A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Friends,

A few weeks ago I displayed the magnificent power of Gorilla Glue to the youth through the Children’s Sermon. I had broken a pottery chalice. It was a clean break and I was able to put it back together without a problem. The break is hardly noticeable but I will not be able to drink from it again. I’m sure the crack is not completely sealed and I’m sure that Gorilla Glue is toxic. For now, this chalice will have to be retired. However, retired does not mean forgotten. It will still have a purpose and a use.

I have used this chalice more times than I can count celebrating communion with you. At the heart of the Sacrament of Communion is the act of remembering. Remembering in a deep and personal way. Remembering Jesus, His life, His ministry, the example of His love, His sacrifice on the cross, and His victory over sin and death for humankind through His resurrection.

I have moved the Chalice and the matching plate and pitcher to a shelf on the book shelf in my office. The set has been retired from service on the altar but on the shelf, it will become a constant reminder of communion with Christ and with you, the meal of community, community, and everlasting life. A reminder that death cannot overpower life, sorrow cannot over shadow joy, sharing does more than selfishness, community is the way of the Gospel, and that these truths are too easily forgotten. We need to be reminded.

And so, there it is. Standing on the shelf as a silent reminder of what Christ has done for me and the blessings that I have received from this community of faith.

Do you notice something else? The small silver chalice in front of the plate. It was with that chalice that I celebrated communion with my first Confirmation Class back in 1986. It was a sacred moment that I don’t care to forget and with the help of that chalice I won’t. Jesus told us to remember Him whenever we return to the table. Find ways to remember them and all of the days in between. Peace,

Puzzle Answer: breath, egg, rain, hole, , sun

ALERT -

Members and Friends of

Faith UCC, CV, PA

We’re ramping up efforts to return

to a new normal in the coming

weeks - and many of you will be an

important part of this effort. Music

at Faith has always been a primary

component of our community

worship experience. Your weekly

singing since April 11 reopening has

been an inspiration to all of us. I

hope more will attend these safe

surroundings. Thank you for that beautiful experience! Before we

can be in full gear later in the year, I invite and encourage those

who possess a magical talent to be part of special music in the com-

ing weeks. You are NEEDED. No money requests from you just

share your talent of music in community worship experience. It

really has a significant impact on everyone - sanctuary and cyber-

space. Want to sing, choose a favorite hymn tune - solo, duet,

etc.; play guitar, trumpet, piano or harp, just choose a Sunday to

offer your gift. It is a critical moment for ALL of us as we journey

through this challenging time. Check your life calendar, choose a

Sunday and call me... Dennis Duda at 215.361.8641 or

[email protected]. We can make this a wonderful moment for

everyone at Faith Church. Thank you so much. Miss you all so

very much! DD

Strengthen the Church offering supports congregations across the UCC in many ways - by Connie Larkman |

There are many ways to strengthen the church. In the last year, investments in technology allowed many United Church of Christ congregations to enhance their online worship services.

Other funds enabled new and renewing churches to grow their communities, one in a gentrifying neighborhood, others on a college campus and a town square.

COVID-19 grants empowered 50 churches to better serve their neighbors and their congregants gathering virtually during the pan-demic.

All of these ministries were supported through gifts to Strengthen the Church.

This special offering will be collected through the months of June & July. Please designate your donation “Strengthen the Church” on your offering envelope or on Tithe.ly
