Who We Are… Liberty Road Faith Fellowship is a Multi-denominational gathering of Christians who enjoy traditional worship services.

Where to Find Us… We worship at 2734 Liberty Road. You can find us on the web at http://libertyroadfaithfellowship.org

We Gather for Fellowship

Coffee/Donut Fellowship Time: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. in room 6, AKA, “The Donut Room” or “Hospitality Room.” Thank you for helping us keep our church clean and tidy by keeping all the food and beverages in room 6 on Sunday mornings. If you need to take

A Word from the Pastor Rev. Lisa V. Wood

Being the scholar and theologian I

am, one of my favorite movies is

“Because of Winn Dixie.” Winn

Dixie is a scruffy old dog who finds

his way into the hearts and lives of

people who have just about given up

on ever finding any happiness. Each

person has experienced some

heartbreaking loss and, rather than

finding consolation in community, they’ve chosen to isolate themselves and

carry their grief like boulders in a backpack. The despair is so prevalent that

one character laments, “…I believe, sometimes, that the whole world has an

aching heart.”

Fortunately for the townsfolk – and the movie goers – Winn Dixie bursts onto

the scene with antics that bring lonely and hurting people together in ways that

are healing and helpful. Residents begin to see each other in a new light and

with new understanding of why they behave the way they do. (Even the

preacher learns a thing or two about what truly matters in life.) Yes, there are

tears, but there is also mirthful laughter. And it’s all “…because of Winn

Dixie.”

Someone once said that laughter is like a spiritual GPS system for the soul. If

we can laugh at ourselves, we can forgive ourselves; and if we can forgive

ourselves, we can forgive each other. Laughter soothes our aching hearts, if

only for a little while. It grounds us in a place where we can hope and find

intimacy in our relationships with each other and with God.

Theologian Conrad Hyers wrote, “Faith without laughter leads to dogma, and

laughter without faith leads to despair.”

Children’s Church: 11:15 a.m. In room 5.

Our Nursery is in room 2.

I hope you allow yourself to laugh this week – not just because you see

something funny, but because you notice two people holding hands, or

someone opening the door for another person, or a child’s giggles at his

mother making funny faces… or a dog’s wagging tail and the wild, wonderful

licking of your face in sheer delight of just being yours. God, in his wisdom

and pleasure, designed us to embrace the sacredness of laughter. So laugh out

loud – in sheer delight in being a child of God.

Blessings of peace,

Thank You! By Ronda May Fiegenbaum

There are people in our lives who are so genuinely kindhearted… …appreciating them just comes naturally.

Words can’t express how truly grateful I am for your prayers and visits

to the hospital. I know that God used you all to lift me up and help me

to get through some very difficult times. Thank you for bringing food

and continuing to keep me in your prayers and on the prayer list. I am

even more grateful that my Mom and Dad have such a wonderful

church family that surrounds them and blesses them each day. You all

represent the hands and feet of God and I have been so touched by you.

Thank you again for loving me and caring so much.

We will collect nonperishable items again during the month of January

to help replenish the local food pantry. Please check your pantry

shelves and maybe donate some of those items you didn’t use during the

holidays. (Be sure to check expiration dates.) We will collect them until

the SOUPer BOWL event on February 2. If you want to purchase

items, please buy cans of soup. There is a bin set up in the foyer to

place your donations. (Thank you, Joanne Fortson and Rachel Jones for

dressing up the bin with cheerful a red and white checked tablecloth,

which is much more appealing to the eye.)

Iran, Iraq, and the Bible…

Last week on January 14, Dr. Joanne Fortson taught about what the Bible has to say about the countries of Iran and Iraq. There were about 20 people in attendance. I was not able to attend, but I looked over the handout that Joanne provided

and thought it was interesting that Iraq is called, “The Cradle of Civilization” and that scholars agree that other than Israel, there is no other area that plays a greater role in biblical history nor is named more in biblical prophecy.

That and a lot of other interesting information was given by Joanne.

Joanne wrote adult missions education curriculum for the North American Mission Board and was the editor of the R.A. (Royal Ambassador) materials for a while. She also wrote children's Sunday School and adult discipleship training curriculum for Lifeway Christian Resources, wrote missions education curriculum for WMU (Woman's Missionary Union) and was the editor of Missions Mosaic magazine and other adult mission activity publications for 6 years. Also, for 5 years she designed the content and was the managing editor of the week-long studies that went with the Lottie Moon Missions Christmas offering for the North American Mission Board and the Annie Armstrong Easter offering for the International Mission Board. In all, she had about 200 pieces that she wrote published, not counting the publications of which she was the editor.
