Our Mission• To Improve the Quality of Living

• Words from Mark Murray, President & CEO of CHC, regarding the end of life journey for his mother: “After her symptoms were managed, she was even going on short bus trips with the other facility residents and participating in cooking, crafts and multiple other activities. For the rest of her life, she never once went back to the hospital and enthusiastically enjoyed every moment of living.”

Why do I volunteer?• To Improve Community Life

Why do I volunteer?• To Give Back

• Many volunteers have had a loved one receive hospice care. They want to give back and say “Thanks.”

• Words from Pauline Pierson, volunteer with CHC: “I can relate to patients and families, because I’ve been there.”

• To Help Others In Need• William Penn said, “I expect to pass through life but

once. If, therefore, there can be any kindness I can show, or any good things I can do to any fellow human being, let me do it now, and not defer it or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”

Why do I volunteer? To Connect to Others

Know your friends better Get to know new people

To Give Hope Dale Kern, volunteer with CHC, did companion care for Stephen

Bock, a patient who was diagnosed with heart disease. Add to that, years of alcohol and cocaine abuse. Even a suicide attempt. After CHC’s team got involved, he changed from a surly, egocentric man filled with anger, to a man at peace in his soul, with compassion for others, and an enthusiasm and appreciation for life he had not previously experienced. Dale said, “We were just two guys hanging out and that helped build our relationship.”
