ARCHITECTS COX RAYNER
TO VISIT WINTON
The architects for the reconstruction of the Waltzing Matilda Centre will be in Winton on 27th, 28th and 29th April to talk to the community about what they are looking for from the new Centre and how it will look.
Times will be organised for specific stakeholder groups, as well as the general community to provide direct input into the design.
Winton Shire Council appointed Cox Rayner at its Council meeting on 7th April 2016 following an exhaustive selection process that included: Calling Expressions of Interest from across Australia; and Requests for tenders from five short-listed firms. The Mayor and Project Managers attended a pre-start meeting with the architects in Brisbane last week to finalise arrangements. All members of the community are invited to provide feedback directly to the architects when they visit. Tom Upton Chief Executive Officer

COMMUNITY NEWS
At the invitation of the staff from the Neighbour Centre and Central West Community Options approximately thirty people gathered at the Neighbourhood Centre last Friday for a gardening talk and morning tea. Interesting sheets with information on various plants were handed out. Two lucky door prizes were won by Tina Elliott and Joanne Baskett.
There was a discussion regarding the possibility of forming a Gardening Club, with members visiting gardens both in town and out. Caroline Sciascia from the Neighbourhood Centre said the aim was to let people know what plants grow well locally and get people talking and interacting with one another. She invited anyone with any enquires to call the Neighbourhood centre. The next meeting is 13th May.

COMMUNITY NEWS
iPads, smart phones, cameras, music and dancing were the order of the day as senior residents from the over 60’s club took part in the first stage of Crossroad Arts TRAILBLAZE community dance, music and film project in Winton last week.
81 year old local Stephanie Greenwood, whose musical tastes range from Garth Brooks to Black Sabbath, said she hadn’t had so much fun in weeks.
Loretta Searle begins her warm up with 20 laps of the Winton pool before venturing down to the dance workshops at the Council Hall at 9am to take part in line dancing, chair dancing and contemporary improvisational dance. “Some of it is quite challenging,” said Loretta. “But I’m up for that!”
The challenges took a new direction in the afternoon session as participants learnt to navigate their way through smart phones and tablets, turning photographs into moving pictures and putting a story to it.
Bronwyn Searle, the new co-ordinator of 60 & Better said she didn’t realise her smart phone was capable of these things. “I love these new apps,” she said.
Crossroad Arts director, Steve Mayer-Miller, said the project was a celebration of dance as a way of connecting people and following their life journeys using creative movement and the latest digital technology. “What I love about this group is their willingness to try new things, no matter how challenging it may first seem.” The second stage of the project begins on Monday June 6th when Mackay film maker Steve Mayer-Miller and Brisbane dancer Clare Apelt return to Winton to help put the finishing touches to a public performance by the over 60’s at the Winton Council Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday 11th June.

Your Anger Is Doing Damage 'Do not be quickly provoked.' Ecclesiastes 7:9 NIV
Angry outbursts are destructive in all relationships, especially in your home. Children are the most vulnerable to parental anger, and they mirror their parents’ behavior. We shape our children’s destiny by our words, behaviors and attitudes, and if they’re raised in a home that’s consistently high-volume, they’ll react similarly. Your outbursts are training your children to be hysterical and violent. Soon everyone will be overreacting, flying into fits of rage and attacking one another. When you exhibit tantrum-like behavior, you’re acting out of a selfish need to get what you want, when you want it, in the way you think you ought to have it. Please—for your family’s sake—start acting like an adult; exhibit self-control. ‘Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.’ (Hebrews 6:12 NKJV) Notice, you must have faith and patience. You may not be able to control what happens in life, but you can certainly control your reaction. Whether it’s the anger a father brings home from the work-place, or a wife’s anger towards her husband, it can bring a curse. Simeon and Levi harbored anger in their hearts and became vicious and vindictive murderers. Because of this, a curse came upon them, and the anger was passed down from generation to generation (see Genesis 49). You must break the curse by resisting the temptation to let anger dictate your behavior. In the words of James: ‘My dear brothers, take note… Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.’ (James 1:19–20 NIV)
