In 2009 a group of animal advocates and carers came together to form a party to give a voice to animal concerns in parliament. We are now one of the fastest growing political parties in Australia. With three elected representatives - one in Victoria and two in NSW - the major parties can no longer ignore us. Our vote is growing and our collective voice is getting stronger – and we are saying loud and clear that animals’ lives matter.
The AJP wants to stop the terrible things that are happening to animals right now- the vile live export trade, lawful but cruel treatment of animals in agriculture, especially in factory farms, shadeless paddocks, the loss of habitat from land clearing and native forest logging and the mindless killing of our native animals.
We recognise that the exploitation of animals cannot be separated from concerns about the health of our natural world and the impact that environmental damage also has on human beings. Every time we see a dust storm blow over the land, see dying trees or scorched landscapes, we know that urgent environmental action is critical for our survival.
Our vision and plan for a kinder world for all - animals, the environment and people.
Upon election to the senate, our very first act will be to introduce legislation for a ban on live export. Climate change is a problem of massive scale that is already affecting people and animals. We will take immediate action to reduce emissions by rapidly phasing out fossil fuels, transitioning to clean energy, reducing deforestation and transitioning to sustainable plant-based agriculture.
The Animal Justice Party is part of a growing global political movement that believes that the best way to make positive change for animals and the environment is through the political system.

I’m Angela Pollard, the lead Senate candidate for the Animal Justice Party. I have campaigned against live export, puppy farms, animal circuses, rodeos, horse racing and run legal information sessions on the lawful but cruel practices in animal industries. The Indonesian live cattle export scandal and the failure of the Gillard Labor government to introduce a permanent ban on live export made me decide that politics was where change was most needed.
