Voter Registration

To register or re-register: Visit www.registertovote.ca.gov to register online. Pick up a Voter Registration Application at one of many

locations throughout the county. To view a map of these locations, visit www.SBCountyElections.com.

Contact (909) 387-8300 or send an email to voterregistrations@sbcountyelections.com to have a Voter Registration Application mailed to you.

Voter Registration Applications must be submitted online, hand-delivered to the Elections Office, or postmarked on or before Monday, May 23, 2016 to be valid for this election.

2016 Presidential Primary Election Information

The 2016 Presidential Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 7. Voters will have the option of voting by mail, at an early voting location or at their assigned polling place on Election Day. The following pages provide helpful information about this election and about how primaries are conducted in California.

How Primaries are Conducted in California In June of 2010, California voters approved Proposition 14 (The Top Two Open Primary Act). The new amendment made many changes to how primaries are conducted in California.

Previously there were only two types of offices, partisan and nonpartisan. Now, there are three types: party-nominated, voter-nominated and nonpartisan.

The table below explains the different types of offices that will appear on the ballot, who can vote in these races, and who advances to the November General Election.

* For this election, the American Independent, Democratic and Libertarian Parties are allowing voters who have not chosen a party preference to vote in their presidential primaries.

Voting in a California Primary

Ballots

Party Ballot – Voters who have chosen a party preference will receive a Party Ballot. It will include contests for:

Nonpartisan Ballot – Voters who have not chosen a party preference will receive a Nonpartisan Ballot. It will not include a presidential contest. It will only include contests for:

Presidential Candidates

You must belong to a party to vote in that party's presidential primary.

If you want to choose or change your party preference, you must re-register to vote with that party by May 23.

For this election, the following political parties have agreed to allow voters who have not chosen a party preference to vote their party's ballot:

There are 34 candidates for United States Senator listed in two columns on the official ballot. You can only vote for one candidate.

The Combined Sample Ballot on the following pages has been customized for your voting precinct. It contains party-nominated offices for all parties. The Official Ballot that you will receive at the polling place, or by mail, will only have the party-nominated offices for your political party.

Cómo se Desarrollan las Elecciones Primarias en California

En junio de 2010, los votantes de California aprobaron la Propuesta 14 (Ley de Elecciones Primarias Abiertas de los Dos Candidatos con Más Votos). La nueva enmienda hizo muchos cambios al proceso de las elecciones primarias en California. Antes había solamente dos tipos de cargos, partidarios y no partidarios. Ahora, hay tres tipos: nominado por un partido, nominado por los votantes y no partidario. Como residente de cuarta generación del Condado de San Bernardino, comprendo la lucha de las familias de clasemedia en toda nuestra comunidad.
