He accused the Eurovision organisers of construct- ing the event in such a way as to ensure that the UK entrant stands little chance of winning. The 79-year-old singer was a guest on a chat show, just a few days after the annual continen- tal singing competition which saw the UK put in yet another poor showing, with duo, Electro Velvet, finishing with just five points and fourth from bottom.. Humperdinck himself represented the UK in the competition, in 2012, when it was hosted in Azerbaijan, and finished second from last with a total of just twelve points. When asked about his experience, he said “It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair, and it's all to do with politics. Look what hap- pened this time.” The crooner believes that, because he per- formed first out of the 25 entrants that year, he was effectively forgotten by the time that voting commenced a few hours later and that affected his chances of winning. He reckons that the competition may be regularly set up in this fash- ion so that Britain is one of the first performers. The last time the UK won the competition was in 1997, when Katrina & The Waves performed ‘Love Shine A Light,’ though many pointed out at the time that the group’s singer, Katrina Leskanich, was American-born. Eurovision is regularly criticised for its voting patterns, with countries of geographical proximi- ty, or those that share cultural and historical ties, frequently voting for each other, regardless of the quality of the actual song. Humperdinck is most famous for his 1967 hit, ‘Release Me,’ which, notoriously, kept The Beatles’ double A-sided single, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane,’ from the Number 1 spot. He also had another million-selling single that year with ‘The Last Waltz.’ Sweden’s Mans Zelmerlow won this year’s contest with 365 points. C orrine & Co. have been signed on to play every Thursday night, at the Long Bar, Water’s Edge, commencing this Thursday, June 4th (2015). He told The Island’s “Star Track” that what he has planned to implement, in the form of a musical concert, for his Sri Lankan followers, will be totally different, and novel, in many ways. “We spent a lot of what- ever free time we had, on our recent overseas tour, dis- cussing and planning out how we should present our 25 years celebration concert for our local fans.” Rajiv went on to say that what they discussed, and planned out, will be put into action, on Sunday, July 26th (2015). The Nelum Pokuna audito- rium, in Colombo 7, will be the venue for this block- buster happening. The concert will feature several well-known local artistes, and names men- tioned include Desmond de Silva, Sunil Perera, Corrine, A.E. Manoharan, Annesley Malawana, Mariazelle, Indrani Perera, and many more. According to Rajiv, he is keen to revive the music that was big during the 25 years Rajiv & The Clan were in exis- tence. The legendary, Desmond, he said, will include, in his repertoire, many of the English songs that he was known for, decades ago. Yes, it’s certainly going to be a starry-starry night for music lovers. T hey say it’s going to be one of the biggest concerts ever – Rajiv & The Clan, in action. And the musical extravaganza is in connection with the guys celebrat- ing 25 years in the music scene. Engelbert Humperdinck believes that the

Eurovision Song Contest is “unfair” and

biased against the United Kingdom. He
