Voyage of the Vikings, Report #5a Addendum, Prince Christian Sound, Greenland Following a perfect day in Qaqortoq we head to the southernmost fjords of Greenland, cutting through the island’s extreme south tip, Prince Christian Sound. Apparently a consensus of travel expertsdeems transits of the sound, “one of the most beautiful cruise experiences on Earth”. Indeed, as we enter the sound our ship’s Travel Guide, Barbara, in her 17 years of transiting, says this is “the best ever weather”. The temperature is balmy, the skies cloudless, air clear, and most of all, no wind at all. The water is glassy smooth. That flat surface produces ethereal reflections of the extremely precipitous terrain of granite. Reflections of sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and glaciers originating from Greenland’s ice cap above, seem to plunge deep into the water. Thrilled, in a continuous state of awe, our transit takes the full day. In addition to fantastic scenery, we spot a number of seals, and two whales breaching. We make the inevitable comparisons to our previous experience of fjords in New Zealand, Chile, Norway, and most-recently, Newfoundland. Prince

Christian. Sound compares favorably. (Below, bottom of page, can you see this glacier

originating from Greenland’s expansive ice cap shown on the map?)

Our first visit to Greenland could not be more perfect!!! We’ll be back again in a couple weeks. As we write this, we are mid-way between Greenland and Iceland. Contrary to our expectations of rough seas here in the North Atlantic, the water is smooth. So far we are having a terrific ocean crossing, hoping for good weather tomorrow for our 2 days of pre-planned adventures in Reykjavik. Having a fantastic cruise, ‘till next we have the pleasure of seeing you, love to all, Bob and Kerrell, http://lincolnshome.wordpress.com/
