Fifth Sunday of Easter : May 10 May 7-17, 2020 Volume 8, Issue 10 © 2020 Calvary Moravian Church Calendar: May 10-17, 2020 This Sunday will be the Fifth Sunday of Easter. We continue our celebration of the glorious news of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! The Easter season continues until the Day of Pentecost which will be celebrated on May 31. We also celebrate Mother’s Day today as well as Moravian Music Sunday, and we express our joy and grati- tude for our wonderful heritage of Moravian music! The Calvary Band Trio will begin our worship with the pre- service prelude (thank you, mem- bers of the Trio!). For the organ prelude, Mary Louise Kapp Peeples will play “Her Children Rise Up and Call Her Blessed,” composed by Winston-Salem mu- sician and composer Margaret Vardell Sandresky (b. 1921). For the opening hymn, we will sing the familiar Moravian hymn, “Christian Hearts, in Love United.” Pastor Lane will lead us as we pray together a liturgy writ- ten for Mother’s Day. The Calvary Band Trio will also pro- vide us with the offertory music this week. Our Scripture lessons will include the epistle of 2nd Peter (2:2-10), and the Gospel lesson will be from the 14th chap- ter of the Book of John (1-14). Mrs. Amanda Schumpert will share the message with the children. Pastor Chaz Snider will bring us the sermon for this Fifth Sunday in the Easter season, “Living Stones.” For the postlude, Mary Louise will play a piece composed by her husband, Wade Peeples: “Fantasy on ‘Sing Halle- lujah, Praise the Lord.’” This triumphant piece was composed for the 250th Anni- versary of Bethania Moravian Church in 2009.
