Ongoing effort urges homeowners with mortgage trouble to reach out to learn of free federal resources to avoid foreclosure

WASHINGTON - To increase awareness of the Making Home Affordable® Program’s free resources and assistance for struggling homeowners, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Ad Council today unveiled the third and final phase of their Foreclosure Prevention Assistance Public Service Advertising (PSA) Campaign.

Data shows that nearly one in 14 U.S. homeowners has fallen behind on his or her mortgage payments.

The new phase of the campaign seeks to identify with those homeowners and raise awareness of free government resources designed to help avoid foreclosure.

As announced earlier this year, the Making Home Affordable® Program has been extended through December 2013 and the eligibility criteria have been broadened.

Now, homeowners with rental properties and additional homeowners facing a negative change in their finances may be eligible for assistance.

“While communities across the country are beginning to recover from an unprecedented housing crisis, too many families are still struggling with their mortgage payments and are unsure of where to turn for help,” said Treasury Undersecretary for Domestic Finance Mary Miller. “Millions of homeowners have gotten help to avoid foreclosure since 2009. We want to make sure

struggling homeowners know today that there are free government resources available to help homeowners avoid foreclosure.”

Ad Council research shows that many struggling homeowners delay conversations about their mortgage concerns because they feel confused about where to turn for help and about whom to trust.

With that in mind, Chicago-based advertising agency Schafer Condon Carter, created the new print, radio, outdoor and web PSAs to strongly encourage homeowners not to give up hope and remind them that there are free resources available to help.

The PSAs, which are available in English and Spanish, direct homeowners to call 888-995-HOPE (4673) for free access to HUD-approved housing experts who are available to speak one-on-one about solutions based on each family’s individual circumstances, 24

hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, the campaign

drives homeowners to the website, MakingHomeAffordable.gov, which hosts robust online resources where homeowners can learn how to address their mortgage concerns.

“Even as the housing market continues to strengthen and stabilize, it is more important than ever that we provide the one-on-one counseling services HUD-approved housing agencies give to families who are still struggling to make ends meet and are in danger of losing their homes," said FHA Acting Commissioner Carol Galante. "Thanks to the Ad Council’s efforts, more families will be able to take advantage of this free service and receive unbiased advice from trained experts who will help them better understand their options.”

When people commit their lives to Jesus and repent of their sins, they are given

The Key to Heaven. However, you can own

the key to a house, but if you are outside and the door is locked you cannot gain entry unless you have that key with you. So it is with Heaven.

We must have The Key to Heaven with us when we die or we don’t get in – it unlocks the Gate for us. Some people think that because they are saved they will go to Heaven anyway (doesn’t the Bible that? and they go back to their sinful lives. The Key is not being carried

with them and therefore they cannot gain entry into Heaven when they die.

Others carry The Key in their pocket – with them but out of sight. These people are often called ‘Sunday Christians’ They are still saved, and will still get into Heaven, but are more likely to ‘put The Key down’ and therefore not have it when they die.

The third group is the committed Christians who proudly hang The Key around their neck for the world to see. These people are more aware of their commitment and therefore less likely to put down The Key. They would normally have The Key on them when they die.

As soon as we receive The Key Satan tries to turn us away from God and back onto his path to death. He does this with subtle comments like: “it’s a large key and would be most uncomfortable to hang

around your neck or put in your pocket – now that you know you are saved why you don’t just leave it somewhere handy so that when you die you can make sure that you have it”.

Satan always tries to get people to move The Key from their necks to their pockets, and then out of their pockets and off their persons altogether.

Of course, we don’t know the day nor the hour when we will die so if we listen to Satan we are most unlikely to have The Key on us at that time.

You can put The Key down (backslide) and then pick it up later (repent), but unless you do that before you die you will not be saved and will not spend eternity in Heaven.

The only problem is in the timing – do you know when you are going to die? If you died today, do you know where you would go?

The Dallas Cowboys football team is a tragedy on and off the field. The team plays poorly and its coaching is suspect. In addition to its tragic on the field display, the team in a disaster off the field.

Most recently two of its members were involved in a fatal automobile accident. One player was killed; the best friend of the driver, and the other was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

He failed a sobriety test after the accident, went to jail and was released after posting $500,000.

This is the not the first time the young man whose life was spared has run into trouble with the law. He spent a month behind bars before for something that common sense should have told him to avoid.

The accident occurred hours before the team was to board a plane and play an away game.

The accident happened at two in the morning after the two young men had been at nightclub with several other players from the team, according to news reports.

The questions remains what were these two you men doing at a club so late if they had a game in a matter of days?

And what about the other players that were present? Did the owners of the club recognize that the driver was drunk?

The ownership of the Cowboys is not without blame. Why does the team continue to draft young men who have bodies the size of giants but seem to have brains that size of a gnat?

Recently, another Cowboy ballplayer was arrested for hitting his mother. Another former player faces a long jail sentence if he is convicted of the federal drug charges that have been lodged against him.

The history of the Cowboys is replete with great athletes on the field who seem to have left their morality under their beds.

The owners of the Cowboys must know what types of players they are drafting. If they do not then I want to volunteer to do the drafting for them.

The dreaded Cowboys

The Key

There are some outstanding people who live in Dallas, recognized as one of the nation’s first class cities. Each day more people are coming here in an effort to escape the cold and the bitterness that is in the northern and the eastern sections of our country. They quickly become a part of our Dallas family.

The come here because of our job climate and our housing prices which are much more reasonable than those in places like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.

Southern people, which we are, have always been

known for their friendliness and their charm. We are warm people who will give you our last dime if we see that you are willing to work and improve your station in life.

Dallas has world-class museums and world-class leaders such as Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson who is recognized as one of the most capable legislators in Washington who has remained un-bought and un-bossed since the first day that she enters politics nearly forty years ago.

Dallas is also known for its great churches and its great preachers, many of whom have become members of the religious hall of fame, an institution that my father, William

Blair, the founder of the Elite News paper, started to honor those who serve God and the community.

The sporting teams in Dallas are known world-wide for their winning attitudes and their championship caliber of players. While it has been a while since we last won a championship in a professional sport, do not fear because our time is soon coming and we will once against be known as the best of the best.

And while we have all of these things that I am proud and you should be proud of we must never forget that what makes Dallas great as a city is our people, our ability to respect one another, assist other another and love one another.

Dear Dr. Hollie,

My sister’s daughter is like a daughter to me. I’ve basically been a second mother to her since she was born. We spend a lot of time together and we can talk about anything that she needs to talk about. She is 14 years old now and we’ve had a wide range of conversations as you may imagine. Well, now she has brought an issue to me that I don’t know how to deal with. Apparently, she saw her father groping and kissing a family friend in their home. She says that she did interrupt them, but they played it off, said it was nothing and

the lady left the house. She hasn’t had any more conversations about it until she told me. I knew something was bothering her a lot and I finally got her to talk about. I was totally blown away with this because I have no clue as to what to tell a teenaged child on how to handle this situation. She’s nervous because she adores her father, but she feels like she should tell her mom. I just don’t know.

Help me!Dear Help, Because your letter is written by you and not your niece, let me give this advice for you. Stay out of it because you will become the scapegoat for the villain. Send your niece back to her father so he can tell her what to do about her pain, confusion, and sense of sadness; otherwise, there will be no peace.

How do we define the right kind of praying and the wrong kind of praying? Well, we must agree that the right kind of praying is what the wrong kind of praying is not. When the right kind of praying takes place lives are changed, sins are confessed, burdens are lifted, unless we pray right Christ will never be accepted in the hearts of sinners. I’m talking about the kind of praying that brings revival. The right kind of praying goes beyond the call of “Duty”, the kind that ask not only personal benefits and blessings, that does not give up at the midnight hour. The kind of praying that not only pray in public, but also in private; not only pray corporately, but also individually, and not only “Outward”, but also inwardly, and not only pray just, “ now and then “ but pray continually; now that’s the right kind of praying......

1But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.2He prayed to the Lord, “O Lord, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.3Now, O Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.” 4But the Lord replied, “Have you any right to be angry?”5Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.6Then the Lord God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine.7But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered.8When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind and

the sun blaze on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, “It would be better for me to die than to live.”9But God said to Jonah, “Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?” “I do,” he said. “I am angry enough to die.”10But the Lord said, “You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.11But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?”

Jonah is an incredible book about the grace of God to receive back to himself those who have fallen and then returned to God. Let’s look at Jonah chapter 4 and let’s see what God’s word has to say this morning. Look at verse 2, “Is

this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you were a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.” It other words, Jonah is saying, “God you are being too nice to them! You should have wiped them out! Lord, if it’s going to be this way, just kill me.”

But then God asks him a question, look at verse 4, “Have you any right to be angry?” I like the NASB translation of this which says, “Do you have a good reason to be angry like this.”Amen! You see, God is not asking Jonah this because He does not know the answer. God is asking Jonah this question to show him that he needs an attitude adjustment. You see, Jonah has a thinking problem and God is going to help him deal with it. Have you ever

met someone who needed an ‘attitude’ adjustment’? Have you ever needed an ‘attitude adjustment’?

Some of us feel like the grandfather whose grandchildren played a practical joke on. Each afternoon my Grandfather would lie down for a nap. One day, as a practical joke, the kids decided to put Limburger cheese in his moustache. Quite soon he awoke sniffing. “Why, this room stinks,” he exclaimed as he got up and went out into the kitchen. He was not there long until he decided that the kitchen smelled too, so he walked outdoors for a breath of fresh air. Much to Grandpa’s surprise, the open air brought no relief, and he proclaimed, “The whole world stinks!”

After wonderful food with family and friends I am in search for home cooking that I don’t have to do. This week’s search led me to Two Silver Spoons

in Grand Prairie. Your meal comes with your Meat,

3 sides and cornbread. Not wanting any turkey or chicken I made my choice from the Smoked BBQ selection and ordered bar-b-que ribs and hot links, cabbage, corn and broccoli rice casserole with banana pudding. I would have ordered the 3 meat combo plate but the brisket was being prepared for the next day. I could not wait to get it home and to

dig in. If you know

of Two Silver Spoons you know that they recently moved from a location that mostly provided for takeout to their new location that allows for full service restaurant and if you ask they will accommodate a special event.

For you sports fans there is a big flat screen that will have a game or some sports item for you to view. Since this is a family owned business you will see family taking ownership in what is being provided.

Well, I rush home knowing I was in for a treat but today was not the day. The ribs were very good and so were the links but if you know me you know I DO NOT LIKE CANNED

VEGETABLES. The corn, my favorite vegetable,

was canned. The cabbage was overcooked and salty. The broccoli rice was gummy with too much pepper and for the price the meat could not hold up to the price I paid for the amount of meat I got, 3 ribs and 2 links since the sides were

useless. Partial redemption came with

“We know that there are still millions of families across the nation facing the threat of home foreclosure,” said Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council.

“We hope to be able to reach these Americans with a message of hope and inspire them to get the help they need.”

"All of us at SCC feel honored to be working with the Ad Council, Treasury, and HUD on this campaign which is providing real assistance to struggling homeowners,” said David Selby, president and Managing Partner of Schafer Condon Carter, whose team created the ads pro bono. “At its core, the campaign attempts to capture the inertia and intense mental paralysis homeowners feel when faced with the prospect of losing their homes.

“Our hope is that this advertising will speak directly and powerfully to those most in need of help and cause them to take immediate action." Per the Ad Council model, all PSAs will be aired and run in time and space donated by media organizations. Since the campaign was launched in 2010, media outlets have donated $68.7 million in air time and space. The new ads are being distributed ahead of the month of January – a time when historically many families struggle with their bills and are at increased risk of foreclosure.

Rapping with FairyNow that the “Football season” is over for most teams, I wanted to know from the kids Fairy Street Mama what they would concentrate

on now? What other activities would they now participate in or what subjects in school would now get more attention? I spoke with a young man who made his intentions well known. Roland: “I’m going to just study more at school! I wish I could still play football. But since I can’t, I’ll keep trying to make better grades in school. I don’t have to go to practice in the evenings anymore so now I have more time. I can study more and I have more time to play my games. My brother, D’Eric and I still play football with each other when we can. Sometimes my dad plays with us too! I like to play football a lot. I can’t wait till it starts again. My mother says she’s not going to let me play football if I don’t keep my grades up, so I have to study more!”

Roland Brown, 9 yrs. old – 4th gradeFairy: Kids remember that this time of the year is actually the half way mark. So if you weren’t doing your best before, you may still have time to bring your grades up! Even if you are making good grades, keep it up! Be the best that you can be. Work hard on your studies and it will definitely pay off in the form of you graduating from High School and then College!

mAltA, mo. – Having been part of numerous home bible studies groups as well as adult sunday school classes throughout her christian life, bea serious believes these studies have helped her stay focused on Jesus christ and His plans for her life. Hoping to help others experience the joy in christ, serious

has completed “bible study with "me" and the cowboy” (published by westbow Press) which she hopes will lead believers, and nonbelievers, into a deeper relationship with God.

written to help christians understand the bible in a new way, the book brings biblical characters to life by presenting their lives through their own words. readers will also familiarize themselves with individuals from the bible helping them to become closer to those characters. A few of the characters that will be talking with the readers are Adam, eve, Abraham, moses, samson, david, John the baptist, mary magdalene and Jesus.

An excerpt from “bible study with “me” and the

cowboy”:my

grandfather was methuselah; my father was

lamech. i am noah. methuselah was enoch’s son (this enoch is my Great Grandfather; he is not cain’s son, that he named a city after; this enoch’s father was Jared. After enoch had methuselah “he walked with God, and when he was 365 years old he walked into heaven; for God took him.” Genesis 5: 21-24 enoch was one of the men in the bible that did not die. the other man that did not die was elijah, for he went to heaven in a whirlwind riding in a chariot of fire, pulled by horses of fire 11 Kings 2:11) and methuselah lived to be 969 years old which was the oldest man that ever lived.

serious urges anyone interested in the bible to pick up her book. “individuals will benefit by reading this book,” she says. “it has action, prophecy, humor and much more to keep the reader engaged throughout.”

Reverend Michael Williams was a good student at Prairie View A&M University where he studied the hard sciences, and once thought of becoming a politician or a doctor. Yet, life threw him a curve as it sometimes does and for many years after graduating from college Reverend Williams found himself a member of world renowned gospel recording groups.

“I loved traveling the world as a member of great gospel groups,” said Reverend Williams, who pastors the True Love Sanctuary Church located at 1911 Yuma Avenue in southeast Ft. Worth. “I performed before thousands of people and it was wonderful but I knew that I had a large calling that went beyond being on stage.”

Pastor Williams’ calling resulted in

his starting his ministry in September of 2001. “The Lord told me that people were searching for a true place of

worship. The main focus of my ministry is that a church must give back to the community. We are interested in the development of the total person,” he said.

Pastor Williams is joined in the shepherding of the church by his wife of thirty-four years, Jana, who is the “elect lady” of the church.

His son, Raphael, is the church’s youth pastor while his daughter, Rachel, supervises the praise and worship ministry.

“Our ministry wants to be able to meet the needs of the people who make up the Ft. Worth community,” said

Pastor Williams whose church provided Thanksgiving meals for 500 people

last November. “We are committed to rebuilding the lives of young people and assisting the seniors of our community. As a church we want to be a family for people who are searching to have their total needs met.”

“I love people,” Pastor Williams said. “I want people to understand that God is still using them, whether they are down and out or homeless. They are still children of God and they are loved.”

Pastor Williams also spends time working with the Ft. Worth Independent School District, working with special needs children. “It is one of the joys of my life,” he said. “I believe in our children. They are our future.”

“True Love is here to serve people and to serve the total community,” he said. “We are committed to change and we are committed to Christ.”

Johnny - B- GoodJohnny Manzielwins Heisman

There are two proclamations you want to make about an athlete’s career. One would be,”the first to ever do it”, and the other would be “ the greatest of all times.”

Johnny Manziel became the first freshman in the Heisman Trophy’s 77 year history.

If you look back at some of the outstanding freshman players you really start to realize how impressive this is.

Players like Eric Dickerson, Binnie Cozar, Hershal Walker, Marcus Dupree, Michael Vick, Adrian Peterson all made outstanding freshman debuts, but none

of them won the award. But don’t think for

a second that Johnny Manziel didn’t deserve the award, because this young man can play!

Let’s take a look back at some of his most notable games and stats.-Florida Game 23-30, 173 yards - 17 rushes for 60 yards 1 TD-SMU

Game 20-36-294 yards 4 TDs 14 rushes for 124 yards 2 TDs-Carolina Game15-20 174 yards 3 TDs 8 rushes for 78 yards 2 TDs-Arkansas29-38 453 3 TDs 14 rushes for 104 1 TD-Ole Miss Game17-26 191 yards 1 TDs 2 ints 20 rushes for 129 yards 1 TD -La. This kid showed the football world that he can play this game called football.

The only thing that Johnny Football has to do now is win the National Championship. But as for now all we can just say is “ He’s the first to ever do it.”

Congratulations Johnny Football!!!May God Bless You and Help Us

SPORTS WITH BILL BLAIR Toliver’s Talents

By Mark A. Toliver IIElite News Staffwriter

There will be a memorial service today for fallen Cowboy practice team linebacker, Jerry Brown. Brown died in a car crash early Saturday morning in a car driven by teammate and college class mate Josh Brent.

Brent would have been the starting nose tackle in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, had he not been arrested for

intoxication manslaughter, in Brown’s death.

Josh Brent’s arrest was another negative in a much depleted Cowboy defense. In order to play defense in any sport you have to be strong up the middle.

Last year’s defense was so weak in the middle, the traffic in there look like I 635 during rush hour.

They replaced an average inside linebacker in Brady James with a good inside backer in Bruce Carter.

That along with the fact that pro bowler Jay Ratliff anchored the defensive line from the middle gave hope that the boyz had improve themselves in the middle to the extent that they could compete for the division title in the NFC east. Barry Church would help Gerald Sensabaugh at the safety position.

That’s not bad for the middle of an NFL defense even play-off type defense.

The outside had never been much of a problem, but they

improved that. Drafting Maurice Claiborne, Cornerback, LSU and signing Pro- bowl type corner in Brandon Carr, from Kansas City Remember you already have DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer at the outside linebackers.

Some Naysayers thought they could improve themselves better by letting Spencer leave. Spencer is their best run stopper plus he was only two sacks behind Mario Williams and Buffalo gave Mario 96 million Dollars.

With the defense set the big question mark would be can all of those glass bodies on offense hold up.

Miles Austin, Felix Jones, Demarco Murray, and of course Tony Romo well at least part of that of that unit held up. The problem now is the offensive line.

Everything the Cowboys did to strengthen the middle of the defense, everyone of the

players are hurt with the exception of Gerald Sensabaugh, and add Kenyon Coleman, and Sean Lee to the injured list.

With all of these problems you would think this team would be doomed to the basement of their division but right now they are still fighting for a play-off spot. Pittsburgh’s coming to town that’s a winnable game for the Cowboys.

The Steelers are having some rough times themselves. Their defense is almost as

banged up as is the Cowboys. Their secondary is in

shambles, and Tony Romo and crew has been moving pretty good as a matter of fact they’ve been carrying the beat up defense.

I still think the Steelers are coming here to lose their last shot at play-offs, at least that was my feeling up until I heard the latest Cowboy news, Dez Bryant tore some ligaments in his left pinkie finger, and season ending surgery is required.

Can they beat the Steelers without Dez, it would take a Herculean effort but they can win it.

They’re at home which could be a problem, they’re not very good at home, but the Steelers are not very good on the road these days.

Thinks could get interesting this week, Giants got Atlanta, R.G 3 is banged up in Washington who knows what the NFL will look like next week.

Our Pastor Reverend Johnnie R.

Bradley, Sr.

Pastor Johnnie R. Bradley by far is one of the most gifted preachers in the City of Dallas and throughout the Metroplex and beyond.

He is kind, understanding and have great compassion for his members and everyone he meets.

The officers and members of Shiloh are indeed proud of him as our Under Shepherd. We have a lasting love in our hearts for our pastor.

Pastor Bradley is not only a pastor, but also a friend. He has been the Pastor/Teacher at Shiloh for over six years.

Since then, our membership has grown exponentially. The Lord God has blessed the ministries and work that has been done in His name.

Rev. Bradley certainly knows that only God can put the oil of joy in our hearts, the essence of love in our souls and the wisdom of God in our minds. Like Moses he is a leader, like Isaiah he is a preacher, like Daniel he knows the power of prayer, like Enoch he walks with God, like Paul he is not ashamed of the gospel and like John the Baptist he is a voice crying in the wilderness.

Pastor Bradley is a master teacher of the Word of God. He is always available when we need him.

He has a strong mind, a great heart and a true faith and ready hands to help when we need him most. He knows there is no secret what God can do. We simply love and respect him tremendously. Not only is he the best Pastor on this side of Heaven, he is a great husband to First Lady Deandra Bradley and father to his four children Joshua, Jeremiah, Jillian and Johnnie, Jr.

ROLLIN WITH A

BROTHAWelcome to the weekend, baaaaby! As of today(Friday, Dec. 14th), we have 12 days until Christmas! Are you in the “Christmas Spirit” yet? This week, my daughter asked me what I wanted this year as a present. I could only really think of one thing, but knowing that’s impossible, I realized the answer was nothing. Have you ever been in that frame of mind? There are various reasons to not be in the Spirit, from joy to pain, as Frankie Beverly would say. If you haven’t been caught up in the holiday vibe and would like to, read on... The best way to begin capturing the “Christmas Spirit” is to do nice things, or bless others where you see a need. With the economy(Sorry rush limbaugh)coming back slowly, there are folks all around that could use your help. Remember, the sooner you start blessing someone, the quicker you’ll roll into the holiday vibe. Merry Christmas to you and all the folks I’ve written about this year. As i approach my 10th Anniversary(5/13) writing for this paper, I truly realize the more we are different from celebs, the more our lives are the same. Same issues, same joys, just on a larger stage and with in some cases a lot of money. You have to just be thankful, for what you’ve got... Just this past week, 24 year old Josh Brent and his best friend/roommate, 25 year old Jerry Brown of the Dallas Cowboys were involved in a tragedy that cost Brown his life. Brent, like many this Holiday season appears to have had too much to drink, when he flipped his car in Irving. You may say that people get drunk and drive all the time. That’s true, but

the reality is that during this season of holiday/office parties, people who are not normally

intoxicated behind the wheel find themselves just that. Last week, I attended two Christmas party’s, one with free

beer and wine, the other with a cash bar. My wife was our designated driver and still had a blast. This Saturday, I have another

awesome party to attend. It’s up to us to make conscious choices of how we will interact with all the available fun. Just remember, as you enjoy all that the season brings, common sense will go a long way towards keeping things merry! ****Quick Celeb

Bites”: Lebron tells Charles Barkley to “Shut

Up” on his criticism of Miami Heat Teammate Dwayne Wade! Barkley keeps saying Wade, whose injured has lost something in his game!
