Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Staff, Proposed School Fees for 2021 School Council has set the school fee rate for 2021 at $100 per student in B and C building and $160 per student in D building. Please note that this is the same amount that parents have been requested to pay for the last few years. Attached to the newsletter parents will find the Parent Payment Policy of the school. It is a wordy document, but it is based on the Department template and we have very little say in what is included in it. What we do control is the level of fees that we are asking for from our families. Parents will notice that the actual cost of all of the requisites that students use is well over the cost that we are asking parents to pay. School Council has made the decision to keep fees as low as possible to ensure all students have access to all of the materi-als, excursions and communication tools that they need. The majority of the fee that we ask parents to pay goes to the weekly outings that all students participate in and this money helps us with the upkeep and running costs of our buses. School Council will also be accepting voluntary contributions in 2021. These are tax deductable payments that will be put towards capital improvements within the school. Parents are not required to make a voluntary contribution, but if you do so you do know where this money is going to. Parents are not required to pay their school fees for 2021 until next year; however, early payments are being accepted at the office. If you have any queries regarding our fee structure for 2021 please give me a call at the office. COVID-19 Update Parents are reminded to continue to keep social distancing at before and after school pick-ups. Staff and students are continuing to follow hand hygiene practices during the school day and additional cleaning is still in place across the school during the day. All parents are reminded of the need to keep students at home if they are feeling unwell. Schools are still required to send students home if they have cold or flu like symptoms. We are mindful that those students who have hay fever or asthma have similar symptoms to the cold, but will err on the side of caution in most cases and ask that parents come to the school and pick their child up. Thank you to those families who are keeping students at home if they are obviously unwell. End of Year Concert The current COVID restrictions are not going to allow us to have an end of year concert this year. We are still unable to get together as a whole school and even if restrictions are lifted further we will not have enough time to get a show ready by the time the end of the year comes around. Swimming Unfortunately we have been unable to book in swimming sessions this year either. Pools are required to complete a lot of additional cleaning under the current COVID restrictions and there isn’t enough time for classes to get to and from the Maffra pool in time to catch the bus home. We have booked our swimming sessions in for 2021 and all classes will be swimming from term one 2021. Parents Opinion Survey So far we have had 10 of our 66 families complete the annual parent opinion survey. This represents only 15% of our school families and we need more families to complete the survey so we gain a clear picture of what parents actually think. A third link was sent home to all families yesterday and it will be sent out again on Monday as a final reminder. The survey only takes around 20 minutes to complete and is open until Friday 13th of November. Regards Jamie

BOOK WEEK REPORT

Primary Book Week! We all really enjoyed Book week,

we got to dress up and have a parade in our costumes and even got to listen to our favourite books. We dressed up as

characters such as Peter rabbit, Saucepan man, B1 & B2 and we even had

Harry Potter and Hermione.

This term B4 have enjoyed visiting the sensory room to climb, swing

and explore all the exciting things we have set up for them.

We have also been learning about different types of animals

and we were lucky enough to get to hold a snake skin which was shed from one of the staff’s

pet snake!

B5 - Library & Technology

From the classroom...

Throughout this term, the whole school is learning about Australian Animals. In C Block we have already researched Green Tree Frogs, Kangaroos, Wombats, Salt Water Crocodiles, and Echidnas. Here is a sample of our research skills and our creativity.

From the classroom...

We are learning about different cultures and decided to find out what Halloween was all about in America. We discovered Halloween did not originate from America but it dates back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. It is part of an ancient Celtic religion in Britain and other parts of Europe. It is celebrated with dressing up in costumes, making Jack O Lanterns (carved pumpkins) and trick-or-treating. Our class had fun doing different activities as part of Halloween.

We have been learning about how to build really cool models in Technology. Some of us worked together and chose something we both found interesting to build. First we had to find and sort all the parts for the model. That took a while! Then we had to follow each instruction step by step to build the model. Some construction models had moving parts when you pushed it along and some worked with batteries. Constructing models is a great problem solving activity!

As we can’t have visitors at school at

the moment Primary students had an

online video link with Meg from the

Art Gallery. She read Alison Lester’s

book “The Magic Beach” and we had

lots of fun making our own beach with

Meg. Student were very proud of their

work and followed Megs’ directions

with full concentration. Great work

everyone I was very proud of you all.

The C1 gang have had so much fun

making puppet and stop motion

films. We used the favourite story

Wombat Stew to make our films and

then had a movie afternoon with the

primary students. It was wonderful to

see the laughter and excitement.

Lots of fun learning had by all.

Sign of the Week

DO – with both hands in fists, tap bottom of dominant hand across top of other fist, moving dominant hand towards the body whilst keeping the other still.

DIFFERENT– Pointer fingers of both hands rest against each other, pointing away from body, then move apart whilst rotating wrists so hands end facing upwards.

Term 4 – sign of the week will be focusing on the interactive vocabulary and core words. These are the words

we use the most to get our message across for a range of reasons. This includes requesting, commenting,

protesting, questioning, imagining and building relationships.
