Specialized Vascular Services: Radiofrequency (RF) Endovenous Ablation and Sclerotherapy

Varicose veins affect about half of the adult U.S. population. If you have patients who suffer from varicose veins, remember that Northern Arizona Radiology offers specialized services for varicose and spider veins. Using VNUS ClosureFAST™ technology, NAR’s radiologists perform radiofrequency (RF) endovenous ablation on incompetent veins as well as sclerotherapy procedures for smaller veins. These minimally invasive procedures are now routinely performed at our center with considerably less pain and lower cost than traditional surgical vein removal. Contact us to learn more about our expertise in treating cosmetic or more complex vascular insufficiency problems. If either RF ablation or sclerotherapy are performed to address physical symptoms, we can help your patient determine insurance coverage.

Radiologist Stephen V. Ward, M.D., has been with Northern Arizona Radiology since 1993 and performs general radiology with a specialty in vascular and interventional radiology.

Dr. Ward is particularly interested in helping patients through non-surgical intervention of varicose veins to relieve pain and cryoablation therapy for renal cell carcinomas to spare patients from undergoing surgery and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Ward received his medical degree and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He worked at several Georgia medical centers prior to moving to Arizona. Dr. Ward is currently president of Northern Arizona Radiology and has been in northern Arizona for more than 20 years. He loves the outdoors and the people and lifestyle of northern Arizona.

As a staff radiologist at Flagstaff Medical Center, Dr. Ward is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. NAR physicians, including Dr. Ward, provide their services at both the hospital and in their own outpatient imaging facility in the adjacent physicians and surgeons building.

Ward is a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America.

Physician Spotlight: Stephen V. Ward, M.D. Q: How are you helping referring

physician offices understand what study to order and when?

A: Whatever your imaging needs, NAR’s professional staff is available to help determine which test to order and how.

To assist with proper coding, we have also developed an ICD-9 sheet with the most commonly ordered exams. Available upon request by calling 928-773-2515.
