News from the Artistic Director’s Chair…

Sunday, Monday Happy Days. I hope you enjoyed this light-

hearted tribute to one of the most popular television shows of the

1970's and 80's. The cast had fun learning about the time period

and performing some of those crazy dances of the era. Imagine

when gas was only $.12 a gallon??

We are busily into rehearsals for Joseph & the Amazing Technicol-

or Dreamcoat and wait until you see the cast! This show promises

to be extremely colorful and full of dancing unlike any other Joseph

you may have seen. Bring your friends and family to this dazzling

show….they won't be disappointed. And don't forget our free Behind

the Curtain! at TMP preview on Sunday, July 1st at 7:00 pm.

If you missed the production of 70, Girls, 70 put on by our senior

group, The Young at Heart Players, you missed a real treat. Audienc-

es laughed and cheered on the cast and all involved did a great

job. Hope to see more of you next year when we present another

senior theater production in early summer. Chris Serface, our Direc-

tor of Education, will be directing the show.

Our Summer Theater Tour to Ashland, OR is fast approaching and

we are thrilled to have so many patrons excited to join us to this new

destination. This tour filled so fast that we just may have to repeat

this trip due to the intense interest! Our fall theater tour currently

being planned is to one of the fastest–growing cultural centers in

the US - San Antonio! See the ad in this newsletter. Don’t forget, sea-

son subscribers have first priority for joining TMP trips and tours so

be sure to renew your TMP subscription or become a subscriber this

summer.

“Development Corner”

With your support and attendance, this year’s La-dies’ Fundraising Auction & Spring Luncheon raised the most money for TMP programs since it began seven years ago. There are so many people to thank for this great achievement. First, the fabulous Ladies Auction Acquisition Committee. Beginning as early as December, they work tirelessly to find fun and unique auction items. Thank you to Judy, Fran, Fudge and Pete, Sandie, Wanda, Cherile and Cindy for all your hard work and dedication to making this event grow. The list of ‘Thank You’s’ continues with our sponsors: Pioneer Place Alzheimer Residence of Ta-coma for champagne, LaQuinta Inn and Suites for the hors d’oeuvres and Financial Network as a table sponsor. Next are the many businesses and individu-als that support this event by donating over $13,000 in items to our silent and live auction. A list will be included in the Joseph show program. Please fre-quent these local businesses and be sure to say thank you from Tacoma Musical Playhouse. And last but certainly not least, to you, our dedicated patrons who attended our fundraising event this year. We hope you had as good a time as we did being there.

We look forward to next year’s event: Wednesday, May 22, 2013. We will return to the LaQuinta again next year. They have lots of room for us to grow! Also, be sure to indicate on your calendar a SAVE THE DATE of February 16, 2013 for Dancing with the Tacoma Stars at the Landmark Temple Theater!

“Entertaining Education” Never a dull moment!

TMP’s Education Dept. is continuing to have a great

year. You may not realize all of the programs that we

offer year-round. Here’s just a brief sampling of the pro-

grams that we offered this season:

After School Academy: Four-week sessions offered

five times a year for students in grades 1-8. Each session

ends in a staged performance which this year included

shows from Shakespeare to Snow White.

Winter & Spring Break Camp: Intense camps that take

place during the school holidays, these camps are filled

with students in grades 1-12. Students learn a full-fledged

musical production and perform it for the community in

just 5-8 days.

ACT@TMP: Our Saturday morning classes offer edu-

cational opportunities to students between the ages of 4-

18 in a variety of classes including; Acting, Voice,

Dance, Improvisation and Stage Combat.

Your School’s A Stage: TMP educators rehearse with

students for four weeks at their school and stage a full

production complete with sets, costumes, props and

lights. This year we travelled as far away as Eatonville

and JBLM to keep the arts alive in those communities.

Young at Heart Players: The Education programs at

TMP aren’t just for our youth. This spring, 15 actors aged

50-?? took to the stage and presented a full-staged pro-

duction of Kander & Ebb’s musical 70, Girls, 70.
