It is made up of freshwater lakes, papyrus swamps, woodlands and savannah plains that are home to around 500 species of birds, and over 12000 large mammals. Akagera is a Big 5 destination and is one of Africa’s most beautiful parks. ACCOMMODATION: You will be staying in a super luxury safari lodge located close to where the wildebeest populations are. As the migration moves throughout the year you will either be based in the Serengeti in Tanzania or in the Masai Mara in Kenya depending on the time of the year. HIGHLIGHTS: Aside from the big 5, the park’s lakes and swamps are the largest protected wetland in central Africa and is home to many rare species, such as the Sitagunga antelope, a swamp dweller.
