WINE PANEL
Karen Furnari, Moderator
Program: September 7th
DG John Weiss
District Governor
Annual Visit
Karen Furnari introduced members of our first ever wine panel. The
panel included John Gress, Manager from Mastro’s, Lori Lafferty, Wine
Director at Mastro’s, Jeff Borenstein, Martin Anderson and Steve Fur-
nari. Jeff and Martin wondered how they were selected to serve on the
panel, but went along with it and provided light-hearted humor through-
out the conversation. Karen initated some questions of the wine panel,
and the open the mike for questions from the members.
The first question was posed to Steve Furnari; “Who introduced you to
wine?” He responded by saying he was born into an Irish Catholic, Italian
family in Brooklyn where his grandfather made 300 gallons of wine each
year. Steve was certainly qualified to serve on the panel.
Another question was posed to our former club member John Gress on
recent wine trends. Surprising enough, John responded by saying that
the current trend is drinking rose. He continued by saying there is a high
demand for rose, especially in the Summer.
Answers from all were highly informative, awfully amusing or both!

SEPTEMBER ROTARY THEME: A Word from the District
The monthly theme for September is Basic
Education and Literacy. Think about the educa-
tion programs we as a district support. We pro-
vide scholarships to high school graduates for college or
trade schools. We support RYLA. We support schools for
girls in India (PACE). We support the schools in our
communities. Perhaps your club might consider inviting
local educators and literacy organizations. Perhaps invite
your own club educators to provide a “Craft Talk”.
