crossword & sudoku horoscope

Aries: 21st March - 20th AprilWith your Sun in Aries you are ruled by Mars, the planet of action and vitality. You are energetic and direct, with a strong sense of individuality; you enjoy a challenge and initiating action; you hate giving up and need to learn patience and moderation. You are

adventurous and enthusiastic. You need to achieve, to succeed in all of your aims, whether at work or socially, and can sometimes be selfi sh in attaining them. Lack of success affects you more than most people, and you are likely to become irritable and self-obsessed as a result.

Taurus: 21st April - 21st MayWith your Sun in Taurus you are ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. You are patient and determined, with a lusty physical appetite. You value stability and possessions and dislike upheaval and being rushed. You need to learn to be more

adaptable. You like to build a home in which you feel secure, and you prefer to work in a stable environment. You have strong aesthetic tastes and like to create beautiful surroundings. You have a methodical, decisive mind, but can be infl exible and reluctant to change.

Gemini: 22nd May - 21st JuneWith your Sun in Gemini you are ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and logic. You are alert and com-municative, with a ‘switchboard’ capacity for learning. Thriving on variety and novelty, you resent mental drudgery. You

need to learn the value of commitment. You have a talent for communication, and journalism wouldbe an ideal occupation for you. You tend to have a very quick intellect fi red by curiosity and a rational mind, andyour strong sense of logic enables you to grasp the elements of a situation or subject quickly.

Cancer: 22nd June - 22nd JulyWith your Sun in Cancer you are ruled by the Moon, the planet of feelings and receptivity. You are emotional and intuitive, with a strong sense of personal achievement. You love familiarity and dislike confrontation and emotional quagmires – you

need to learn to be less touchy. Kindness and caring are strong traits, and your instinct and intuition are sharp. If problems arise, you show natural courage and resolution in adversity.

Leo: 23rd July - 23rd AugustWith your Sun in Leo you are also ruled by the Sun, the planet of creativity and individuality. You are warm and generous with a fl air for dramatization – you positively fl ourish when you are centre stage. You dislike authority and being ignored, and need

to learn to soften your pride and accept criticism. You have the strongest creative urge of all the Sun signs, and this must be expressed either practically (such as gardening or dressmaking) or artistically (such as painting, composing music or writing). You are full of vitality and will be frustrated and unhappy if unable to express your creativity.

Virgo: 23rd August - 22nd SeptemberWith your Sun in Virgo you are ruled by Mercury, the planet of thinking and logic. You are conscientious and methodical with a fi ne eye for detail. You love to be of service and to create order and hate not ‘being in the know’ – you need to learn

self-worth and to trust your feelings. Talkative, lively and precise in conversation, you enjoy expressing yourself economically and clearly. Mostly practical, however you can be overwhelmed with fi ne detail and tend to over-analyze a situation.

Libra: 23rd September - 23rd OctoberWith your Sun in Libra you are ruled by Venus, the planet of peace and co-operation. You are gregarious and considerate with a strong social sense. Yearning to please and be pleased, you recoil from injustice and disharmony – you therefore need to

learn to handle confl ict fi rmly. Procrastination comes naturally to you because you have the ability to see every point of view, and dislike taking sides in an argument. Although you have considerable physical energy, you can sometimes be accused of laziness – often because you choose to relax and take time to listen to the problems of friends and family

Scorpio: 24th October - 22nd NovemberWith your Sun in Scorpio you are ruled by Pluto, the planet of compulsion and transformation. You are strongwilled and self-contained with a talent for probing. Prizing loyalty and total involvement, you deplore indifference and superfi ciality - you

need to learn to be more open. Scorpios are regularly accused of being obsessively interested in sex. This arises from the fact that Scorpio rules the genitals. Many Scorpios express their sexual energy through sport and work. It is vital for their abundant energy to be positively used. You are capable of very deep and systematic thought and can get to the root of a problem

Sagittarius: 23rd November - 21st DecemberWith your Sun in Sagittarius you are ruled by Jupiter, the planet of luck and joviality. You are optimistic and sincere with an insatiable thirst for exploration. Cherishing freedom and aiming high, you hate detail and hypocrisy – you need to learn to be

more disciplined. Your enthusiasm can often lead to risk-taking and foolhardiness - you will therefore need to govern, if not curb, your ardor. Your tendency to move swiftly from one task to another is a useful quality, but there can be a tendency to do too many things at once. You have great breadth of vision but often fi nd details boring.

Capricorn: 22nd December - 20th JanuaryWith your Sun in Capricorn you are ruled by Saturn, the planet of caution and restraint. You are resourceful and persevering with a strong sense of duty. You believe fervently in tradition and order and therefore distrust the untried and untested – you

also need to learn compassion. You can be a slave to convention, always concerned to be seen to do the right thing, what often saves you is a captivating sense of humor, which can take over even at the most serious moments, disarming anyone who is about to give up on you. If you can be persuaded to relax and break out in some way, a lighter side of your personality will emerge.

Aquarius: 21st January - 18th FebruaryWith your Sun in Aquarius you are ruled by Uranus, the planet of innovation and altruism. You are companionable and quirky with a strong humanitarian streak. You love originality and independence and shun practicalities; you need to learn to accept

‘dark side’ of emotions. You are likeable and open, and always ready to be supportive to friends - highly conscious of the needs of others; you will help whenever you can. You need to express your originality in order to feel fulfi lled.

Pisces: 19th February - 20th MarchWith your Sun in Pisces you are ruled by Neptune, the planet of intuition and mystery. You are sympathetic and impres-sionable with a powerful imagination. You value giving, escaping and mystery, and resent drab reality and suffering - you

need to learn to be less self-pitying. You are one of the most compassionate and kindly people, often giving more time to the problems of others than you allow for consideration of your own. Your imagination when positively expressed is an enormous asset, but you must learn not to allow your imagination to work negatively, magnifying small problems into major ones. You can tend to lie to yourself and others, rather than face harsh reality.

Give Your Cat a Place to Climb, Scratch, and Sleep!

maneuvering quickly up and down the plat-forms and in and out of the hideaways on a cat tree. They provide an ideal solution to a cat’s innate need for a lofty throne.

SWEAT DREAMSIt is estimated that cats spend over 60%

of their time each day sleeping or resting; therefore, lounging and sleeping spots are essential. In multiple-cat households, these spots also help minimize social stress and provide a respite from quarrels – presuming there is a special spot available for each cat. The enclosed hideaway on a cat tree is the ideal napping spot away from the dog, other cats, or the children. Most cat trees have fl eece or carpeting inner lining to keep cats cozy and warm.

SCRATCH FERVORCat trees can be instrumental in redirect-

ing inappropriate scratching. Scratching is a necessary cat behavior, but doesn’t have to be tolerated on your furniture. Most cat trees have at least one sisal post built in. With durable 3/8” thick braided jute, they stand up to intense scratching and last a

The particular perch, prey, scratcher, or cubby your cat chooses is up to you. Ap-

propriate environmental outlets encourage normal, healthy cat behavior while reduc-ing the stress (and resulting inappropriate behavior) of sharing their environment with humans and other pets. A cat tree can help satisfy many basic feline needs in a single, space-saving unit.

HEIGHT MATTERSSpurred by a need to watch over house-

hold goings-on, look for prey, and feel se-cure, your cat chooses the elevated lookout offered by the fi replace mantle, the top of the refrigerator, or countertops when given no other perching choices.

Carpeted, fl oor-to-ceiling cat trees provide a secure, durable pathway to the highest domain in your home while keeping your cat off surfaces where you display break-ables or prepare food. They also place your cat where much of the heat in your home ends up – near the ceiling – and cats love to be where it is warm. If you can locate it near a window, even better.

Unless arthritic, most cats have no problem

long, long time. To train a cat to use the sisal, place her on her hind legs, and gently work her front paws in a pawing motion on the sisal. She’ll catch on quickly.

Space-saving and Versatile Playground De-signed with a very small footprint, a cat tree occupies less than a couple square feet of your fl oor space, yet gives many square feet of ele-vated perching space – ideal for smaller homes or for setting up multiple cat trees.

Easy assembly means you can re-locate your cat tree whenever you wish to change the scenery for your cat.

PREY PLAYHunting prey is an vital stealthy behav-

ior, consuming almost 15% of a cat’s day. Modifying your environment with appropri-ate prey toys can help prevent your legs, hands, or other objects in your home from becoming the target of your cat’s hunting sessions. Hang swat toys or dangling toys from doorknobs, chair legs, or even a cat tree. Watch amusingly as multiple cats vie for a turn at the swat toy on a cat tree.

Your cat’s environment is important to her wellness and behavior. The next time you chase her away from one of your household possessions, take inventory of her alterna-tives. It may be time to offer something new.

There is never a way of knowing when the right time to buy is, but

you can make an educated guess that may help you capitalize on the current market. What we do know is that the current market conditions are great; with prices being suppressed and interest rates at all time lows, it makes for a great time to purchase a home. However, the window of opportunity is starting to get smaller.

Prices StabilizedMany economists fi rmly believe that home prices have stabilized in Los An-geles County, and that the foreseeable future holds little increase in values, but interest rates will soon start to rise and this will have an impact on your ability to buy your dream home.

Decrease in buying powerA 1% increase in interest rates will decrease your buying power as much as 15% to have the samemonthly principal and interest payment. Interest rates are approximately 5.00%

current market conditions. Some of the most typical concerns for most consum-ers are whether they will overpay for a house and whether the price of their home will actually drop over the next

several years. If you’re comfort-able with the idea of taking a bit of risk; however, now might actu-ally be the best time to purchase a home. One of the best benefi ts of

purchasing a home right now is the fact that prices are lower in many markets than they were just a few years ago. As a result, if you found that a home in a particular market was unaffordable just a couple of years ago you may now be able to afford that very home.

on a 30 year fi xed rate loan and are headed up. If they reach 6.50%, as some economists forecast by end of 2010, you could be waiting yourself out of that dream home. For example, if you bought a house and obtain a loan for $600,000 right now, your monthly payment could be the same as a $510,000 loan if you bought at the end of the year. As you can see, a 15% decrease in loan amount will have an impact on your purchase power. It may take you out of th e area you are plan-ning to buy in. wheels & deals… auto sales & repairs

How to Select an Auto Repair ShopGetting your car repaired can be a

really stressful situation because most of us don’t know much about the inner work-ings of the automobiles we drive everyday. When it comes time to get your car fi xed make sure to follow the advice below.

Plan aheadBeing proactive and fi nding a good shop before you actually need any re-pairs done will prevent you from making a rushed (and possibly bad) decision. Know as much as you can about how your vehicle works and how to identify common car problems. Make sure the shop is neat and organized When you get to the shop, look around to make sure it is neat, well organized and has professional staffs that are willing to answer your questions. Also check to see whether or not they use new or used auto parts. Using Recycled Auto Parts is a great way to save money and the environment.

Ask about experienceNot all cars or brands are made equally, so ensuring that the shop has experience

of time or money. If the labor time on your fi nal bill is way off from the initial estimate, fi nd out why.

Read the fi ne printWhen you get an estimate, make sure it is signed and that you read it over in detail (including the fi ne print so that there are no surprises after the work is done. The estimate should identify what is being repaired, parts and anticipated labor charges.

Watch for red fl agsA red fl ag that the repair shop you’re checking out is not a good option is whether or not there are cars in the ga-rage being worked on and cars waiting in the parking lot to be brought in. If the shop is like a ghost town, you probably don’t want to go there. They might get your car in right away, but there’s prob-ably a reason they’re not popular so do your research beforehand. The better auto repair shops will likely have cars waiting for repairs or customers picking up their cars. Another red fl ag is when you walk in and customers are arguing with the staff and clearly unsatisfi ed.

working on the same make or model vehicle as yours is a good idea. Ask the service writer or auto mechanic about the staff’s experience with your car’s particular make and model. Some repair shops are highly qualifi ed on certain types of cars, but don’t have much experience on others.

Find out how the pricing worksA shop can charge a fl at rate per hour for labor on car repairs based on an independent or manufacturer’s estimate of how long it takes to complete the repairs. Some repair shops charge a fl at rate for labor based on industry stan-dards of the time required to complete that auto repair. Others charge based on the actual time the technician worked on the repair. Which is better? It depends on what you’re getting done. Always get a written estimate before having any repairs performed on your car. This estimate should identify the problem to be repaired, the parts needed, and the anticipated labor charge. The estimate should also specify that the shop will contact you for approval before they do any work exceeding a specifi ed amount
