V Volunteers will assist the
classroom teacher in doing the
activities, give lots of language
to the deaf or hearing children,
help them with transitions,
hand washing, snack,
challenging activities in
movement program, playing
outside, and all the other
classroom activities. They
may also help with set up and
clean up for various activities.
If you volunteer primarily for
the movement program you
help with set up of the
equipment, leading the games
or other activities, keeping the
kids safe, and tear down. That
would be only 2-4 hours per
week, depending on how much
time you can give. You can
always help with classroom
after movement. Required to
fill out an application, brief
interview, fingerprinting, and
TB clearance.

11605 Washington
Place Los Angeles,
CA 90066
90066 (310) 337-7115 [email protected] V We do accept volunteers
within Therapy West’s Infant
Specialized Play Program
(TWISPP), which is a center-
based early intervention group
program developed for typical
developing children, children
who are risk for developmental
delays, and children with
identified disorders (i.e. Down
syndrome, cerebral palsy,
autism). Responsibilities of a
volunteer include: working
with the children and assisting
them towards their goals under
the direction of therapists and
teachers, cleaning classroom
toys/supplies, preparing
materials for classroom
activities, assisting with hand
washing, cleaning up during
and after the program, and
maintaining storage of supplies
in the classroom and gym.
In order to volunteer, we do
require an in-person interview,
current TB test, a completed
paperwork packet (including
HIPAA and child abuse
training) and Live scan
fingerprinting (to be completed
after they have our
paperwork). The group setting
is very dynamic so we also
require the volunteers to be
able to safely maneuver, bend
and lift, and be agile enough to
keep up with kids in the class.

O Requirements for
volunteering include a
submission of TB test results
and a volunteer
application. Once the TB test
results are received along
with the application, the
hospital performs a
background check. The
volunteer applicant goes
through an orientation and
then, if cleared, they can start
volunteering. Our volunteers
are usually assigned with a
therapist who they shadow on
the days they are here. They
may be asked to assist with
some activities during
treatment or to assist with
cleaning up after treatments,
but they are primarily
observers.
