you’ve been asking or a decisionyou need to make. You will neverstumble or fall while you walkalong the Lord’s path. It’s only ifyou stray off in a different direc-tion that the journey becomesmore difficult. On Page 6, Member Angela K.

from Tennessee recalled howthat journey became a challengefor her after she lost her job. “Suddenly, I found myself

unemployed in my early 50s,with a mortgage payment Icould no longer afford,” Angelawrote. “I watched the savings Ihad worked so hard to accumu-late dwindle until they weregone. I fell behind on my housepayments and pleaded with mybank for help, but they offerednone. They took my house backand gave me a month to findanother place to live.” Then, Angela walked by a

church, went inside, and her lifesoon changed for the better. Shewas offered a job there and anew home. “My life is much dif-ferent now, yet I feel content,”she told us. “God’s love frees mefrom worry!” Likewise, a bad family situa-

tion led A. F. from Canada tocontact Fellowship’s SpecialHelp Department and become aFellowship Friend. On Page 11,she told us that once she beganusing her new prayers, thingsbegan changing for the betterright away!“What a remarkable differ-

ence it made to discover I wasnot alone! I had God and I hadmy Fellowship Friends. Myheart felt like singing!” she

recalled. “No matter how manymistakes people make, no mat-ter how lost and confused youmay be . . . the Lord can help youdo something about it! I know,for He has lifted me from thedepths of despair to this new joyin living. Just turn to Him andHe will turn to you!”Finally, on Page 14, Member

Margaret H. of Washingtonreminds us that God waitspatiently, until we are ready tohear His message. “I’ve been aMember of Fellowship since the1960s. I was so young then, fac-ing many troubles,” Margaretsaid. “But your magazine keptGod in my life until He knew Iwas ready for His message. It iswonderful to know He, andFellowship, are always there forme.” And with that inspiring note,

Dear Friend, we hope you arerefreshed and energized by thisSummertime edition of FAITH!

Trust In The Lord To Provide A “Vacation” From Worry!

The warmth of summertimebrings to mind sunny days, gath-erings with friends and family,and for those who have the timeoff . . . summer vacation! Those are all wonderful sum-

mer activities, Dear Friend, andwe hope you’re able to enjoythem. And now, we want to let you

know about another kind ofvacation, of the spiritual kind.Yes, we’re talking about that spe-cial time in your life when yourealized if you asked the Lord toguide your life’s journey, Hewould always steer you in theright direction. Remember how warm and safe

you felt at that moment, whenyou suddenly knew He wouldkeep you safe and secure? As thetheme of this Faith Magazinesays, you immediately knew youhad a Friend who would hearand answer your prayers! In fact, Jesus tells us about His

friendship in the Bible passageof John 15:15, “Henceforth I callyou not servants; for the servantknoweth not what his Lorddoeth: but I have called youfriends; for all things that I haveheard of My Father I have madeknown unto you.”You might be saying to your-

self, well sure, but how is thislike a vacation? Allow us toexplain. Dear Member, when you

began relying upon God’s infi-

nite wisdom, didn’t you feel as ifa weight had lifted and you hadpacked up your troubles to sendthem away! Yes, just as youmight feel joyful and light-heart-ed as you start a summer vaca-tion, you may recall feeling offreedom when you decided toturn your problems over to God.In other words, you took a

vacation from worry by trustingin the Lord’s guidance. Thatdecision didn’t cost you any-thing and you could always seekthat special bond with Him any-time you wished!So, whenever you need a vaca-

tion from nagging problems thatkeep you awake at night, remem-ber the Lord is here to shareyour burden. He cares aboutyou, Dear Friend. Just call uponHim as you would a good friend,and He will reach out to lift awayyour concerns!

My Fellowship Friends, I’ve always enjoyed reading

those true stories in FAITHabout my Fellow Members whohave weathered bad times. But, Inever thought I’d be writing toyou about my own trials andtribulations! I guess there’s atime for everything, so maybeothers will want to hear whathappened to me and how I gotthrough it. So, here goes . . . I used to work at a small hos-

pital in my home town. It was agood job that paid well, and Iwas able to buy my own modesthome that I fixed up over manyyears. I wasn’t especially reli-gious at that time. Things weregoing well for me and I hadn’tencountered any real bad prob-lems I couldn’t solve. I hadmoney in the bank and a decentsavings account. In short, I waspretty happy and felt like I had“made it.”Then, life threw me a curve.

My small, independent hospitalwas sold to a big corporation.They began cutting costs andoutsourcing hospital services. Itwasn’t long before the layoffsbegan, and the first ones to gowere longtime employees . . .folks like me who had workedthere long enough to earn a goodsalary. Suddenly, I found myselfunemployed in my early 50s,with a mortgage payment Icould no longer afford. I watchedthe savings I had worked so hard

to accumulate dwindle untilthey were gone. I fell behind onmy house payments and pleadedwith my bank for help, but theyoffered none. They took myhouse back and gave me a monthto find another place to live. It was a dark time for me, Dear

Fellowship. I didn’t know whereto turn. Then, one day I went for a

walk to clear my head. My pathwent by a local church I knew of,but had never entered. I saw peo-ple outside its doors . . . peoplewho looked happy and content.So, I walked up to them andasked if I could come in. Well,you would have thought I wastheir good friend! They invitedme to sit in their Bible studyclass. As I listened to the Lord’steachings I suddenly felt Hislove, and realized He had beenwaiting for me to seek Him out! I was offered a job with this

lovely church, and my newfriends also found me a niceplace to live. They introducedme to Fellowship, too, for whichI am grateful. My life is much different now,

yet I feel content. God’s lovefrees me from worry!

Some Members have inquiredabout how they might make abequest to Life-Study Fellowship.Through the years, many

Members have chosen to remem-ber our Fellowship in this spe-cial way and we are truly grate-ful. Some Members have includ-ed Fellowship in their wills,while others have named Life-Study Fellowship in their lifeinsurance policies. If you are interested in making

arrangements through your will,we suggest you talk with anattorney who can explain the taxadvantages and ways to go aboutmaking such a bequest.

Please remember that it is toeverybody’s advantage to have awill. This doesn’t apply just tothe very wealthy. The truth iseveryone who owns any propertyneeds a will to direct who shouldbenefit. Otherwise, some or all of your

property will be split up accord-ing to state law, which may leaveyour property in ways you didnot want or intend.Therefore, whether or not you

include a bequest to Life-StudyFellowship, we encourage you toseek the services of an attorneyto have a will drawn up if youhave not already done so.

I was an emotional wreck thefirst time I wrote to Fellowship’sSpecial Help Department. Eventhough I was just a teenager, mylife had been shattered into amillion pieces. I was into drugs.I had been required to appear incourt several times. I couldn’tkeep up with my school workand eventually dropped out.Yes, I was an absolute mess.

And it’s no wonder, because myhome situation didn’t help mat-ters. Both of my parents weredrinking heavily and the entirefamily just seemed to be lost andunhappy. That was the kind of hopeless

picture I faced. Yet, I can’t say itwas really hopeless, for some-how I had enough hope left to getin touch with Life-StudyFellowship. I’ll always be thank-ful for whatever made me dothat!You (Fellowship) started me

thinking . . . thinking aboutprayer and about God! As Ibegan praying regularly, Igained a peace and calmness Ihadn’t felt in a long, long time. Istopped being so nervous, andcame to realize that in spite ofthe mess I had made of my life,God still loved me and caredabout me. Changes began to take place,

and I could hardly believe someof the great things that werehappening. My mother and

father quit drinking completely!My own attitude became brightand positive. Not a day passedwhen I did not turn to the Lordin prayer. He became my rock,and on that rock He rebuilt myshattered life!I got out of my bad ways, giv-

ing up the drugs that once hadruled my mind. I overcame thetemptation to hang around withthe wrong crowed and get intotrouble. I also went back toschool, eager to learn and do bet-ter. What a remarkable difference

it made to discover I was notalone! I had God and I had myFellowship Friends. My heartfelt like singing!No matter how many mistakes

people make, no matter how lostand confused you may be . . . theLord can help you do somethingabout it! I know, for He has liftedme from the depths of despair tothis new joy in living. Just turnto Him and He will turn to you!

Dear Friend, we’ve said manytimes that we love to get lettersfrom you and your FellowMembers. That correspondenceoften shows us what is mostimportant to our FellowshipFriends, and how much faith is apart of their lives.

For instance, a recent letterfrom a Member we’ll call“Frank,” talked about how hesees God’s work in his garden.You see, Frank is an avid gar-dener who enjoys seeing theseeds he plants turn into food forhim and his family.

Franks told us the Lord hasblessed the soil he tills, so thatits plants will bloom and thrive.The delightful fragrance andbeauty of flowers is anotherreflection of God’s love, headded. In fact, Frank said hefeels closer to the Lord in hisgarden than anywhere else!

The Bible tells us in Genesis2:9,“And out of the ground madethe Lord God to grow every treethat is pleasant to the sight, andgood for food . . .” Yes, Dear Member, you surely

don’t need to be in a church to bein the presence of God. He iseverywhere, in every part of ourWorld. You can experience Hiscompany by spending quietmoments in a garden, walkingin your neighborhood or simplysitting on your front porch. And

everywhere you look, you willsee people and other livingthings that are examples of theLord’s handiwork.

Nearly everyone has gonethrough periods in which life’schallenges get them down. Theymay wonder if God really hearstheir prayers, or cares aboutthem. That’s when a garden, orjust a plain back yard, can be aquiet place for you to reconnectwith the Lord and reinforce yourfaith. Why? Because with God’shandiwork all around you, it’shard to feel forsaken and hope-less.

It’s true! Just as God createdthe Garden of Eden as a beauti-ful sanctuary, your own gardenor yard can be a special place foryou, Dear Friend. As the latepoet Dorothy Frances Gurneywrote in her 1925 poem titledGod’s Garden, “One is nearerGod’s heart in a garden thananywhere else on Earth!”

The Lord’s Handiwork Is All Around Us, In Every Living Thing!

The Lord Is Watching Over UsSo You’re Never Alone!

“This is a great mystery: but Ispeak concerning Christ and thechurch.” ~Ephesians 5:32Sometimes it’s a mystery why

things happen the way they do,isn’t it, Dear Friends? Do youever wonder how old friendscan suddenly show up at yourdoor, or why world events turnout like they do?Consider the experience of

Fellowship Friend Brenda A.from the United Kingdom, whowrote to tell us how delightedshe is to find Fellowship aftermany years of absence. “Dear Life-Study Fellowship,Many years ago, maybe about

20 years, my mother used to giveme your FAITH magazine toread and somehow, when I lefthome I lost touch with the maga-zine. Whilst on holiday at my moth-

er’s house, one day I asked her ifshe had any FAITH magazinesagain, but she said, ‘No.’ One day, whilst cleaning up,

she came across one which wasdated November-December 2001to January 2002. I was so happyand overjoyed that I could startreading it again and get back intouch with you! God certainly works in myste-

rious ways. Thank you God andthank you Life-StudyFellowship for the joy yourmagazine has brought me

throughout my teens and nowadulthood. Please, could youstart sending me FAITHmagazine as I want to become aMember. I am enclosing $10,which I hope will help in someway. And again, thank you andGod Bless You!”We’re thrilled to have gotten

in touch with Brenda again. Doyou think God played a role inreuniting her with herFellowship Friends after manyyears? We hope so because webelieve all things with God arepossible! Sometimes, it’s just amatter of asking the Lord, asour Friend, Brenda, did for helpin finding what she had missed. He hears our requests, and

just at the right time, sometimesafter we’ve given up, He can stepin and give us the solution weneeded. Now, isn’t it a goodfeeling to know the Lord iswatching over us? It just showswe’re never really alone!

“We’re Now Just About Caught Up On All Our Bills!”So many problems under one

roof ! That’s what our home waslike when I first started receiv-ing Faith Magazine. We were ina horrible state of affairs withno answers in sight. We were very heavily in debt.

Our creditors kept calling us allthe time because we could notmake payments on all of ourbills. Worst of all, the mortgagecompany was threatening toforeclose on the house. In addi-tion to our money worries, myhusband was drinking toomuch, and I was awfully con-cerned about him.I also did not know what to do

about our young daughter. Shehad just graduated from highschool and wanted so much toenroll in college. But we had noidea where the money wouldcome from, and it looked as if weweren’t going to be able to helpher continue her education.That really hurt! I didn’t knowwhere to turn or what to do.With so many problems, I felttrapped, as if my hands weretied.

Yes, that’s how bad thingswere when I first stated gettingFaith Magazine. And it wasn’tlong after that, that I was writ-ing to Fellowship and receivingSpecial Help Prayers as well. Formost assuredly, our family need-ed God’s help.

As I prayed and read FaithMagazine, remarkable changescame about . . . changes that onlyGod could bring!My husband realized he had a

drinking problem and soughtcounseling to get better. And ourfinances took a big turn for thebetter, too!

We’re now just about caughtup on all our bills, and we areable to make regular monthlypayments on time.

Things are also working outso well for our daughter. We’vebeen blessed with the ways andmeans to send her to college, andthat matters a great deal to theentire family. Yes, we have comesuch a long way, and I know wewill make it now!Something else I know, too. We

couldn’t have come this far with-out God’s help and Fellowship’shelp. My prayers will always befilled with words of thanks forboth the Lord and Fellowship!

‘Tis the time for summer vaca-tions, and fun times at the beach,a pool, park or lake. OurMembers know what to pack forroad trips, and they have greatideas for those backyard barbe-cues as well. So sit back and readthrough some of their tips. Theycan save you time and effort asyou embark on summer fun! Andbe sure to send us some of yourown Helpful Hints!

* * *CONDIMENT CORRAL

Keep those condiments in a muf-fin tin. You can carry them easilyfrom the kitchen and serve mus-tard, catsup, relish, etc, in oneeasy pass. Since cooking out ispart of summer this can save youtime and steps!

* * *JELLO KNOWHOW

Gelatin salads can have a life oftheir own when you try toremove them from the mold. It’sall in knowing how ... first spraythe mold with vegetable spraybefore filling. When removing,carefully pull gelatin away fromedge of bowl to break the sealand let air in. Then turn upsidedown on plate and shake gentlyup and down.

* * *COOLING OUT

Going on a picnic? Ice in a cooler

melts quickly and everythingsort of floats around in the water.Try this instead: fill empty milkcartons with water and freezeovernight. Pack in the cooleraround your food and everythingstays cold ... and dry!

* * *

DRIVING WITH KIDSIf you have an older car withoutelectronics it can be a an extrachallenge. Try hanging a grocerybag over the back seat of the car.It will hold small toys, games,water bottles and other must-have items. You can even use amagic marker to put kids’ nameson the bags!

* * * CLEANING UP

Never go anywhere in the sum-mer without plastic bags andhandy-wipes. Wet bathing suitscome home safely packed in plas-tic. And summertime disastersfrom dripping ice cream tospilled catsup can be taken careof with handy-wipes. A littlevinegar to relieve sunburn orstings, and band-aids for minorcuts and scrapes also help!

* * *SUN SAFETY

Be safe, not sorry; don’t forgetsun block! Sunburns are danger-ous and painful!

The Lord Wants Us To Know We HaveThe Power To Change Our Lives!

In the words of Psalm 33:18-21:“Behold, the Eye of the Lord is

upon them that fear Him, uponthem that hope in His mercy.Our soul waiteth for the Lord:He is our help and our shield.For our heart shall rejoice inHim, because we have trusted inHis Holy Name.”Yes, Dear Friend, it is true the

Lord watches what we do. But doyou ever wonder what he’slooking for? Maybe it is to seehow we handle the challenges inour lives. Do we get angry and shout at

loved ones or do we keep a levelhead and deal with things in acalm, collected manner?When we are faced with an

illness within us or someone welove, do we lash out at howunfair life is or do we set aboutdoing the very best we can tohelp ourselves or the person

who is sick?How do we act if we lose a job

or face serious money problems?Do we take out our anger onothers or do we focus our energyon looking for a new job andsaving the money we have onhand?In short, Friends, the Lord is

watching and He wants us toknow we have the power tochange our lives for the better!You see, He gave us the free

will to make decisions thataffect our lives and the lives ofothers, with His guidance. That last little part is very

important, because people don’talways make the right choicesfor them and for their lovedones. Sometimes, we may forgetthe bigger picture that Godwants us to see...a picture inwhich we put the needs of oth-ers before ours. Now, some may ask, “What

does that mean I should do whenI make important decisions?How will I know the right thingto do?”Well, when we’re faced with

something like that, we maywant to pray about that decisionand ask for the Lord’s help. He isalways waiting to hear ourquestions and offer His advice ina way that can make the rightanswer shine out from all therest.

I admit I usually fail to noticemany of the things in the back-ground when I’m walking downthe street. For example, I don’talways pay mind to the tallbuildings, street vendors, oreven the ever-present sound oftraffic. I’m just so accustomed tothese things that I tune themout.

Another sight I often see arehomeless people. You see themeverywhere; sleeping in thestreets with all their belongings,walking aimlessly with nowhereto go, or even sifting through thegarbage looking for food. It’s such a common sight in the

city that it sometimes goes unno-ticed. But one day recently, I took spe-

cial notice of their plight. I wasenjoying my daily walk down-town when I saw several youngmen asking passersby for sparechange. As I watched the men, Inoticed that nobody was puttingany change in their paper cups.Some seemed frightened by themen, and others paid them noattention at all. Still others, likeme, had no spare change to give.I had brought only enoughmoney with me for the cup ofcoffee I was sipping as I watchedthis scene.The men also had a cup of cof-

fee . . . one cup for four men! I feltvery sad for them as I walked

home. I didn’t know their sto-ries, why they were homeless orwhy they weren’t working. But, Ithought, there may be a verygood reason.

When I returned home, Inoticed a letter from Life-StudyFellowship had arrived.Enclosed with the letter welcom-ing me to Fellowship’s PrayerBenefit was a prayer titled: “IPray Today For The Hungry AndHomeless!” I thought it wasremarkable that this prayershould arrive on that particularday.

The events of that morningmade me stop and think aboutwhat I could do to help others. Ialso thought about how blessed Iam to have the food and shelter Ineed.

I hope all in Fellowship willcontinue to pray for the hungryand homeless in our cities andthroughout the World. And, Ithank Life-Study Fellowship forhelping to bring a new under-standing of this problem to itsMembers.

Sweet Hour Of Prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!That calls me from a World of care,And bids me at my Father's throneMake all my wants and wishes known.In seasons of distress and grief,My soul has often found relief,And oft escaped the tempter's snareBy thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!The joys I feel, the bliss I shareOf those whose anxious spirits burnWith strong desires for thy return!With such I hasten to the place,Where God my Savior shows His Face,And gladly take my station there,And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!Thy wings shall my petition bearTo Him whose truth and faithfulnessEngage the waiting soul to bless.And since He bids me seek His Face,Believe His Word, and trust His Grace,I'll cast on Him my every care,And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
