Until recently, the Chamber was located in “Uptown” Watertown. Even though we haven’t physically moved, there’s been a movement toward rebranding – and we like it!

We commend those folks who have been working diligently as part of the formal charrette – a fancy word for a comprehensive study. They have encouraged each and every one of us to look at the area with a new vision and have formed a “Downtown” vitalization plan.

Over the past month, we’ve transitioned from referring to our neighborhood as “Uptown” Watertown to “Downtown” Watertown. But, it’s worth mentioning that we’ve seen more than just a change in verbiage occurring.

We’ve been thrilled to welcome several fantastic new businesses, including restaurants, to Downtown Watertown during the past few months. We continue to field inquiries from other potential businesses interested in what locations might be available Downtown.

Downtown Watertown already has some unique qualities. In addition to the allure of our unique historic buildings, we have the added draw of the Watertown Artwalk for the second year.

Attracting people Downtown is an important step in vitalization and we feel Watertown’s Wine Walk on Thursday, June 9th, is a step in the right direction. During this event, we’ll welcome hundreds of people to Downtown Watertown on the first night of Thursday Night Live. Those who have purchased a Watertown Wine Walk ticket will visit 16 Chamber businesses, have a chance to sample wine and do some shopping. The Chamber is also sponsoring the band Party of Five that evening.

As a community we need to continue to brainstorm on making Watertown – and Watertown’s Downtown – a destination. During a recent City Council Work Session, community members spoke passionately about their wishes for Downtown Watertown. While there is a long-term vision, there’s also evidence that people are putting their heart and soul into improvements already.

More and more people are living Downtown as apartments are being continually renovated. One downtown resident commented during the recent City Council Work Session that he and his wife can park their vehicles at home following work on Friday and have everything they need for the weekend within walking distance. That, my friends, sounds like a community where more people will be wanting to spend their time.

We’ve really enjoyed our years in “Uptown” Watertown, but you can now find The Chamber in “Downtown Watertown” at the corner of Kemp and Broadway!

"Go Blue" Parade attracted large crowdA “Go Blue” Parade honoring area law enforcement and first responders from Watertown and surrounding communities was held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 20, in downtown Watertown.

The public showed up in large numbers lining the parade route, many wearing blue and holding signs and American flags to show appreciation and support. The "Go Blue" parade was organized by The Chamber.

Above & below: Residents of all generations turned out to show support for local law enforcement and first responders.

Right: Assistant Police Chief Tim Toomey motored through the parade route on the department's Segway.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to attend the parade and show appreciation for the efforts of our law enforcement officers and first responders!
