Message from Honda Malaysia
Last year was a remarkable year for us at Honda Malaysia as we each invested our energy and resources to recover from the aftermath of the Thailand flood. Our people have carried forward the spirit of “The Power of Dreams” from our founder and strived to recapture our sales momentum after a long supply halt. Their efforts have been nothing short of inspiring as we managed to produce record results with several new model launches.
The debut of the new Civic in July started an impressive upturn as we achieved an all-time sales record of 5,045 units in that month. It was also a successful year for our Hybrid line-up with the launch of the CR-Z CVT which helped us reach out to a broader market. Meanwhile, we became the first manufacturer in Malaysia to produce a Hybrid model with the Jazz Hybrid. Customers can soon expect a wider line-up of Hybrids as we continue to work closely with the government for Hybrid to take root in Malaysia.
I believe our challenging spirit will help us continue our momentum into 2013 and beyond, as we aim to achieve a market share of 10% this year and 15% by 2017. In order to accomplish this objective, we will be expanding our dealership network to cater to a broader community. We are also targeting to complete our second production line at the Melaka factory so that we can double our production capacity.
At Honda, we aim to create new values for our customers by providing reliable and enjoyable products with good quality, on top of delivering excellent purchase and after-sales experiences. “Time, Knowledge and Flexibility” are the key words that represent our vital ingredients in increasing our efficiency to our customers. We are confident that our concerted efforts will help us reach and maintain our goal.
2013 will be a very important milestone for us at Honda Malaysia as we set out to achieve our vision of leading the industry. Please join us in pursuing our dream.
Sincerely,
Yoichiro Ueno, Managing Director and CEO

Honda Malaysia has organised a total of eight Safety Driving Courses last year to further its commitment towards improving road safety. The driving courses, opened to all Honda customers, trained participants on both the theoretical and practical skills of safe driving in a Honda vehicle.
The lessons, conducted by Honda trainers, gave participants a deeper understanding of the car’s safety features such as the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), and also equipped them with practical tips on blind spots and blind area, tyre inspection and proper seating posture. Meanwhile, the hands-on approach by the trainers imparted techniques that help give drivers more confidence and better control of the car regardless of road conditions.
The Safety Driving Courses not only reaches out to Honda owners to increase their awareness on road safety but it also benefits a non-owner to be equipped with the same skills as each Honda customer is allowed to bring a guest to attend the course. According to the instructors, the Reaction Course, in particular, would influence a noticeable change in driving behaviours because they get to push the limits of the car and fully experience how the safety features work.
Honda Malaysia will continue to offer the Safety Driving Courses this year. Customers can look forward to grabbing a spot by logging on to www.honda.com.my/sales/honda_promotion for further updates.
Held throughout last year, Honda’s Safety Driving Courses allow owners to test the limits of their Honda in a safe and controlled environment.

Honda On Sustainability
Honda Motor Co., Ltd, together with the Japan Metals & Chemicals Co., Ltd., has since April 2012 started a mass-production process of extracting rare earth metals used in various Honda products. The newly established process is the world’s first recycling operation in rare earth metals, extracting more than 80% of rare earth metals in used nickel-metal hydride batteries, with purity as high as that of newly mined and refined metals. Rare earth is used in various parts in Honda products and is more commonly found in the nickel-metal hydride batteries used in Honda hybrid vehicles. The process of extracting the rare earth metals is done at a recycling plant by applying a heat treatment to used nickel-metal hydride batteries in a disassembly process.
In an ongoing effort to pursue the recycling of precious resources, Honda established a way to recycle rare earth metals in used parts.
are earTH recYcLing for Honda carSR
Every part is thoughtfully recycled for reusing, resulting in minimal wastage. The nickel-containing scrap is reused as a raw material of stainless steel while the extracted rare earth metals are reused not only for nickel-metal hydride batteries but also in a wide range of parts. Honda is currently researching ways to recover any residual voltage from the batteries to be reused as regenerative voltage during the disassembly process.
This initiative is part of Honda’s long-standing commitment to the 3R approach (reduce, reuse, recycle). With sustainable operations always top of mind, Honda will further increase recycling efforts and continue pursuing initiatives that will minimise its environmental footprint.

To kick off the new direction for 2013, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Yoichiro Ueno, unveiled the theme for the year which is “Time to Soar”, indicating that it will be a year of aggressive improvements in all areas towards future growth. In his speech at the convention, Mr. Ueno delivered a candid but encouraging message to the dealers, emphasising the importance of being innovative and aggressive on all fronts to build a stronger brand image together and solidify the business foundation to increase sales volume and market share.
Mr. Ueno also took the opportunity to divulge key activities and goals for the year, stating that production capacity is expected to reach 100,000 units annually with the expansion of the Melaka factory scheduled to be completed later this year.
“Honda Malaysia is aligning our focus with Honda Motor’s global strategy and strengthening our sales volume. The sales target for 2013 is 64,000 units with average sales of 5,300 units per month,” he said.
Honda Malaysia recently held its National Dealers Conference with representatives from all 60 dealerships nationwide attending the annual conference that aims to align the company’s vision and reward the dealers for their performance last year.
Tian Siang Auto (Manjung) Sdn. Bhd. was named Dealership of the Year, followed by Yong Ming Motor Sdn. Bhd., New Era Sales (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Macinda Auto Sdn. Bhd. who were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Qualifiers respectively. The winners were selected based on the highest scoring in customer satisfaction, performance and operations.
Following a challenging year, the company managed to close with the third highest all-time record of 4,800 units in December. The second half of 2012 was exceptionally strong with more than 24,000 units sold, achieving 7.7% market share which exceeds the sales pace of the record year in 2010.

Forging ahead to attain these results, Mr. Ueno urged all dealers to review their facilities, customer process, manpower and their skills to further elevate themselves and the Honda brand. He encouraged the dealers to start pushing themselves towards their vision by reforming their dealership, with a word of motivation to all dealer owners that their leadership is crucial in spearheading their dealership to attain Global Honda’s vision.
Last year’s collective effort culminated in various awards for the company, with the CR-Z clinching the 2012 Autocar ASEAN Car of the Year while the City and Civic achieved No. 1 in JD Power’s IQS (Initial Quality Study). The company also scaled new heights in the Hybrid market by becoming the first manufacturer to assemble a hybrid car in Malaysia. It is currently No. 1 in the Hybrid Segment, with close to 14,000 Honda Hybrids on Malaysian road.
The company aims for new breakthroughs with some exciting initiatives in the pipeline, as shared by Head of Marketing, Akkbar Danial.

The Honda Genuine Oil Filter
is designed with ‘irregular

efficiency. It has 1.5 times
more filtering power than
ordinary filters!
STANDARD OIL FILTER
A standard oil filter has a
‘chrysanthemum fold’.
HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A GENUINE AND STANDARD OIL FILTER?
As you drive, your car’s engine will inevitably pick up sludge from all the fuel combustion work. The engine oil will be stuck with unwanted particles like dirt and dust, which could shorten the engine’s life.
Low quality oil filters are less efficient in trapping dirt and may cause oil to leak out due to less stringent controls on the tightening of the seal plates. The Honda Genuine Oil Filter is designed to work with your Honda to provide a better circulation of clean engine oil through its highly efficient parts:
An anti-corrosive coated body.
Relieve valve that adjusts the right amount of oil at all times.
High performance element that catches particles effectively.
Uses excellent heat and oil resistance parts that are also durable against low temperatures, like the drain-bag valve that protects the engine during start-ups and prevents oil flow reversal when you turn the engine off.

Car Care
The weather in our country can get unpredictably hot
sometimes and the last thing you want is to be stuffed
in a car during rush hour because the air-conditioning
broke down. Regular service maintenance at your
authorised Honda Service Centre is important to keep
it running properly. Being attentive to warning signs
like leakage, noises or the temperature not being cold
enough can also help you rectify the problem sooner
with a professional technician before it breaks down
completely.
Just like you would keep your car clean daily, there are
a few practical ways to keep your air-conditioning in top
form. For example, did you know that driving at high
speed with the air-conditioning in full blast will result in
a lower temperature? Find out what other tips can help
you care for your Honda’s air-conditioning properly.
eeP cooL WiTH BaSic air-conDiTioning MainTenance
Tip #1:Keep the interior clean. Dirt and dust will result in mould and spores. It may not be visible
but it is certainly toxic, not just for your health but also your vehicle.
Tip #2:Spray water on the air-conditioning condenser. It is okay to clean the condenser when you
are washing your car. Simply open the hood and spray water on the unit located in front of
the radiator to loosen any dirt that may corrode the condenser or cause leakage.
Tip #3:Avoid too much hot sun. If you have an option, park at a shady lot instead of an open space
which will cause the air-conditioning to work harder to cool the car.
Tip #4:Do not smoke or use strong fragrances in the car. The nicotine from the smoke will
evaporate into sticky, slimy fumes which you do not realise are causing damage to the
air-conditioning. Also, fragrances that are plugged into the grill may also damage the grill.
Tip #5:Start the engine with the air-conditioning turned off and keep it that way until the
machine is stabilised. Likewise, turn it off first before you turn off the engine.
Some basic home maintenance could help you prevent costly malfunctions and keep your air-conditioning running smoother, longer.K
