autumn 2011
After an inspection this autumn
by OFSTED, the people in charge
of inspecting schools in Britain,
our school has been recognised as
outstanding. To celebrate this great
achievement, we’ve been working
hard to make our magazine bigger,
better and more exciting to read
than ever! We have poems, reports,
drawings, film reviews, and best
of all, a load of new editors who
have joined our team. VP ZINE has
gotten bigger and we also have a
new associate editor, Mrs. Akhtar.
This is going to be our second
magazine ever and our best. We
hope you can join us and send
us your stories, jokes and pic-
tures to publish in VP ZINE.
Being a VP ZINE editor is outstand-
ing, and really fun! First of all I
felt extremely nervous but when I
found out it was so much fun I put
on my thinking hat and became a
little cheeky. It’s really, really great
and if you were a VP ZINE Editor
you might feel the same way too.
outstanding!
2
All pupils say that they feel safe and that there is always an adult they can
turn to for help. They are proud of the school’s healthy lifestyle awards
and enjoy the school dinners and wide variety of sporting activities
The diversity of the school popula-
tion is celebrated and, as a result,
the school is an extremely cohe-
sive and harmonious community.
The stimulating, mo-
tivating and highly
relevant curriculum
results in pupils’
evident love
of learning.
“The pupils of Victoria Park...
bubble over with enthusiasm
when talking about the things
they learn, the experiences
they are offered and the out-
standing care they receive.”
All pupils are known and
cared for as individuals.
Pupils make an outstanding
contribution to their school
and local community.
What the inspectors said...

On Tuesday 1st November a Year Six
class from VPPS were lucky enough
to visit the Black Country Living
Museum. The children arrived at
school at 8:50 AM. We were fi lled
with excitement! Mr. Wynne, our
wonderful, funny class teacher put
us into groups, we had a maximum
of 5-8 per group due to the fact
we had quite a lot of children.
We travelled by coach and it took
40 minutes however it seemed like
25 minutes. It was really big, I was
surprised. Mr. Wynne had to go and
pay so that we could participate
in the trip. After a while we all got
out of the coach with our groups.
When we arrived there at the
Black Country living museum, our
tour guide called Roger came
to meet us. We lucky enough to
have a guide who actually grew
up there. First he took us to the
Victorian houses and showed
5
us the differences between our
modern life and the Victorian life.
Our guide told us why the Black
Country museum was called the
Black Country museum. The man
had told us it was called the Black
Country because there was a lot
of black fog surrounding the sky.
He then took us to a cottage who
we met an old lady. She then told
us how the mothers would clean
the clothes and how they dried
them. “In the Victorian days we
did not have a washing machine,”
she said, “we had to use things
mainly made out of wood.”
The first cottage we went in was
quite poor therefore it was crooked
and bent. We then went in a rich
cottage which was nice and very
posh. The posh one had wallpa-
per and the poor one did not.
A lady was there who showed us
how clothes were cleaned during
the Victorian period. There was
lots of factual information that the
6
lady told us. She showed us the
different parts of a Victorian house.
During our journey, we went to a
place where our guide let us have
lunch. Mr Wynne ran to the chip
shop to get two bags of chips
for him and Mrs Clarke however
the children didn’t get any!
Next we went to a historical
Victorian school where we ex-
perienced what life was like as a
Victorian schoolchild. Mr. Wynne
was caught talking and conse-
quently the teacher whipped him
to show us what it was like!
A man called Tony took us into
the mine. First of all everybody
put on green hard hats and we all
had a torch to share in our small
group. The mine was very dark
and consequently it was very
scary. in the darkness there were
models of people, which spoke
every time we got near each one.
we had to
use things
mainly made
out of wood
7
While walking we saw a model
of a Victorian miner called Bill.
We heard voice clips, recordings
from diff erent Victorians explan-
ing their jobs in the mine. The
ceiling in the mine was vely low,
however we had safety helmets
so that we would not hurt our
heads. We then turned off our
torches and experienced complete
darkness... I was fl abbergasted.
At the end when we left the
mine we went to the gift shop.
Mr. Wynne chose me to go fi rst.
When we all went in the shop we
looked around and it was very
hard to choose something to buy.
I bought sweets and a beauti-
ful bracelet for my mother.
We all had a good day at Black
Country museum, the best thing
about our trip was when we went to
the Victorian school. I recommend
this place to anyone who needs to
know anything about the Victorians.8
I absolutely LOVE this movie/
book because in it, it contains
moments of love, hate, grief and
joy. It knows how to grab emo-
tions and it is marvellous!
The plot contains heart-breaking
devotion from William to Mister
Tom and scenes of friction between
William and his mother. You can
see how much he is determined
to prove that he is responsible
for Trudy, his baby sister, when
he takes the blame for her death
and refuses to give her to the
warden when he is rescued.
In addition to this, you can see
that he is a shy and very quiet boy,
without the movie/book telling you,
so that means that there is fantastic
‘SNOT’ (Show Not Tell) in this
storyline. If I had to pick a book/
movie to watch/read over a million
times, it most certainly, without a
doubt, be Goodnight Mister Tom.

On 14 November 2011 5 children of
Victoria park primary school were
chosen to gather information about
how to make our school better.
The children went in to the teach-
er’s meeting room and decided
to type up their ideas in a table.
They started by looking at the
last year’s ideas to get a basic
idea of what it is like. The children
had diff erent roles, the roles of
diff erent teachers. (Jamie and
Junayd as Mr. Wynne, Jastej and

Abbie as Mrs. Dhesi, Hasiba as
Mrs. Fowler and Abdimalik as Mr.
Morrish) Then we all chose what
part of the school we want to make
better so then we went away and
all tried our best to think about
how to improve the school.
Then the day arrived...
We walked in to the room with
fear striking our hearts. As we sat
down the teachers looked at us
with a great big grin on their faces.
We started on our fi rst paragraph
which was all about healthy eat-
ing which was lead by Junayd.
As time was passing the teach-
ers said that they were going to
add our ideas to their plan. Mr.
Wynne said that it was tradition
to have a toast on such great
work therefore we fi lled up our
cups with juice and drank them.
It was a great experience being a
teacher and I want to do it again.
Uh oh!

A hive of activity during breaks
and lunchtimes at Victoria
Park Primary School, the hut
can be the best place to spend
time in the playground
VP ZINE reporters ventured out
to the hut one lunchtime and
interviewed the pupils they found
there. They told us what they liked
about the hut, and shared their
thoughts on how the playground
could be made even better.
What WoUld yoU liKe
to add to the hUt?
There should be more seats,
maybe more room to sit down.
WoUld yoU liKe to
redecorate the hUt?
Maybe, make it more lively.
What WoUld yoU liKe
to call the hUt?
I don’t really know. Keep it as
“The Hut” but maybe make it
more green, more creative.
WELCoME to tHE Hut
12
What Kind oF eQUipMent
WoUld yoU liKe For
the hUt?
We could have more footballs,
maybe hard ones because
we don’t get many footballs
for school even when they
get kicked over the fence.
so yoU’re sayinG yoU Want
a FootBall traininG area?
Yeah maybe, or maybe we could
go on the school fi eld to play
so there’s not so many kids
and the ball won’t hit them.
so yoU Want to MoVe the
hUt to the Field and pUt
FootBalls in there?
No, but we should go out on the
fi eld to play because it would give
the children more area to play,
and for us to play football and
the children won’t get injured.
What WoUld yoU do iF it
Was yoUr hUt?
I’d make it a relaxing area, maybe
put some plastic windows around
so you don’t get a lot of wind
inside. People might want to sit
down inside because they’re cold.
13
In the second part of their inves-
tigation, daring VP ZINE report-
ers Junayd and Faith venture
into mysterious and forbidden
territory of the Victoria Park
Primary School staff room.
It was 1pm exactly when daring VP
ZINE journalishs Junayd and Hafsa
were taking photos of the mischie-
vous teachers planning their cun-
ning plans for the next half term.
Mr English was outside the staff
room helping us get a close picture
of the teachers. He went inside
and distracted the teachers so we
could get a close-up picture of

the evidence. Mrs. Try was having
her lunch when detective Hafsa
came in and said to Mr. Atkinson
“Can I take a photo please?” Mrs.
Try said, “ don’t you dare take a
photo of me!” but Hafsa quickly
snapped a photo and fl ed!
The sky was bright and the sun was
fading as the teachers’ short lunch
break was passing by rapidly. We
overheard conversations giving
us a glimpse into how the teach-
ers lives are at home, and much
more. The teachers were aware of
me and Hafsa fl owing about the
room taking photos but at that time
they were too busy to stop us!

School, school, is good for you,
It educates me and it will for you,
Don’t be frightened of the children,
They might be noisy but soon you’ll
see,
they’ll help you be as good as can be.
If you see the wonderful teachers,
Especially the ones with
smiling faces, they’ll help you
learn, at least until dinnertime...
LOOK OVER THERE!
Yummy, scrumptious snacks and cakes!
Children run to fi ll their faces,
Crumbs everywhere, it’s such a mess!
School, school, is good for you,
Especially this one, V.P.P.S.

Eight colourful planets fl oating.
Seven sparkly moons glowing around.
Six blasting rockets, zooming across Saturn.

This poem is by Christina
Rossetti, who was a poet during
the Victorian era. She was part
of a group of poets called “The
Romantics” who liked to write
about nature and emotions.
To get started writing your own
poem, think about something
that’s very important to you. On
a piece of paper, write down the
words and feelings which pop into
your head. Jumble those words
around and add more words to
connect them into lines. Your poem
does not have to rhyme, it can be
happy or sad, serious or silly.

When the teacher told us we
were going to the sevren valley
railway, I felt excited. The Severn
valley railway experience was
rather fabulous. It was very brave
of them that they were willing to
take the whole school on the trip.
When I got out of bed I was a bit
jumpy. I calmed down and got
dressed for school in my uniform.
When I got out of the house I felt
curious to get to the Severn Valley
Railway. I skipped onto the coach
with excitement as I was led to my
seat. I was with my partner and
the rest of my class. When I got to
school, my heart started to race. I
was so anxious to get on that train.
I wanted to know what it felt like
to be on a steam train. We waited
for the coach to come as we stared
through the window. Soon we left
out and a boarded the coach.

they’d never
had a whole

on one train
before!
At 8:45 in the morning the bell
rang. We were all so excited about
the trip. We came into the class-
room. After the register our class
went out and sat on the coach. On
the amazing journey we saw trees,
trees more than a sheep! Then a
Horse! Then a Cow! Some people
were acting like they had never
21
seen animals before. Everyone was
shouting then I asked them “Have
you ever seen an animal before?”
We saw countless farms. We finally
reached our destination. We got all
our photos taken by a photogra-
pher and got onto our own steam
train. I was more excited than ever.
The train was absolutely massive!
In the entire history of the Severy
Valley Railway, they’d never had
a whole school fit on one train
before! It felt frightening for the
whole school to fit on one train,
because the train might have
been too flimsy to carry 400
people or more. But luckily the
train itself weighed over 2 tons!
We went under a tunnel- it was
so dark. I got so scared. To
pass the time, we kept playing
games. Someone said that they
saw a ghost but I told them that
ghosts are not real. Or are they?
the train was
absolutely
massive!
22
Reluctantly, we got off of the train
and went to the engine house.
In the engine house there were
lots of amazing and interesting
facts, like what a pump cart is and
other things. The engine house
was full of trains; Trains that were
in the World Wars, trains that
royal people have travelled in. They
showed us how the trains looked
during World War 1 and how they
look now. I was simply amazed...
When we had our lunch we
went into the play area and had
a look at the trains and then
got on the coach to go back
to school. When we got to the
coach it started to rain and Mr.
Atkinson got drenched so we all
went to school and watched a
DVD and after that exhausting
day we all went home to rest.

An exhilarating movie which
I have recently watched is-
called “Aliens in the Attic.”
I really enjoyed this fi lm due to
the fact it was humorous and
interesting. It was really exciting
because when the hideous aliens
attack the family (The Pearson’s),
I really wanted to know if they
would take over there house or
not. The repulsive aliens were
really diminutive and petrify-
ing. At the start I thought that
they were pleasant, nevertheless
they were really malicious! The
fi lm made me really sit on the
edge of my seat since I wanted to
know what would happen next.
I think this fi lm is suitable for all
ages, however maybe not for

might get terrifi ed by the re-
volting aliens.The characters in
this fi lm are really amusing.
The actors have been really well
chosen and they did a really
good job. My favourite actor
was Ashley Tisdale (Bethany)
due to the fact that her parts
were really entertaining.
I asked Maariya for her thoughts on
the fi lm’s characters. “I like Nana
because she is very old, conse-
quently she is very funny,” she
said, “It was funny when she was
fi ghting with Ricky.” She continued,
“I do not like Ricky because he is
really mean to Tom especially, but
then at the end he gets controlled
by the Aliens and the twins.”
seriousness
and Comedy
miXed into one
25
My favourite part of the movie
was when Tom’s Nan (Nana
Pearson) has a battle with Ricky
when she gets controlled by the
aliens. It is really hilarious!
I really enjoyed this fi lm and
would love to watch it again. I
really like this movie because it
is not dull or boring. It contains
a lot of thrilling parts. The story
is adventurous and exciting, it
has diff erent characters with very
inconsistent personalities. It has
an interesting start and ending,
it can be watched over and over
again without getting inattentive.
The one thing I disliked about this
fi lm is that it doesn’t always talk
about the gruesome aliens and
the aliens don’t get involved much
other than the end, only the main
characters trying to defeat them,
but at the end it does involve the
Aliens. Additionally, the movie
26
takes too long to actually talk
about the aliens. I also thought
the fi lm was a bit slow, it needs
to catch up and be quick and get
to the exciting part, I understand
the tension but it’s too long and it
needs to be much more quicker.
Overall, I think this movie is
amusing, fascinating and amaz-
ing. I hope that more movies
come out similar to this one.

I will do anything for your hand in marriage. Your face is more beautiful than

Dear Henry,
I have read your letter and was persuaded to marry you,
only if you agree to follow all my rules. I want the following
done for me: my own personal servant, personal chef, and
you have to promise not to chop my head off . I want half
your wages, I want you to keep calm, you have to trust
me and you must get more activities in your agenda.
I like the way you say “all your dreams will come true”, so
when you marry me promise to take care of me and fulfi ll my
dreams. My ring must be a massive ruby. Although you are a
little obese, I will accept your off er to be queen.

On 26th September children
entering the playground were met
with a great shock. They all said,
“what’s going on?” Someone,
or something trashed the VPPS
playground! We went in our class
and it was trashed. We sorted out
our tables and went to assembly.
After that we investigated. We saw
alien goo, broken computers, a TV
with a remote control and a car
seat. I thought to myself, are there
reall aliens in our school? In assem-
bly Head Teacher Mr. Morrish said it
might have been a sattelite that had
crashed. We were worried because
slooby yucky blue aliens might be

i am writing to you with

I think I am perfect for the job, due
to the fact, I have been specially
trained. I think the best skill to have
for the job is being courageous. I
am extremely fearless because in
the dark, I can go outside to get
the washing, therefore I won’t be
frightened in space as it is dark.
In addition to that, I am very
reliable and polite; consequently,
I am the teacher’s personal
assistant. Would you want an
unreliable person for the job?
Obviously not. Furthermore, I
have been rewarded the politest
and cleverest child in the school.
An intelligent person would be
great for the job, as you would
need to be able to know the
directions to the alien planets.
Additionally, if a satellite is about
to crash on Earth, you would
need to work out how fast it is
travelling in order to stop it.
I can also speak one hundred dif-
ferent languages; therefore, if I
meet an alien, I would be able to
communicate with him/her. Surely,
you would like someone who can
speak to the aliens, and fi nd out
if they are pleasant or malicious.
Obviously, someone as intelligent
and sensible as you would surely
choose the right person. I have
heard that you are really bright
and you are the best manager, so
I would love to work under your
orders. I look forward to your
reply. I appreciate you for tak-

Be When yoU GroW Up?
I wanted to be a teacher and
work with children. That’s
what I’m doing now.
What’s yoUr FaVoUrite
chocolate or sWeets?
I don’t like sweets, but I do like
Galaxy Hazelnut. I also like Fanta.
Were yoU eVer
BUllied in school?
No, not that I remember.
What Was yoUr
FaVoUrite school?
I liked Shireland Collegiate Acad-
emy. We had trips that we’d go
on for a few days, like camping.
I had more options in my sub-
jects and there was more vari-
ety in the languages on off er.
For example I could have picked
Chinese, Japanese, German. It was
good, I enjoyed my high school. I
learned Urdu. As a Muslim myself, I
had problems understanding Urdu
as I was brought up speaking Eng-
lish with my brothers and sisters.
So I learned the proper Arabic way,
Urdu and everything in high school.
