As we enter the month of August, many changes and transitions have been taking place.

Last month we celebrated the retirement of Mr. Doug McGlynn. With his departure, I have the honor of serving as Superintendent. I am looking forward to serving this community and I will work diligently to uphold the high standards the Western Reserve Local Schools are known for. Debbie Farelli will continue as K-5 Principal, Mike Sauner will transition into the 6-12 Principal, and Alan Mikovich will be the Assistant Principal for 6-12 / Athletic Director.

The following letter was also sent to all families addressing our return to school in the fall.

Dear Western Reserve Families,As we approach the upcoming school

year I would like to let all of you know that our commitment to health and safety drives

everything that we do.Following the recent guidelines provided by

Governor DeWine we have been continually working on our plan to restart the school year. Our intention currently is to return to full in-person instruction with safety requirements this fall. Accompanying this letter is a document that outlines some basic information about our plan. This document includes multiple aspects of plans and steps taken to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff at Western Reserve. We have provided information regarding transportation, social distancing, mask policy, our prevention steps taken, as well as an option for parents to choose online instruction or face to face at the start of the year.

This document is by no means the exhaustive plan that we will provide in the near future, but is meant to update parents with general information until the comprehensive plan is made available.

It is our intention to disseminate the comprehensive plan in the next two weeks so families can make an informed decision and plan for the start of the school year according

to their needs. Each child and family has different needs and circumstances therefore we are planning to address concerns regarding all aspects of our students’ education.

Rest assured that no stone will be left unturned and we will address every aspect to return to school safely. Once the plan is provided we will ask parents to complete a form officially letting the school know if they intend to send their child back to school face to face or through our online option.

Library Trustees Hear Plan Detailing Libraries Reopening August 3

YOUNGSTOWN (July 23, 2020/For Immediate Release) – At a virtual special meeting today, the Board of Trustees, Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County (PLYMC), heard a report from Executive Director Aimee Fifarek that most libraries will reopen on August 3, ratified a contract with Library employees, approved a retirement incentive plan, and voted in a new Board member.

The Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, East, Michael Kusalaba, Poland, Struthers and Tri-Lakes libraries will join the four which opened on July 13: Newport, Brownlee Woods, Sebring and Springfield branches.

Three libraries will remain unavailable for the time being - Main Library, Greenford and Campbell. The Main Library staff is creating a reduced-service area which will serve patrons during the renovation construction. Greenford Library is too small for adequate social distancing. And the Campbell Library will be available once the CLWCC (Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center), where it will be located, has opened to the public.

Library Executive Director Aimee Fifarek said, “We are so pleased to be able to welcome our patrons into our libraries throughout the county and bring back a very popular service, browsing our collection. We are asking the public to have patience during the days leading up to August 3, as this transition period may lead to some delays with phone service or curbside pickup. Our staff is gearing up to provide service and they are letting us know that they have missed being able to help our patrons with their library needs.”

Masks Required Per Governor DeWine’s Order Masks or cloth face coverings

must be worn by those using the library, including children 6 years of age and older. The Library will have masks available at no charge for those who need one. Staff will be wearing masks. Those patrons with a medical reason they cannot wear a mask or cloth face shield are advised to phone the Library in advance to talk with staff about how their library needs can be met. Libraries that are open will have

safety measures in place, such as social distancing and shields of plexiglass or similar material, spacing between computers, and reduced capacities. Services like meeting room use, lounging and reading areas, and in-library programming are still not available. The Library is reserving the first

open hour at each location each day for our senior patrons age 65 and over, as well as vulnerable patrons of any age with underlying health conditions. For in-library service, children 7 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 18 years of age or older.Tri-Lakes: ................ 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Mon.-Thurs. and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Fri. and Sat........ capacity 25* Please note that the first hour each day is

reserved for seniors or those who are vulnerable due to underlying health condition. On August 1, Libraries Will Be

Unavailable as Computer System is Upgraded Ms. Fifarek noted that on Saturday,

August 1, the four libraries currently providing service (Newport, Brownlee Woods, Sebring and Springfield branches) will be closed for one day as the Library’s Internet provider is performing an upgrade and libraries will not have Internet, computer or phone access. These libraries will reopen on their next scheduled day.

BERLIN TWP. BERLIN TWP TRUSTEESSubmitted by Jodi Kale, Berlin Twp Trustee

MEETINGS WILL CONTINUE TO BE HELD ONLINE due to the ongoing COVID 19 crisis. The public is invited to access the online meetings at GoToMeeting.com and details to access are and have been available on the sign board at the Weidenmier House every month. Meetings will continue to be held online due to COVID 19 regulations and until the board feels it is safe for public meetings to be held in person.

SANDIE ENGLE BROWN, retired township Trustee, passed away on May 19, 2020. Sandie served Berlin Township as a trustee for over 20 years. We are deeply saddened by her passing and she will be sorely missed by many. Our thoughts are with Sandie’s family.

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE scheduled for May 24, 2020 was regrettably cancelled because of the Governor’s crowd restrictions due to the pandemic. The board instead paid tribute to fallen heroes by resurrecting a display in the War Memorial across the street from the fire department in lieu of the traditional ceremony. The display will remain erected throughout the summer.

received certification that the Resolution to enact additional $5.00 Permissive License Tax has been received at the State Department of Taxation and this additional sum is to begin being levied in January 2021.

MEMORIAL TREE GARDEN dedication ceremony typically held in August has been postponed. Those names inscribed for 2020 will be included with the 2021 dedication ceremony.

TRASH/APPLIANCE COLLECTION DRIVE will be held at a date yet to be determined in September. NO TIRES/ELECTRONICS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Landfill items will be accepted from BERLIN TWP residents ONLY. Due to Electronics Drives taking place in several other townships, Berlin Twp will not be accepting Electronics this year-please check the Green Team website : www.greenteam.cc for available electronic drives in other townships in the county. To save costs, drop off remains as SELF SERVE-therefore, no employees will be on hand to unload items. Surveillance cameras monitor

the premises 24 hours a day.

THANK YOU FIRST RESPONDERS- The board would like to continue to thank Berlin Township Volunteers, as well as all First Responders, for their bravery and courage continuing to provide service to our communities during this pandemic. Our volunteers are strictly enforcing protocol and procedures with personal protective equipment for the safety of not only themselves, but also the patients for whom they are providing service. We commend them for being prepared so that services to residents have remained consistent and uninterrupted during this ongoing situation.

SAFETY ON THE ROADS- With warmer weather upon us, please use extreme caution and pay attention for road workers, bikers, pedestrians, etc. Be alert-safety is a priority.

RECYCLING bins are located behind the fire station. Please recycle responsibly by leaving only those items allowed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

NEXT MEETING will be held MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 2020 at 7:00 pm. All are welcomed to attend.

HAVE A HEALTHY AND SAFE SUMMER!
