Noel Jones has been an LSA member for only a year, but…..he has an interesting non-locksmith background. Here are a few questions with his responses: Q: Are you a native of the Detroit area? A: Yes. I grew up in Belleville where I still reside with my wife and two children. Q: What jumpstarted your interest in becoming a locksmith? A: I worked several jobs in the Auto Industry, and being put on the non-payroll time after time was a drag. The uncertainty of the economy these past several years drove me to seek another career. Q: Have you had any locksmith classes? A: I took a Foley-Belsaw correspondence course and some LSA sponsored classes. I am presently registered for L.S.I. for July, 2013. Also I attended Henry Ford and Schoolcraft Colleges. I took several classes in auto machinists and electrical engineering. I also had other classes in other skilled trades. I feel like a “redshirted” Locksmith! Q: What interested you about locksmithing? A: My interest came by way of the many courses I took. Now, I really want to know the way the locks are manufactured, how they work and what does it take to keep them in good work- ing order! Q: Are you presently working other than locksmithing? A: Yes, I am a full time employee for the C. V. Richard-Ellis Co. I work in the shipping/ receiving department. I would like to be there long enough to get my locksmith business up and running to a point where I can sup- port my family. Now, fellow L.S.A .friends, I urge us all to help Noel when and where we can! LSA R EPORTER VOLUME 26, NO. 5 EDITORS: William M. PUBLIC RELATIONS—JOHN HUBEL, CML

Thank you to the many companies and individuals who had items placed on the Santa Table for the December LSA Christmas dinner party. Phil Sutherland from Howard Safe donated hundreds of dollars in safe locks which made quite of few LSA members pretty happy. IDN-Hardware Sales made sure someone received the product of their choice by using their gift card. Our own members donated products for locksmith resale. MPT submit-ted a few cleaning and polishing products. Penetrating lubricants were popular. ClearStar members also got involved and supplied product. A few items slipped onto the table without notice and still some gave anonymously. Everyone received an LED flashlight and many

received a first aid kit, compliments of ADI. A rumor was floating around that a few members still got coal in their stocking. I guess ya gotta be good!

PRESIDENTIAL PENNINGS—RAY SINAI, CML

As President of LSA, I hope that you all had a safe and happy holiday sea-son. We had such a mild winter last year that I think many of us doubted that we would experience the cold again. Those of us in the Metro Detroit area had a re-minder of what cold weather and snow feels like. At the upcoming January meeting, we will be visited by Paul Bockert of Bockert & Associates. Paul will be presenting Marks USA, one of the many hard-ware lines that he represents. We will also have some members presenting vari-ous topics of interest. Also, we will be hosting a Wafer Reading class with Robert Sieveking on January 12th. Hope you have signed up (visit our website for details). If you missed our December meeting/dinner, you really missed out. The door prizes were in abundance and every person in attendance received a flashlight and a first aid kit. I must mention the wonderful catered holiday dinner that was facili-tated by our own Aaron Rogers. Thank you so much Aaron. The food was deli-cious and no one went away hungry. If you have listened to the national news at all, the big story is the United States economy and the upcoming “Fiscal Cliff”. We are being told that the stock market will tumble, our taxes will rise, and even the price of milk will go up dramati-cally. They say if you are a small business owner, hold on to your hats. Frankly, I have been hearing this kind of “bad news” since the day I began my business. The naysayers will always be thrilled to tell you that horrible times are in our future. The Mayan disaster now has a new storyline. Y2K was now thir-teen years ago and we all seemed to come through that just fine. I remember starting my business and people telling me that it couldn’t be done or I couldn’t make a living “picking locks and opening cars”. Sorry naysayers, I plan on having a fantastic year in 2013. On a sad note, one of our local associates at IDN –Hardware Sales, Livonia has passed away. John Kress was just short of his 51st birthday when he left us. Although I had known John for a number of years, I hadn’t realized that he was with IDN for a total of 23 years. John was a member of the IT team at IDN and a real team player. John will be missed by many. Happy New Year to all and I hope to see many of you at our next meeting on January 10th.

PAGE 6 VOLUME 26, NO. 5 The Locksmith Security Association of Michigan

Many years ago on a Farmer’s land there was an old dried up well. With many other chores to tend to the farmer simply laid some wooden planks across the top of the well and forgot about it. Years went by and grass and other foliage covered the wood. One day as the Farmer’s mule was grazing, he re-discovered the well. The wood had rotted over time and the mule fell down the well. Finding the missing mule down the abandoned well, the Farmer was

perplexed. How was he to save the mule and bring it up from the deep well? He couldn’t climb down the well himself and retrieve the mule. He had no equipment to strap to the mule to pull the mule up. Asking the townspeo-ple their opinions, no one had a solution to save the mule. The best idea was an unfortu-nate one; put the mule out of its misery and fill the well with dirt. At least this would be the last poor creature to lose its life.

With many of the townspeople supporting his efforts, they threw shovelful by shovelful of dirt down the well. As the dirt landed on the mule’s back, the mule shook it off and took a step up. This process continued, the dirt came down, the mule shook it off and took another step up. The townspeople were amazed to see the mule’s reaction to this. At the end of the day, the mule had stepped up to ground level and was rescued! What a miracle! The moral of the story…. “We all have downfalls and we all have dirt thrown upon us, but just remember to “shake it off and step up to the challenge”. You, too, will get to the TOP! It just takes a lot of work!
