FIELDHOME - In celebration of their historic founding125 years ago, The Field Library, Peekskill, NY andThe Catharine Field Home, Cortlandt Manor, NY arepleased to announce the donation by the CatharineField Home board trustees of a unique cataloguedcollection of historic documents about the residentsof Field Home from 1887 through 1987.

Both Field Home and The Field Library were foundedin 1887 as gifts to the Peekskill community by theField family. At the time, Peekskill had several smallsubscription libraries located throughout the villagebut no central library, nor a home for the aged.

Many of the residents of Field Home came from thesurrounding areas. Contained in these files are resi-dent histories, as well as, records of an importantHudson Valley institution. The resident records aregenealogical and family history treasures of theseWestchester women. Many lived until their deaths atField Home. Beginning last May, two archivists wereemployed to catalog the paperwork for the 400women who were residents at Field Home from 1887to 1987.

Preserving and continuing its historic mission to pro-vide high quality care to the elderly, Field Home hasbegun marketing a new independent living facility,Stone Ridge at Fieldhome. The original building willbe reduced to one wing to make way for new hous-ing to meet contemporary standards. The interior ofthe neo-classical building will undergo upgrades butmaintain its familiar facade.

Members of the Field family gathered last June tocelebrate their 250th anniversary in WestchesterCounty. They visited The Field Library and The FieldHome to celebrate the 125th anniversaryof bothinstitutions.

The Field Library will soon make the materials acces-sible on-line to the public. For more information onThe Field Library Local History Collection, the ColinT. Naylor, Jr. Archives, contact Kim Stucko at 914-737-5499. For more information on Fieldhome, contactPatti Horvath at 914-739-2244 or email her at [email protected]
