I am very pleased to be your interim pastor for the next five months or so. I am sure that we will work together well, and accomplish much.

By way of background, I am a Chicago native, but have lived in many different places, both when I was growing up, and since my ordination. I went through high school in Indianapolis, college at Indiana University, and seminary at the Presbyterian seminary in Louisville. I was ordained in the Presbyterian church in June of 1977, and served in Presbyterian churches as pastor for 18 years, in Kentucky, Indiana, and two places in Illinois. In 1995, I was appointed to the Methodist Church in Waterman, Illinois, where I stayed ten years. I transferred into the United Methodist Church in 2001, and that was one of the best decisions I ever made. Since then, I have served in Orangeville, Hamp-shire, and Davis/Rock City, for a total of twenty-one years in this conference, retiring last year.

My wife and I have been married for almost thirty-one years. We met in a Methodist singles group in Paducah, Kentucky in 1985. She has worked as a Director of Christian Education in various churches, including nine years at First Methodist in Downers Grove. Earlier this year she retired as an elementary school music teacher in the Rockford school district, and is currently the President of the Rockford District United Methodist Women.

My outside interests are philosophy, Christian Origins, and history, particularly the Civil War. I enjoy reading, writing, and traveling and love to be a passenger in an airplane.

I am confident that we can be a joyous and caring witness to our Lord in the future in Savanna and in the world. I can not think of anything else that this land and world needs more that an opti-mistic, loving, and positive example of how good life can be.

Faithfully,

James A. Ketzel

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SAVANNA ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL

Sunday, June 19, 2016 10:45am

Chairperson Burt Dauphin called the meeting to order with 11 members present.

Peg Dauphin opened the meeting with prayer.

A motion was made by John LeComte and seconded by Paul Mayer that the minutes from

the previous meeting be approved and the motion carried.

Vivian Eaton presented the financial statement and a motion was made by Kathie Prins and

seconded by Paul Mayer to accept it and the motion carried.

TRUSTEES: Paul reported the Jang family will be moving our of the parsonage on June

29,2016 and we will start cleaning it on July 1st. He will ask members of the congregation to

volunteer for different projects according to their schedules and abilities. He will have keys

available. He made a motion, seconded by LaVona Grissinger, to purchase our hymnal CD col-

lection for $360.00 and the motion passed.

STAFF PARISH RELATIONS: LaVona is meeting with our district superintendent Lisa Kruse-

Safford tomorrow and she asked several members to meet at the parsonage for a walk-

through. She asked about raising the fee for fill-in pastors to $100 and will take this sugges-

tion back to her committee.

STEWARDSHIP/ FINANCE: Randy Bonjour is still working with the insurance company on our

embezzlement claim. There is a question about the employee theft coverage and when our

policies were in effect.

OUTREACH: Jason Moore and his committee will be helping with the Shoes for Hope pro-

gram on August 6, 2016, serving hot dogs.

NEW BUSINESS: John LeComte made a motion, seconded by Kathie Prins, to place an ad in

the West Carroll athletic programs for $150 and the motion carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:24am.

Respectfully Submitted,

Molly Andersen, recording secretary

Finance Committee Announcement

Although the Finance Committee work is not finished, I have declared the bulk of the review-ing and adjusting to be in our past. We accepted $141K and have a possible claim with State Farm. State Farm was our insurance company before our current carrier.

The committee met weekly from September to December 2015. Then two times a month un-til May 2016. John LeComte was excellent counsel and kept our meeting minutes. I called him every day for months as we sorted through our claim.

Paul Mayer held the record for calls from me in a day. Five! Five phone calls in a day speaks to the ground we had to cover to make our claim. Paul devised and implemented the new money counting procedure.

Vivian Eaton became the committee's accountant. One Friday afternoon we were redrafting a letter to the insurance company. I'll admit to having one of those self-absorbed moments, thinking only of myself. Wishing I was doing something else I said, "I have 250 hours in on this project." It was a wake up call for me as to how dedicated and willing to put in the time John, Paul, and Vivian have been while serving on the Finance Committee during these unu-sual times.
