What a privilege it's been these past months planning the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce's 100th Anniversary Celebration and Dessert Auction!

This culmination of our Chamber year, which falls on September 29, not only celebrates our members, but recognizes the hard-working board of directors and bestows honor on individuals and businesses who have made a difference in Watertown during the past year.

If you’ve attended previously, you are likely looking forward to seeing the creative (and downright delicious) dessert displays. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity, we encourage you to be part of this one-of-a-kind evening.

You'll want to arrive early so you can take the time to appreciate the detailed presentations each business or organization has put together. In many cases, the planning began just moments after last year's desserts were auctioned off!

Another highlight of the evening will be awarding certificates to the 2015 Leadership Watertown graduates. As our honored guests, this evening brings recognition for a year of learning more about area businesses, the community as a whole, their peers and themselves.

While the 100th Anniversary Celebration and Dessert Auction serves as a showcase for the many areas already mentioned, we also look toward the future and toward all the things we can do to better serve our members.

We're so thankful for the fantastic year led by our current Board Chairman Tom Beadnell and we are anticipating another amazing year as Chairman Elect Tim Sheehan takes the reigns.

Our Chamber is comprised of a diverse group of businesses and organizations. Some have been members for decades, while others have just recently joined.

We encourage you to take the time to get to know each other and be active in Chamber events. There's no doubt we can learn a great deal from one another as we work toward a common goal of making Watertown an even better place to live, work and play.

We're humbled to be part of an organization that has served the Watertown community for 100 years!

As we enter our 101st year, the Chamber will continue our community involvement. If you’d like to become more involved in the Chamber, you can be certain we have just the place for you.

Changing to Fall Activities

The Chamber has been out and about in the community for many events during the past month! We served ice cream treats at National Night Out and helped divvy up more delicious food during the Codington County 4-H BBQ! We also organized the LATI Street Fair to welcome new and returning students to Lake Area Technical Insitute and hosted a New Teachers' Luncheon at the County Fair Banquet Hall. Upper left: Forty new teachers were welcomed to Watertown during our annual New Teachers' Luncheon held August 21 at County Fair Banquet Hall. U.S. Congresswoman Kristi Noem (right) delivered opening remarks.

Upper right: Ag committee volunteers and Chamber staff helped serve the hundreds of folks who attended the 4-H BBQ on August 5.

Below: Multiple levels of the LATI Student Center were buzzing with activity on August 19 as Chamber members introduced their businesses and welcomed students to Watertown.

Our thanks to all who contributed to the success of these events!

Got your Watertown Bucks?Watertown Bucks make a great impression! They are out-standing as employee rewards -- and are also the perfect gift for many occasions.

Your Chamber membership gives you the ability to accept “Watertown Bucks” in your place of business. Last year, more than $500,000 in Watertown Bucks were spent in the businesses in our community!

Stop by The Chamber, 1 E Kemp, during business hours to purchase Watertown Bucks. They are available in several de-nominations. Give the local gift that keeps on giving!

As soon as my store opened in 2006, I joined the Chamber so that we could accept Water-town Bucks!

Then I found myself on the Chamber board and have continued to

be an active volunteer since!

I try to help where I can and when I can, but the Cookin' on

Kampeska event is my favorite! My whole family has become involved volunteering at it, too! I have also participated in Leadership Watertown, the Nine at Night Glow Golf Tournament, numerous Ribbon Cuttings and Chamber After 4's!

Being a Chamber member for my business is extremely im-portant! I love all the promotions they do, the website visiblity and the Facebook networking!

I have met many business people in Watertown through the Chamber that I probably would not have met otherwise. I ap-preciate the "Shop Local" campaigns the Chamber does for Watertown, too!

Outside of work I am busy running my children to their activi-ties or watching their sports events. Mason is a junior this year and is active in WHS soccer. Sydney is in 8th grade, gymnastics fills up her time and Regan is in 6th grade -- busy in dance and soccer. My husband, Tim, works for WAPA and we have a dog, Bentley that we all adore and is just like one of us!

Please remember to Shop Local first - we all appreciate the local support!
