Long-term Goal

Design a cabover sleeper and build a functional model of an addition to a 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagon that is easily mounted / removed without modifications to the car.

Points of contact are rooftop rails and trailer hitch.

Customer Wishes

Provide sleeping quarters for two

Insulated / vented space

Water proof / storm resistant

5 minute set up / break down

Enclosed cooking facility (Propane cooker)

Fulfilling Customer Needs

Maintain high mpg rating on vehicle, currently 42+ mpg when cruising. Aerodynamics most inportant factor.

Weight limit 300 lbs

Road worthy; withstand 100 mph head wind.

Water tight; withstand driving rain when moving, withstand pouring rain when set up.

Cost Analysis

Design and prototype funded up to $1000.-

Conduct manufacturing feasibility study and cost for 1k production run.

Identify prospective manufacturers, tooling providers, material sources.

Scale model of vehicle and sleeper attachment for wind tunel verification
