All levels of instruction are available in ballet, jazz, tap and pointe. Lyrical and modern are available to intermediate and advanced dancers. The performing arts facility houses three fully-equipped studios and a theater for performances, which provide an ideal environment for learning and sharing the art of dance. Over the years VAB has nurtured thousands of young dancers including those who have enjoyed dance for its inherent value as an art and discipline and others who have chosen dance as a professional career. Whether or not a student is planning to pursue a career in dance, he or she will receive optimal instruction. Highly experienced faculty members are dedicated to provide appropriate instruction and motivation while maintaining sensitivity to individual abilities and needs. Students thrive through positive experiences that instill poise, confidence, and respect, and they enjoy life-long benefits as a result of the physical and mental conditioning that dance education provides. Here are just a few of the advantages of a dance education:

x Healthy Lifestyle: Dance improves posture, balance and overall physical fitness.

x Intellectual and Emotional Strength: Dance engages the intellectual, emotional, and creative mind. Learning new dance steps requires memorization, attention to detail, and following instruction. It builds confidence, determination, and practice facing challenges. Dance provides a creative medium of creative and artistic exploration and expression.

x Discipline and Character: Traditional dance education maintains a rich heritage of respect, modesty,

x Friendship and Cooperation: As part of the corps de ballet, dancers take cues from one another and must work as a team under their teacher’sdirection.Theyformvaluablefriendshipsoutsideoftheirschool environment.

x Love and Appreciation of the Arts: Dancers develop a love of beauty through an appreciation of the human form in motion and some of the greatest music ever written. Ballet promotes an understanding of three different performing arts: dance, theater, and music.

x Communication Skills: Students learn to use dance as a form of communication, a skill that is especially valuable during the adolescent years.

Young dancers arrive one half hour prior to performances. Advanced and Intermediate Advanced dancers arrive one and one half hours before each performance. Dancers must be signed in and out of ALL performances. This is for their safety. Dancers must be picked up immediately at the conclusion of each performance. If there are two performances on the same day, dancers must be picked up after the first show and returned for the next show. There will not be supervision between shows. No dancers will be released while the show is in progress. This policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all dancers. The only exception is at Nutcracker. Young dancers who perform only in the first act, may be signed out at intermission. VAB/VYB Code of Conduct:
