The mission of Curtis Memorial Library is to enhance thequality of life in our towns. We do this by advancingknowledge, fostering creativity, encouraging the exchange of ideas and by building community.

That last point is particularly important – fostering a senseof community as a way of genuinely improving lives.Being connected to each other is something we all valuebut it is becoming harder and harder to do in today’sworld. Curtis Memorial Library is still able to open that world of possibility to each of us.

This annual report is our way of recognizing and thanking those many, many individuals, businesses andinstitutions that contribute the financial support to enable our efforts to build community. Curtis is able to do so much because we are supported by so many.

This year we decided to share some of the many types of community that make this library such aspecial place. The wide diversity of people, ideas and interests represented here truly can’t be found anywhere else in our town. Thank you again to all of youwho make this unique place possible for all of us.

Endowed funds at Curtis Memorial Library are listed on page 11.

These funds have been established by forward thinking library

supporters over many years and reflect the deep conviction by

community members that Curtis is a vital resource that needs to

be supported over the long term.

The library benefits tremendously from having an endowment.

It means that there is a regular source of funds to supplement

library operations, the maintenance of the building and grounds

and the library’s Annual Book Fund. Curtis Memorial Library is

grateful to all our endowment donors, those who established the

funds and those who continue to contribute to the principal from

year to year.

The principal for the funds is invested in a portfolio professionally

managed by UBS. A portion of the earnings is drawn each year for

use by the library.

Anyone interested in establishing a new endowment fund is

encouraged to contact Liz Doucett, Library Director.

Donations to existing funds are welcome any time.

Phyllis Fuchs reads to children in 1970 and again in 2011; her lifelong literary journey continues. The Phyllis

Rocke Fuchs Children’s Book Fund was established when she retired as Children’s Librarian in 1999.

CURTISFRIENDS

Curtis Friends has had a busy year as we continue to support allthat the library does. This year our support took the form of booksales, donations for needed items and staff professional development, painting both the teen area and the Money Worksroom, and cleaning up the grounds in fall and spring among manyother things. All that we do is made possible through membershipdues, donations, and revenues from our book sales. We continuedto have record-breaking results for the Children’s book sale as wellas the annual book sale. Each had an increase in the number ofbooks donated as well as the number sold. These vibrant community events were enjoyed by all ages.

Our new membership structure with the emphasis on renewingmemberships has been very successful. Membership numbers anddues are both up from last year, and we continue to look for newways to reach into the community to find new members and letthem know about all that Curtis has to offer.

As we look to the future, we will continue to provide the supportneeded to make Curtis Memorial Library the outstanding community institution it is. Your contributions and continuedmembership to Curtis Friends are vital to help us make this happen. Thank you to all those listed in this Annual Report fortheir support of Curtis Memorial Library.
