A vote for me is a vote for cheaper, cleaner energy. Technology has changed and as technology changes, things get cheaper and better. Right now, wind energy is about one-third the cost of coal-generated energy and solar is 40% cheaper. The current IREA Board majority made a big mistake in 2005 by contracting for and investing in coal-generated power long term. That can and must change. We can discard old ideas and old technology. Customer savings need to happen.A vote for Michael Hays is a vote for:

I have an undergraduate degree from UCLA and a Master of Science Degree in Business Information Systems from San Francisco State University. I have 20 years’ experience working with large information systems in the telecommunications industry. A significant portion of that work has dealt with delivering technology to rural areas. IREA serves a vast area of Colorado with much of its territory rural. With the advent of “smart meters” over the next two years, much can be done to help members save money with this new technology. I have the experience to advise IREA management. Money can be saved.

During my 18 years as a resident in Castle Rock, I have participated in many efforts to improve our community, including developing qualifications for the newly elected mayor and the continued pursuit of mass public transportation. IREA is a co-op; it is owned by all of us and the Board needs to constantly learn the needs of its members and respond. I will be available and open to everyone. I will advocate for open board meetings, not just for members to make statements but also for board members to give answers. Transparency is critical.

As a husband, father and member of the Colorado community I want what is best for all of us into the future. Cheaper, cleaner energy will improve all our lives.

I want to be your IREA Board Representative because I know we can cut our electric bills. Our co-op should be

good stewards of our members’ money and good stewards of our environment. We can do both today.
