DESCRIPTION
Community Design + Architecture & Design Combine responded to an Expression of Interest advertised by the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society for the design of a transit center in the City of Kochi, Kerala that would help integrate regional travel via buses and ferries with the city’s existing local bus transit, as well as the planned metro rail. The Team’s concept was to approach the project as a urban center place-type for the City where the transit center would act as a Transit-oriented Development (TOD) for employment and entertainment activity by enhancing public space such as plazas and a waterfront promenade. This approach would have provided an new alternative public space to the Marine Drive promenade close to the city center on the coast.TRANSCRIPT

CONTEXT
Community Design + Architecture & Design Combine responded to an Expression of Interest advertized by the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society for the design of a transit center in the City of Kochi, Kerala that would help integrate regional travel via buses and ferries with the city’s existing local bus transit, as well as the planned metro rail.
The Team’s concept was to approach the project as a urban center place-type for the City where, the mobility hub would be a Transit-oriented Development (TOD) for employment, retail and entertainment activity with enhanced public spaces such as plazas and a waterfront promenade. This approach would have provided an new alternative public space to the Marine Drive promenade close to the city center on the coast.
The following slides outline the team’s idea for transforming a transit center to a town center, providing a unique and new public amenity for residents to experience.
