RANSON, W.Va. – University Healthcare Jefferson Medical Center’s
Food/Nutritional/Environmental Services Director Don Breon and Di-
etician Carolyn Sagle have been awarded Sodexo Health Care’s CA-
RES Award for “Enhancing the Patient/Resident Experience”.
Sodexo, an organization that provides food and facilities management
services to hospitals across the country, manages the environmental
and food/nutrition services at Jefferson Medical Center. Breon and
Sagle were selected among staff in hundreds of hospitals in Sodexo’s
North East Division.“This recognition was long overdue for Don and
Carolyn, but would not have been possible without the support and
partnership that we have with University Healthcare.,” stated Joseph S.
Smith, district manager for Sodexo. “Jefferson Medical Center leadership allows Don and Carolyn to do
what they do best,” he added. The CARES Award for Patient/Resident Experience recognizes the individ-
ual or team that best demonstrates Sodexo’s “Patients/Residents are the Heart of Everything we Do” phi-
losophy by providing personalized and caring service to all patients, family members, employees, visitors
and caregivers. In October, Jefferson Medical Center’s inpatient satisfaction scores for “cleanliness of hos-
pital environment” were ranked at the 99 percentile. This ranking includes approximately 1800 hospitals
throughout the United States that are included in the Press Ganey database. “Don, Carolyn and the entire
Food/Nutritional/Environmental Services team at Jefferson Medical Center do an outstanding job,” stated
Christina DeRosa, PhD, president and chief operating officer. “We are fortunate to have exceptional lead-
ership in these departments and congratulate Don and Carolyn for recognition that is well deserved.”
INWOOD, W.Va. – University Healthcare and University
Healthcare Physician officials gathered on Wednesday with
representatives from the Berkeley County Council and the
Chamber of Commerce of Martinsburg and Berkeley
County to celebrate the official opening of Inwood Medical
and WVU Urgent Care. Inwood Medical, a 10,000 square
foot building located on Route 51 (Gerrardstown Road) in
Inwood, opened in 2012. Approximately 5,000 square feet
of the one-story medical building houses Inwood Family
Medicine and the new Urgent Care which opened in late
October. According to Anthony Zelenka, president and chief
operating officer at Berkeley Medical Center, the hospital
moved its sleep lab to Inwood in August and opened a satellite office for rehabilitation and wellness ser-
vices in September. Inwood Neurology, the practice of Eduardo Zamora, MD, a board certified neurologist
at Berkeley Medical Center, is also located in the building. “We want to provide the residents of South
Berkeley County improved access to health services,” Zelenka commented. “With the recent service ex-
pansion, including the new urgent care, we are making these services more convenience for our patients in
the Inwood area.” Panhandle Builders and Excavating of Martinsburg was the contractor for Inwood Medi-
cal. The building and land is owned by the City Hospital Foundation, a member of University Healthcare.
