Cloud cover and showers prohibited most morning flying activities, but vintage planes were able to take off and land in the afternoon. The group, along with the Wilfong family and friends, watched the fly-ins from the hangar and were able to visit other hangars, including one with classic race cars. The Wilfongs gave a tour of their living quarters and were wonderful hosts. Joe, Debbie, and Bill departed late afternoon for Seguin, where Bill trailered his TT and returned to Austin. Henry proceeded with Joe and Debbie to Martindale on the scenic route on Old Martindale Road to Highway 20—no rain, pleasant temperature, and beautiful country-side. What a great day! Many thanks to Linda and Dick for planning the event and opening their place! Hopefully, the Club will be invited again, and more members can visit this interesting and historic location.

MINUTES OF THE May 2016 MEETING

By Secretary Joyce Shierlow

. At 7pm on May17,2016 President Robert Norberg called the regular monthly meeting of the Cen-TexTin Lizzies to order. There were 22 members and 1 guest present. The guest is Ed Penniman and he owns a 1924 Model T touring car and is a member of the MTFCA.

Phil Schreiber and Marty Webb stopped in to try to recruit some of the members to help them in their movie endeavors by bringing their T's to the movie set and be prepared to be there to help get their cars ready to be in the movie that these two are planning to make. They will want several year models of old cars, not just Model T's but beginning in the T era and continuing on up into the '70s or '80 year model cars. Filming is to take place near Hamilton Pool. They will also want someone on the set that knows the antique cars in case of break-downs. They will pay per day for the car. Filming is to begin during the week of June 6th or 7th and continue on into September. You can contact them at [email protected].

Vic Donnell made a motion to accept the minutes of the April meeting as written in the Band Chatter. Bob Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Jan Donnell gave the treasurer's report and stated that we have a workable bank balance in our account. George Brunner made a motion to accept the report as given and Bob Ross seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Cynthia Hadorn stated that Corky Stanley is receiving hospice at home and her condition is quite poor. Cynthia also stated that she received a thank you letter from MTFCA for our generous contribution to the museum fund in memory of Stella Unger's mother who passed a few months ago.

John Anderson said that he would like the members to contribute articles for the newsletter.Bob and Karen Ross brought refreshments for this evening. Vic and Jan Donnell and George

Brunner will bring them in June. Joe Pinnelli will give the program in June.No one joined the San Antonio club at the Texas Transportation Museum car show due to a very

rainy day.Dick Wilfong and Steve Hadorn reported that several WWII planes will be attending the Zuehl air

show. The weather should be good for it on May 21st.Rob reminded us that the Father's Day Car show is on June 19th (Father's Day) and the weather

should be good for that. Hours are from 11-3pm. But bring your car a few hours sooner so that our cars can be parked in a continual row altogether as usual.

July 4th is the annual Martindale parade and we will have lunch at Mrs. Latham's and Carlton will be good for water and his place for restroom facilities.

SHOW & TELL: J. C. Carter brought some 1863 Civil War letters from a soldier's parents.John Anderson brought a celluloid disk for a phonograph and a Auto top patch kit in a cardboard cylinder. Vic Donnell gave a report on the Pate Swap Meet and brought a bag of car wash tokens with a Model T Coupelet stamped on each token and also a 1937semi truck in “O” scale for his train diorama. J. C. won for the best show and tell item.

A brief intermission for refreshments. Robert Norberg won the 50/50 drawing.John Anderson gave the program about the last T Party that was held in Bryan/College Station.

It will be held in Stephenville this year. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

. There is an old saying that goes” Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the

most”.That definitely applies to me this month. I told our editor on Tuesday that I would get this message to him soon, so that I was not holding up the newsletter. Well here it is Saturday and he just sent me a text asking for it, UGH! I can’t believe I forgot. I am sure none of you can relate to this situation…….Plans are well underway for our activity this month, which is tomorrow (Sunday) at the AACA Father’s Day Car Show, 51st & Lamar St in Austin; I hope we have a good showing of Model T’s, as we usually do.This will the first time this year that I have been able get my model T out after a lengthy engine rebuild. Now that I am ready to tour, I will only get to back it off the trailer and park it; at least that’s a start. There is more touring to come later in the year. With the engine work all done, I wouldn’t mind finding a Ruckstell rear axle, I do not necessarily need one but seem to think I want one and you never know, one may just turn up for sale one of these days. The car wrangler for the TV Series “The Son” has contact me a few more times still looking for cars, filming starts next week, they are looking for Pre-1916 cars. A few of you have made contact with them expressing some interest. It is a chance for you and your car to make some money, it is always a gamble though as Hollywood folks do not treat our cars the same as we do. The best situation I believe is if only you drive your own car in show. That’s enough ramblings for now, back to work getting things ready for the car show tomorrow.Hope to see y’all there.

Till next monthRobert Norberg - President

Epic Model T Trip Will Continue After Wreck

By Anthony J. Marino

Good news! The April 28, 2016 Old Car

Weekly reports that Dirk and Trudy Retger’s

1915 Model T Ford is undergoing restoration

to continue their around the world trip,

hopefully by 2017. As per Old Car Weekly,

their bid to drive around the world was on

hold after the Ford was involved in a crash in

Belgium. Their quest to circumnavigate the

globe in a Model T came to a crunching halt

when the car and their Land Rover support

vehicle both were rear-ended by a truck.

Rear-ended in Belgium

The Model T is currently undergoing a re-

build, and they are fundraising via their web

site www.tfordworldtour.org/ to complete

the task. “Our schedule was to go to New

Zealand and Australia in 2016, but because of

the accident in August 2015… we first have to

restore the cars,” Dirk Retger told the web-

site www.stuff.co.nz. “We are busy now re-

storing the Model T and we hope to get it

back on the road again this year.”

The FLIVVER FLASH Page 5

The Retger’s, from the Netherlands,

bought the car in 1997 and began their jour-

ney in 2012 and have so far covered around

5000 miles, visiting over 50 countries cover-

ing all the continents of the world. They are

making this journey of approx. 80,000 miles

in order to raise money to support the world-

wide work of SOS Children's Villages Interna-

tional, a children’s aid organization.

In 2013, the retired couple drove

through the USA Canada on a 180-day road

trip. The Retger’s Ford Model T is mostly un-

altered from its 1915 configuration. One ex-

ception is larger tires for the wooden-spoked

wheels, making the ride softer for long jour-

neys.

A YouTube video of the Model T world tour

can be seen at https://youtu.be/hhwVjJvEjAs.
