Psychiatric presentations in general practice – A guide to holistic managementMost of us at mission hospitals have had the experience of handling patients who donot fit into any clear diagnoses, leading us to wonder if we had overlooked certainaspects to deduce it. Those with exposure to the discipline of Psychiatry may nothesitate to factor in other possibilities for the presenting symptoms, beyond theorganic illnesses that predominate in our differentials. Studies have shown that peopleare to this day, hesitant to visit a specialist psychiatric centre, more so in our context.Prof. K. S. Jacob and Prof. Anju Kuruvilla from Mental Health Centre, CMC Vellore, have thoughtfully presented simple guidelines to identify, assess and manage those

with psychiatric illness in their book for the use of General or Family practitioners, even for those who have dared towork as fresh medical graduates.A limited number of books from this edition are available for distribution to Mission Hospitals. Those interested may contact us at [email protected] furnishing details of the hospitals where they work.Note: Group orders from each hospital are preferred to individual requests, to ease the process of distribution.
