“Never place a period where God has placed a comma.”—Gracie Allen “God is Still Speaking….”

No matter who you are; no matter where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

May & June 2019

As my time among you as your Pastor –Teacher draws to a close …..

I thank you for the many gifts and personal expressions of affection which you shared with me at the reception at Pelican Point. Your generosity of spirit overwhelms me beyond anything I can imagine.

Our relationships through the years have been the life–blood of our church family. So many beginnings and endings, comings and goings are etched into our memory, and spirit. We have become who we are because of the character of each of you in our congregational life. Along with this, I have been shaped and renewed in more ways than I can count by your participation in all our doings through the years.

I can’t help but think that we as individuals, and as a Church, are truly God’s gift to the world through each other and to so many others. Each and every one of us is here because, in some way, we have chosen to be here. I am so very thankful for your interesting choices.

Even though I will continue to live in our community, you will not see me in our congregation until you new Pastor is well settled among you. As I worship elsewhere in our United Church of Christ, I will trust that you will find yourselves in a new and trusted relationship with another of God’s servant pastor–teachers.

We have come a long way, and our journey has been filled with so much that has challenged and affirmed each of us in many surprising ways. I am absolutely confident that your future as a family of faith doing the work of Christ will be filled with unimaginable goodness and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Pastor John Robinson bid the Mayflower Pilgrims to have a good voyage by telling them that God has yet more truth and light to break forth out of the holy word. Be ready to receive whatever truth shall be made known to you from the word of God.

May you hear, see and be touched by God’s living word in surprising life–giving ways!

Musical Notes by Barb Quinn

This time every year, we ask the same question…where did “Season” go? Didn’t we just have the Welcome Back Barbeque? Time flies! Both the Chancel Choir and the Bella Hand-bell Choir have bid (temporary) fond farewells to some of the members. The ringers will return on the last Sunday in October. Of course, they will be practicing much sooner than that. The same goes for the singers, who will finish for the season on May 19

th and will return on the first Sunday in October.

They, too, will start rehearsing sooner than that. Thank you to the dedicated members of both groups. I would like to offer a personal “Thank You” to Sue Jack, who comes in every week before choir rehearsal to transfer each week’s music from the practice folders to the black choir folders in the order that the pieces will be sung. She also takes all of the pieces that I have laid out to rehearse for future services and places them in each person’s practice folder. It is a huge help to me! If you are interested in joining either of the choirs, please contact directors Pat Hodgkins (handbells) or Barb Quinn (chancel choir). New members are welcomed with many open arms! During the summer months, I am (sort of) on vacation (but still working!). I will be writing more about our wonderful substitute musicians in the next Tidings. (Sometimes I even substitute for myself!) Music is an important part of the worship services at VUCC all year round, so even in the summer, we all must make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
