    programme conducted byBrindavan Education Trust.

This enrichment programmeaims at teachers acquiring skillsand strategies to teach earlyliteracy, facilitate holisticdevelopment, and become

aware of informal screening fordevelopmental delays.

Sri H.N.Suresh presidedover the function. Smt. VijayaMahadevan, Smt. JanakiNarendra, Dr. Gayatri Kiran andcourse coordinator Smt. ShwetaChandrashekar of Brindavan Trustwere present on the occasion.

Sri. H.N. Suresh, Director BVB, explaining the painting on Astadikpalaka afterthe inauguration by Sri. Chandrashekhara Kambara, Noted scholar

    Shatavadhani Dr. R. Ganesh, joins.

This year’s Nitya Nrityafestival was a theme-based eventthat threw a challenge to dancersto translate a rather abstracttheme, Ashtadikpalaka (guardiansof eight directions) into themedium of dance.

The challenge was thrown bythe Director of the BengaluruKendra, H N Suresh, whoseeight, detailed paintings on thesubject, with a spectacularcomposite work incorporatingall elements of the eight paintings, was the topic on which the artisteshad to compose meaningful dancepieces.

    WHERE TWOVISUAL ARTSMET

The result was anunexpected, decipherablemeeting of the two arts, withelaborate talks accompanyingthe dance numbers.

Shatavadani Dr. R Ganeshdelivered the keynote address ofthe festival, themed “Ashtadikpalain art and literature”, after theinaugural address by litterateur

Dr. Chandrashekhara Kambara.Vyjayanthi Kashi’s ShambaviSchool of Dance presented theconcept in Kuchipudi, BharatiVittal in Kathak and Dr. ShobhaShashikumar in Bharatanatya.

The paintings of Suresh,on display simultaneously atthe newly-opened, subtly-litKRG Hall, were a study inmathematics, astrology, constellations, astronomy, vastu shastra, and mantrasamong others.

Educative, appealing visuallyand intellectually, while beingmystical and scientific at the sametime, was the sum and substanceof the Ashtadikpalaka paintings.

A rare occasion when anaudience was treated to aninformative, aesthetic paintingexhibition, complemented bydance recitals on same theme ofthe paintings and buttressed byeducative talks on the concept ofashtadikpalaka, this year’s NityaNritya was a record–breaker ofits own history of trend-setting,innovative culture fiestas.

The Bengaluru Kendra hashad a long-standing, loyal supportbase such that its activities havebranched out to many localities inthe city, and made forays intoother parts of the country such asWest Bengal and Tripura, forinstance.

One such close link is withPathi Shridhar, one of Bhavan’smost inconspicuous well-wishersand large-hearted donors. We atthe Bhavan look at him as aparticularly significant donor forthe liberal purse he opens for us;our regard for him as an expansivepartner in our expanding sphereof activities is more because hethinks our cause is his cause.

He believes that donating tothe Bhavan is an offering to God,as expressed by him many times. There is no cause which he hasnot pitched in for—infrastructure

for Bhavan’s schools, for otherkendras in Karnataka and forthe conduct of cultural activities. In many a programme of theBhavan, one can see PathiShridhar quietly sitting in a corner, making an unobtrusive exit later.

An administrative blockwill be opened in our premiseson Nov. 8, in memory ofSri. Pathi Adinaraniah andSmt. Pathi Ramalakshmamma byPathi Sridhara Shantha CharitableTrust at 10.30 am, the occasionheralded with a Carnatic vocalrecital by K V Krishnaprasad,a young musician known for hisdeep sense of involvement andbecoming one with his music, imbibed from his guruGanakalabhushanaR K Padmanabha, who isGuest of Honour for the function.

demonstrations being as muchthe core areas as teachingBharatanatya. The Kirans, as thedance couple call themselves, have been into teaching dancefor more than two decadesnow, adopting a broad culturalapproach as the fulcrum of theirinstitute. Overall personalitydevelopment with a special accenton tradition and roots is what thewards of Rasika get in goodmeasure. This perhaps is a reasonwhy quite a few senior dancers ofthe institute successfully attemptdance compositions. Rasika isputting up a show on Nov. 14,at Khincha Hall, at 6.30 pm.The programme is part of theHorizon series of ICCR, inassociation with Bhavan.
