Winnsboro, Louisiana-In these

days of tough economic times

we found it gratifying that

Chevrolet Motor Division makes

the newly styled Equinox FWD

2LT. Fully loaded and coming in

at just over $28,000, the new

Equinox for 2011 we tested

came with a proven 2.4L in-line

4-cylinder DOHC-182 horse

power SIDI engine. We are talk-

ing about 22 miles in the city

and 32 miles per gallon on the

highway. Having to make a

business trip to Winnsboro,

Louisiana during our test we

made out pretty well using less

than $20.00 worth of gasoline all

the way to Tenaha, Texas. The

vehicle has 66% of its part from

the United States and Canada

with the final assembly point in

Ingersoll, Ontario Canada. Both

the engine and transmission are

built in the United States. A six-

speed automatic transmission

offers some smooth shifting as

well and excellent performing on

the hills of US 59.

When it comes to safety, the

Equinox was a 2010 top safety

pick award winner from the

insurance institute for highway

safety. Such features as anti-lock

brake system and four-wheel

disc brakes with stabilitrak sta-

bility control with traction con-

trol. The unit also had a tire

monitoring system and front

dual air bags plus side impact

airbags. The driver and front

passengers are shielded by head

curtain side airbags with rollover

protection. Child safety latch

system with switch on driver

side door. Other features includ-

ing automatic headlamp control

and remote keyless entry with

advanced remote start. Equinox

has a frontal crash rating of 5-

star for driver and 4-star for

front passenger, with side crash

rating of 4-star for front seat and

5-star for rear seat and a rollover

rating of 4-star.

Greeted by premium cloth seats

with heated front bucket seats

with driver side eight-way power

and multi-flex sliding rear seats

with 60/40 split seatback and

three-position recline. Optional

leather appointed seats and life

gate power programmable as

well as audio system and rear

seat entertainment included for

about $13,000 more.

The driver is able to get fully

comfortable thanks to a leather

wrapped steering wheel with

audio controls, comfort tilt and

telescoping and cruise control.

Quality sounds from

AM/FM/XM stereo with

CD/DVD as well as two rear

seat dual screens DVDs with

two remote headsets. The

optional Pioneer Premium eight-

speaker system with amplifier

and equalization made the trip a

lot more fun.

It’s been many years since we’ve

made a long trip in a Chevy and

I must admit it brought back

memories from the early 70s

when we had a 1966 Impala SS

and later a 1976 Chevy Monte

Carlo.

In closing we want to add the

Equinox comes with a five-year

100,000 mile power train limited

warranty and you can see your

local dealers for details.

The 2011 Chevy Equinox FWD 2LT delivered big time on our trip

Page 3: Vol. XIII No. 126 Printed in God We Trust April 2011

Missouri City, Texas-If you

recall from time to time we talk

about the (NHTSA) National

Highway Traffic Safety

Administration and how it ranks

automobiles from 1-5 in five dif-

ferent categories. Well the 2011

Chevrolet Cruze Eco has just

been rated 5- star in frontal

crashes for both driver and front

passenger, plus side crash both

front and rear seats. The

rollover rating is a 4-star rating.

Not since we’ve been testing

automobiles have we seen such

a rating for a small compact car.

Yes this is one time when you

see the words industry leading,

you can bank on it. The Cruze

Eco we tested was equipped

with a 1.4L Ecotec VVT DOHC

turbo engine that produces 138

horsepower at 4900 RPM. This

little turbo engine is mated to a

M32-6-speed automatic trans-

mission and picks up speed just

fine. Rubber meets the road on

17-inch Ultra Low Rolling

Resistance tires wrapped around

a set of 17-inch light weight

forged polished alloy wheels.

When it comes to economic

numbers we are talking 26 miles

per gallon in the city and 37

miles per gallon on the highway.

We stayed close to home this

week and barely used one-half

tank of fuel but we could tell it

lived up to the reported num-

bers.

Back to the safety category for

the new Cruze you will find

airbags driver and front passen-

ger frontal knee, side impact and

head curtain along with rear out-

board passenger side impact and

head curtain. Yes this small

compact priced just over

$21,000 does have GM’s

Stabilitrak-stability control sys-

tem with traction control. Plus

four-wheel antilock disc brakes

front and rear drum brakes. The

child safety locks are operated

from the driver’s door allowing

the driver to make sure small

children don’t open doors while

the vehicle is moving. That just

goes to show how much effort

Chevy put into this compact

sedan.

Please don’t let the Eco name

fool you. This Chevy has aero

performances package that

includes a lower front grille air

shutters, mid body aero panels

and front fascia air dams. Man

that’s putting your best foot for-

ward.

The overall fit and finish of this

product gets an A and Chevy is

to be commended for a job well

done. With Lordstown, Ohio as

the final assembly point, Chevy

Cruze Eco is pretty much home

grown. The Cruze had 45% of

its parts from the United States

and Canada with 15% from

Mexico and 19% from Austria.

With the engine built in Austria

and the transmission in the

United States.

Inside the new Cruze you will

be welcomed by a simply yet

modern instrument cluster. The

steering column is tilt and tele-

scoping and the wheel is man-

ageable size. The driver seat is

eight-way power while the pas-

senger is manual adjustable. Yes

there is even rear parking assist

and remote vehicle start to name

a few more features. All this for

$21,000 is a honey of a deal.

Sounds from a six-speaker

AM/FM, CD player with USB

audio interface and Bluetooth

for phone along with XM radio

by Sirius sold separately after

three months.

Inclosing please allow me to say

when you average the estimated

annual fuel cost at 3.00 per gal-

lon over 15,000 miles it actually

comes to less than $1,500.

Dallas, Texas- Rolling up to Big

D to share in the birthday cele-

bration of Soul and Blues

Legend Ernie Johnson, photog-

rapher Andre Odums and I made

the three hour trip. Needless to

say the 2011 Camaro RS we

took to Dallas made the trip fun

and it was very affordable. Fact

is the 3.6 Liter V6 SIDI engine

cranks out 304 horse power but

still managed to get 30 miles per

gallon on the highway. We left

the north side of Houston and

traveled to the South Oak Cliff

area of Dallas and used only

$20.00 in fuel. If you had told

me ten years ago that I could

drive to Dallas with vehicle with

304 horses under the hood and

still manage to use only twenty

dollars worth of gas I would not

have believed you.

We were truly amazed at the

way the Camaro blended sporty

styling and fun to drive excite-

ment along with affordability at

the gas pump. Let us not forget

we are talking about one of the

most recognized names in the

automobile industry. The

Camaro is build with 66% of its

parts from the United States and

Canada and has a final assembly

point of Oshwa Ontario, Canada.

Fifteen percent of the parts come

from Mexico including the

engine while the transmission is

built in France.

We have to give it to GM along

with Chevy on doing a fine job

and Lord knows we are looking

forward to doing our report on

the new Convertible Camaro.

Before we go into more detail

let me also commend Chevy on

keeping our test vehicle under

$31,000. Just as we said earlier

this affordability is something

special when you consider what

a wonderful product we are talk-

ing about here.

The power come thrusting

through to the pavement on P

245/45ZR 20-inch tires front and

P275ZR 20-inch rear summer

tires circulating around a 20 X

8-inch front and 20 X 9-inch

rear flangeless painted alu-

minum wheels with midnight

silver finish. We are talking

about race car like touring here.

Fact is the trip went so well we

spent four hours in Dallas and

then drove back to Houston the

same night.

As we talk more about what it

was like driving the Camaro let

me stop to tell you all it comes

with a five year 100,000 mile

power train limited warranty.

Inside the Camaro you are greet-

ed with a race car like interior

with big face gauges and instru-

ment cluster with easy to read

letters, plus a driver friendly

cock pit style set up.

Safety is also at a premium in

the new Camaro with air bags

driver and front passenger with

dual stage frontal with passenger

sensing and side impact. Both

front and rear side head curtain

side air bags. Yes it also has

Stabilitrak with traction control,

antilock brake system and theft

deterrent system as well as tire

monitoring system.

The dual exhaust with polished

stainless steel tips really reminds

me of the 70s. When you get

down on it you can hear that

bass exhaust and it really brings

back memories.

The rear seat has full fold fea-

ture with pass through and the

vehicle had a great deal of trunk

space.

In closing please allow me to

add the Boston Acoustic

Premium nine-speaker audio

system came in handy when my

co-worker fell asleep on the way

back!

The 2011 Lincoln MKX is

rolling in the lap of luxury and

class. We must admit it was

very pleasing to test drive the

new SUV. The MKX is powered

by a 3.7 L TI-VCT V6 engine

that produces 305 horsepower at

6500 RPM and produces 280 lb.

per FT of torque. All this is mat-

ted to a 6-speed select-shift

automatic transmission that

makes shifting in and out of traf-

fic a breeze. Let me also throw

in the vehicle runs on 87 per

octane fuel, now what more

could you want?

This power transforms to the

road on P245R 20 BSW A/S

tires wrapped around a 20 inch

chrome clad aluminum wheels

for a quality ride.

A smooth rolling machine with

FWD and a very stable handling

package simply adds to the fun

to drive category. We must also

tell you our test vehicle came in

at a little more than 51 grand but

it was worth it and then some.

Inside leather seating with 10-

way heated/cooled driver and

front passenger seat with driver

memory. The steering wheel is

tilt/telescopic making sure the

driver is comfortable.

The rear seats are 60/40 with

arm rest and “My Lincoln

touch”.

Sounds come from a Sync voice

activated system with AM/FM

Stereo with CD/MP3 player

along with Sirius Satellite radio.

Over the years Lincoln has

always got my attention to detail

when it comes to their interior

layout. The instrument cluster is

modern and up to date but still

manages to be driver friendly

enough that anyone can operate

them. It did take a while to get

use to some of the new styled

electronic for the sound system

and the GPS. The overall layout

comes with a smooth cockpit

style driver and front seat pas-

senger area with 40 cubic inches

of head room. While the second

row seats offered 39 cubic inch-

es of head room. The shoulder

room is an industry leading 58.9

and the rear 58.7 cubic inches,

while the leg room is 40.7 front

and 39.6 in the rear. The hip

room is a 55.2 cubic inch for

you full figured girls who like to

drive the luxury Lincoln. The

industry leading 108.4 cubic

inches of interior space with

68.6 behind front row and 32.3

behind the second row seats

keep Lincoln on top when it

comes to overall space. All of

this without making the overall

track of the vehicle width over-

sized. Over the years Ford and

Lincoln have done a wonderful

job when it comes to this cate-

gory.

Safety is personal with Lincoln

with side airbags/safety canopy

and advance trac with RSC

along with SOS post crash sys-

tem. Four wheel disc brakes

with ABS stops the smooth sail-

ing Lincoln is little or no time.

Other functional features include

remote keyless with keypad

intelligent access with push bot-

tom start and automatic dim rear

view mirror.

Warranties for the new Lincoln

MKX is the standard 4-

year/50,000 with 6-year/70,000

mile power train warranty with

12 month/15,000 complimentary

maintenance.

In closing please allow me to

add the new Lincoln also came

with a panoramic vista roof and

blind spot monitoring system.

Latest accolade for zero-emis-sion vehicle comes at ew York

International Auto Show

NEW YORK (April 21, 2011) –

Today, at the New York

International Auto Show, the

100-percent electric, zero-emis-

sion Nissan LEAF was named

2011 World Car of the Year,

edging out the BMW 5-Series

and the Audi A8 for the top spot.

Today’s award is the latest in a

string of accolades for the

world’s first affordable mass-

market, all-electric vehicle for

the global market, which was

also named European Car of the

Year.

“It is a great joy that the world’s

first, mass-marketed electric

vehicle, the Nissan LEAF, has

won the prestigious award of

2011 World Car of the Year,”

said Nissan Chairman and CEO

Carlos Ghosn. “This accolade

recognizes Nissan LEAF, a pio-

neer in zero-emission mobility,

as comparable in its driving per-

formance, quietness and superb

handling to gas-powered cars.

And it validates Nissan’s clear

vision and the values of sustain-

able mobility that we want to

offer to customers around the

world.”

The World Car Awards jurors

observed that, “The Leaf is the

gateway to a brave new electric

world from Nissan. This 5-

seater, 5-door hatchback is the

world’s first, purpose-built,

mass-produced electric car. It

has a range of over 100 miles on

a full charge claims Nissan,

takes around 8 hours to recharge

using 220-240V power supply

and produces zero tailpipe emis-

sions. Its low center of gravity

produced sharp turn-in with

almost no body roll and no

understeer. The good news? It

feels just like a normal car, only

quieter.”

The World Car of the Year com-

petition was launched in 2004,

with winners chosen by a panel

of automotive journalists from

Asia, Europe and North

America.

Nissan LEAF is available in

Japan, the United States and

select European markets and

will be released in other global

markets in 2012. The vehicle is

currently built at Nissan’s

Oppama, Japan plant. It also will

be manufactured at the compa-

ny’s Smyrna, Tenn., plant in the

United States in late 2012 and at

Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the

United Kingdom by early 2013.

Aiming to be the world leader

in zero-emission vehicles,

Nissan, with its Alliance partner,

Renault, has formed partnerships

with more than 90 governments,

cities and other organizations

around the world not only to

develop and produce EV and

lithium-ion batteries but also to

promote sustainable mobility.

Nissan is also taking a compre-

hensive approach to encourage

to the world to more sustainable

mobility such as improvement of

charging service, infrastructure

deployment, the promotion of

the use of recycled materials and

overall energy management sys-

tem including second-life use of

lithium-ion batteries.

About issan Americas

In the Americas, Nissan’s opera-

tions include automotive styling,

engineering, consumer and cor-

porate financing, sales and mar-

keting, distribution and manu-

facturing. Nissan is dedicated to

improving the environment

under the Nissan Green Program

and was recognized as an

ENERGY STAR® Partner of the

Year by the U.S. Environmental

Protection Agency in 2010 and

2011. More information on

Nissan in North America, the

Nissan LEAF and zero emis-

sions can be found at www.nis-

Once in a while you make a

great discovery while on the

way to something entirely differ-

ent. Some of these discoveries

are totally unexpected.

Recently, as I traveled down

Heights Boulevard, I saw an

interesting structure in the

esplanade at 11th Street.

The Houston Heights World War

II Memorial Plaza is a beautiful

structure of grey marble.

Dedicated on November 7,

1999, the inscription reads in

part: “Dedicated to the memory

of the men and women of the

Greater Heights Area who

served in the Armed Forces dur-

ing World War II and to espe-

cially to those that made the

extreme sacrifice to their coun-

try.”

The centerpiece of the memorial

is a five sided marble pentagon

with names of people that served

and died from the Army, Navy,

Army Air Force and Marine

Corps. The fifth side shows the

purpose of the pylon. Atop the

pylon is a marble globe with a

gold star representing Houston.

From each side of the pentagon

are star points with additional

names of military men and

women that gave their life for

their country. Between the star

points are some of the sponsors

of the Memorial.

Surrounding the pylon and stars

are a semi circle of marble

plaques that also show names of

Heights residents that did not

return from the war alive. The

plaques are separated by the

branch of service and include

Army, Navy, Army Air Force,

Marines and Coast Guard. The

inscription at the other end of

the semi circle states:

When the country has been in

need

It’s the soldier, not the reporter

who has given us

Freedom of the Press.

It’s the soldier, not the poet, who

has given us

Freedom of Speech.

It’s the soldier, not the campus

organizer, who has given us the

Freedom to Demonstrate.

It’s the soldier, not the lawyer,

who has given us the

Right to a Fair Trial.

It’s the soldier who salutes the

flag, serves under the flag and

whose coffin is draped by the

flag,

Who gives the protestor the right

to burn the flag.

Father Dennis Edward O’Brien,

USMC

The memorial is in the center of

north and southbound Heights

Boulevard and is an oasis in the

middle of a busy intersection. It

is surrounded by beautifully kept

trees and contains flowers and

other ground cover.

Surrounding the walls of

plaques are a series of smaller

pylons. On top of each pylon is

an engraved picture or map.

Each pylon represents a memo-

rable event of World War II. For

example one shows The Battle

of the Bulge: another the landing

at Iwo Jima. One represents VE

Day and one shows the dropping

of the Atom Bombs on Japan.

Each pylon has a text describing

the event and the dates. In total

there are about 20 pylons.

As I sat on the bench and con-

templated the memorial, I was

moved by the peacefulness of

this sanctuary. I did not hear the

traffic passing by and did not

notice the nearby construction.

All I could see and feel was the

dedication of the men and

women that loved their country

so much they were willing to lay

down their lives so their children

and grandchildren could be free.

I urge everyone to take a short

trip to visit this haven in the

Heights.

Houston has many claims to

fame. The fourth larges city in

the nation can claim to be a key

player in the space program, first

in international port tonnage and

home to the first heart trans-

plant. In addition, we are the art

car capital of the world. What is

an art car? Simply put, it is a

car that is the base for an artistic

statement.

Our town is home to two huge

Art Car venues: the Art Car

Museum and the Art Car Parade.

The Art Car Parade is an event

that appeals to both young and

old. This year the parade will be

held on Sunday, May 22.

Starting at 1:00 PM the parade

will run down Allen Parkway

Drive from Bagby to Waugh.

Concessions will be available,

but you are welcome to bring

your own cooler (adult bever-

ages are allowed, but be careful

to not overindulge on a hot day).

There is limited bleacher seating

available but settings up your

lawn chairs on the curb are the

best way to view the proceed-

ings.

Last year, Grand Marshall Dan

Akroyd led over 300 unusual

vehicles. There were low riders,

dragon card, dog cars, a giant

Flexible Flyer and even a guy

driving a porta-potty. You have

to see this event to believe it.

The best part of this event is that

it is totally FREE and fun for the

whole family. A word or two of

advise, though. If you go, leave

early and stake out a good spot.

The cars are on display and you

can talk to the artists and take as

many photos as you want. There

are potties available, but you

have to look for them. When

the parade is over, do not get in

any hurry to leave. Traffic will

be a total disaster and it could

take an hour or more to get out

of the area. I usually park off

Washington and walk the two

blocks to Allen Parkway. I tow a

cooler with beverages and

snacks. The grandchildren could

not get enough of this event and

are looking forward to the 2011

parade.

The other Art Car “event” in

Houston is the Art Car Museum.

This museum located at 140

Heights Boulevard, just a short

drive south of I-10is the hub of

the Houston Art Car community.

The displays rotate about every

three months. Before you even

enter the museum you are greet-

ed by a 20 foot tall rolling steel

praying mantis and a huge angry

metal giraffe.

The museum is a privately

owned, not-for-profit organiza-

tion founded in 1984 by Ann

Harthas and her husband James.

The inspiration for the museum

is the “Collision” show at the

Lawndale Art Center. Ann

Harthas was the curator of this

show. This was the beginning of

the international art car move-

ment which is deeply rooted in

our town.

The current display is a collec-

tion of art cars created by Mark

Bradford. Bradford’s works usu-

ally include unusual materials

and lots of moving parts.

Rancha is sort of an insect look-

ing vehicle with eight legs and

fangs. Elee is based on a go cart

chassis and looks like a fire

breathing dragon (with real fire).

Both are made from metal

spoons. After the 9/11 attacks

the airlines were forced to dis-

card the metal tableware they

were using. Bradford acquired

these utensils and created both

of these vehicles. Spoonzoid is

the third vehicle created with

spoons and resembles a crawling

four legged creature.

These are just examples of some

of the art on display. Almost any

material can be turned into a

moving art piece with the right

creative mind. Many of the

works use exotic metals like

copper and brass with dramatic

results.

This museum is open

Wednesday through Sunday

from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

The exciting part of this muse-

um is that admission is always

FREE! In a town that depends

on four wheeled vehicles as

much as Houston does it is no

wonder that the art car move-

ment was spawned in out com-

munity and continues to call

Houston Home.

Is the Observance of Easter,by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God throughJesus Christ and his Apostles?

We ask this question because, those of us that proclaim to beChristians, have been given acommandment by the words ofthe apostles of our Lord andSavour Jesus Christ; “1Thes5:21 Prove all things; hold fastthat which is good.” But first, bear with us as we be scriptural-ly reminded of the order ofthings, if you will, “The Chainof Command” in the belief ofGOD. Jesus DEFINES those thatare and those that are NOT ofGod, please read; “John 8:47He that is of God hearethGod’s words: ye therefore hearthem not, because ye are not ofGod.” God made it clear in HisWord, that we MUST hear JesusChrist His beloved son, and inverse 8, him ONLY; “Matt.17:4Then answered Peter, and saidunto Jesus, Lord, it is good forus to be here: if thou wilt, let usmake here three tabernacles;one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5 While heyet spake, behold, a bright cloudovershadowed them: and beholda voice out of the cloud, whichsaid, This is my beloved Son,in whom I am well pleased;hear ye him. 6 And when thedisciples heard it, they fell ontheir face, and were sore afraid.7And Jesus came and touchedthem, and said, Arise, and be notafraid. 8 And when they had lift-ed up their eyes, they saw noman, save Jesus only.” John12:48 He that rejecteth me, andreceiveth not my words, hathone that judgeth him: the wordthat I have spoken, the sameshall judge him in the last day.49 For I have not spoken ofmyself; but the Father whichsent me, he gave me a com-mandment, what I should say,and what I should speak.

Jesus, the only one that God hascommanded us to hear, tells ushow we must believe on him;“John 17:17 Sanctify themthrough thy truth: thy word istruth.18 As thou hast sent meinto the world, even so have Ialso sent them into the world.19And for their sakes I sanctifymyself, that they also might besanctified through the truth.20either pray I for these alone, but for them also which shallbelieve on me through theirword; 21 That they all may beone; as thou, Father, art in me,and I in thee, that they also maybe one in us: that the world maybelieve that thou hast sent me.”We must believe on Christ onlyin the manner he has stated, through his Apostle’s word, sim-ply because he said so; being thehead of every man; “1 Cor 11:1Be ye followers of me, even as Ialso am of Christ. 2 Now Ipraise you, brethren, that yeremember me in all things, andkeep the ordinances, as I deliv-ered them to you. 3 But I would

have you know, that the headof every man is Christ; and thehead of the woman is the man;and the head of Christ is God.”

Before Jesus ascended back intoheaven, he left instructions withhis apostles; “Matt 28:16 Thenthe eleven disciples went awayinto Galilee, into a mountainwhere Jesus had appointed them.17 And when they saw him, theyworshipped him: but somedoubted. 18 And Jesus cameand spake unto them, saying,All power is given unto me inheaven and in earth. 19 Go yetherefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name ofthe Father, and of the Son, andof the Holy Ghost: 20 Teachingthem to observe all thingswhatsoever I have commandedyou: and, lo, I am with youalway, even unto the end of theworld. Amen.” These instruc-tions are for the one church thatJesus is building; “Matt 16:16And Simon Peter answered andsaid, Thou art the Christ, theSon of the living God. 17 AndJesus answered and said untohim, Blessed art thou, SimonBarjona: for flesh and bloodhath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heav-en. 18 And I say also unto thee,That thou art Peter, and uponthis rock I will build mychurch; and the gates of hellshall not prevail against it.”Christ is also the Head of thatchurch; “Eph 1:21 Far above allprincipality, and power, andmight, and dominion, and everyname that is named, not only inthis world, but also in that whichis to come: 22 And hath put allthings under his feet, and gavehim to be the head over allthings to the church, 23 Whichis his body, the fulness of himthat filleth all in all.”(See Eph.4:14-16, 5:23-24)

Jesus gave instructions to hisApostles, the ones that God gavehim, on how to run HIS church,as they were guided by TheHoly Ghost. No one else wasgiven this authority. Rememberhe told them in verses 16 thru18 of Matt. 28th chapter, thatall power had been given him,by his Father in heaven and inearth. Jesus also told them inverses 19&20 to go and teachall nations, and to baptize. Healso made it clear by whatnames baptism was to be doneand what things they were toteach to be observed, and thosewere the things Jesus had com-manded them. There were alsothings that he had yet to tell hisapostles, after ascending backinto heaven. According to scrip-ture this was to be done by TheHoly Ghost “The Comforter”,The Spirit of Truth, please read;“John 16:7 Nevertheless I tellyou the truth; It is expedient foryou that I go away: for if I gonot away, the Comforter will notcome unto you; but if I depart, Iwill send him unto you. 8 Andwhen he is come, he willreprove the world of sin, and ofrighteousness, and of judgment:9 Of sin, because they believe

not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, andye see me no more; 11 Of judg-ment, because the prince of thisworld is judged. 12 I have yetmany things to say unto you, butye cannot bear them now. 13Howbeit when he, the Spirit oftruth, is come, he will guideyou into all truth: for he shallnot speak of himself; but what-soever he shall hear, that shall hespeak: and he will shew youthings to come. 14 He shall glo-rify me: for he shall receive ofmine, and shall shew it untoyou. 15 All things that theFather hath are mine: thereforesaid I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

How then MUST we believe andhear Jesus? According to Jesus,it is NOT through some voicethat comes to us, but ratherthrough his APOSTLES wordsas THEY were guided by TheHoly Ghost; the things that areWRITTEN. Please read; “John17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.17 Sanctify them through thytruth: thy word is truth. 18 Asthou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent theminto the world. 19 And for theirsakes I sanctify myself, that theyalso might be sanctified throughthe truth. 20 Neither pray I forthese alone, but for them alsowhich shall believe on methrough their word; 21 Thatthey all may be one; as thou,Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:that the world may believe thatthou hast sent me.“Eph 3:1 Forthis cause I Paul, the prisoner ofJesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2If ye have heard of the dispensa-tion of the grace of God whichis given me to you-ward: 3 Howthat by revelation he madeknown unto me the mystery; (asI wrote afore in few words, 4Whereby, when ye read, yemay understand my knowl-edge in the mystery of Christ)5 Which in other ages was notmade known unto the sons ofmen, as it is now revealed untohis holy apostles and prophetsby the Spirit;”. “I Jn 4:5 Theyare of the world: therefore speakthey of the world, and the worldheareth them.6 We are of God:he that knoweth God hearethus; he that is not of Godheareth not us. Hereby knowwe the spirit of truth, and thespirit of error.”

We MUST remember theChurch by Christ (see Eph.3:20-21), the one he is building, andis the Head of, has been com-manded not to follow traditionsand commandments of men (seeMatt. 15:8-10; Col.2:8-12; 18-23; Titus1:13-14), but to followthe traditions and command-ments of the apostles which isfound in New Testament scrip-ture (Acts 2:41-42; 1Cor.11:1-2; Philp.4:9; 2Thes.2:13-15;3:6). It is true; Jesus and hisApostles did observed thePassover, before his death. Jesuswas born under the Law(seeGal.4:4), and so was his

Apostles. After his cruel deathon the cross; the NewTestament, which was in hisblood (see1Cor.11:25), and afterHis resurrection, we find noscriptural evidence of himobserving such. Neither do wefind any instructions in the apos-tles’ doctrine and or word, forthe Church that Christ is build-ing, (Acts 2:47) to observe such.We believe that we are SAFEand COMPLETE ONLY inChrist Jesus, NOT in Moses,Elias or anyone else, note whatthe apostle Paul admonished theChurch in Colosse to do; “Col2:5 For though I be absent inthe flesh, yet am I with you inthe spirit, joying and beholdingyour order, and the stedfastnessof your faith in Christ. 6 As yehave therefore received ChristJesus the Lord, so walk ye inhim: 7 Rooted and built up inhim, and stablished in the faith,as ye have been taught, abound-ing therein with thanksgiving. 8Beware lest any man spoil youthrough philosophy and vaindeceit, after the tradition ofmen, after the rudiments of theworld, and not after Christ. 9For in him dwelleth all the ful-ness of the Godhead bodily. 10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all princi-pality and power: 11 In whomalso ye are circumcised with thecircumcision made withouthands, in putting off the body ofthe sins of the flesh by the cir-cumcision of Christ: 12 Buriedwith him in baptism, whereinalso ye are risen with himthrough the faith of the opera-tion of God, who hath raisedhim from the dead.”

Remember Christ left the apos-tles and only them instructions,and or commands on the thingsthat ARE to be OBSERVED (seeMatt.28:16-20), by the Churchthat he is the head of ; “Col 1:12Giving thanks unto the Father,which hath made us meet to bepartakers of the inheritance ofthe saints in light: 13 Who hathdelivered us from the power ofdarkness, and hath translated usinto the kingdom of his dearSon: 14 In whom we haveredemption through his blood,even the forgiveness of sins: 15Who is the image of the invisi-ble God, the firstborn of everycreature: 16 For by him were allthings created, that are in heav-en, and that are in earth, visibleand invisible, whether they bethrones, or dominions, or princi-palities, or powers: all thingswere created by him, and forhim: 17 And he is before allthings, and by him all thingsconsist. 18 And he is the headof the body, the church: who isthe beginning, the firstborn fromthe dead; that in all things hemight have the (1)preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father thatin him should all fulness dwell;

Definition: (1)preeminence-4409 proteuo (prote-yoo’-o);from 4413; to be first, to holdthe first place (in rank or influ-ence): KJV— have the preemi-nence.

We must also remember thatJesus Christ, the only begottenof God was and is perfect, andso is The Holy Spirit. They didnot forget anything, so that evenbefore the deaths of all theapostles, there were offices putin place for the overseeing of theChurch by Christ, the one thathe is building (see Matt.16:16-18; Acts20:16-17, 26-31,Philp.1:1; 1Tim.3:1-12; 5:17;Titus1:5-11; Heb.13:17-18).They, as well as all those thatprofesses to be Christians, mustfollow the traditions and com-mandments of the apostles asthey were guided by the HolySpirit, until The Chief Shepherdshall appear; “1 Pet 5:1 Theelders which are among you Iexhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferingsof Christ, and also a partaker ofthe glory that shall be revealed:2 Feed the flock of God which isamong you, taking the oversightthereof, not by constraint, butwillingly; (1)not for filthylucre, but of a ready mind; 3Neither as being lords overGod’s heritage, but being ensam-ples to the flock. 4 And whenthe chief Shepherd shallappear, ye shall receive a crownof glory that fadeth not away. 5Likewise, ye younger, submityourselves unto the elder. Yea,all of you be subject one toanother, and be clothed withhumility: for God resisteth theproud, and giveth grace to thehumble.

6 Humble yourselves thereforeunder the mighty hand of God,that he may exalt you in duetime:” “2Pet 3:1 This secondepistle, beloved, I now writeunto you; in both which I stir upyour pure minds by way ofremembrance: 2 That ye may bemindful of the words whichwere spoken before by the holyprophets, and of the command-ment of us the apostles of theLord and Saviour:”

Definition: (1)not for filthylucre-147 aischrokerdos (ahee-skhrok-er-doce’); adverb from146; sordidly: KJV— for filthylucre’s sake, eagerness for basegain; 146 aischrokerdes-eagerfor base gain, greedy for money

Notice the difference in the twoEasters, the first one we can findscripture for the customs, tradi-tions and sacrifices that was setin place. Again this was given toMoses by God, for the Israelitesand for a specific reason. Thepreparation of the foods thatthey were to partake of wasspecified by God throughMoses, Please read;

2) the paschal lamb, that is, thelamb the Israelites were accus-tomed to kill and eat on the14th day of the month of Nisan(the first month of their year) inmemory of the day on whichtheir fathers, preparing to departfrom Egypt, were bidden by Godto slay and eat a lamb, and tosprinkle their door posts with itsblood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might passover their dwellings; the paschalfeast, the feast of the Passover, extending from the 14th to the20th day of the month Nisan.

Exod 12:1 And the LORDspake unto Moses and Aaronin the land of Egypt, saying, 2This month shall be unto you thebeginning of months: it shall bethe first month of the year toyou. 3 Speak ye unto all thecongregation of Israel, saying,In the tenth day of this monththey shall take to them everyman a lamb, according to thehouse of their fathers, a lamb foran house: 4 And if the house-hold be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour nextunto his house take it accordingto the number of the souls; everyman according to his eating shallmake your count for the lamb. 5Your lamb shall be withoutblemish, a male of the first year:ye shall take it out from thesheep, or from the goats: 6 Andye shall keep it up until the four-teenth day of the same month:and the whole assembly of thecongregation of Israel shall killit in the evening. 7 And theyshall take of the blood, andstrike it on the two side postsand on the upper door post ofthe houses, wherein they shalleat it. 8 And they shall eat theflesh in that night, roast withfire, and unleavened bread; andwith bitter herbs they shall eat it.9 Eat not of it raw, nor soddenat all with water, but roast withfire; his head with his legs, andwith the (1)purtenance thereof.

10 And ye shall let nothing of itremain until the morning; andthat which remaineth of it untilthe morning ye shall burn withfire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it;with your loins girded, yourshoes on your feet, and yourstaff in your hand; and ye shalleat it in haste: it is the LORD’spassover. 12 For I will passthrough the land of Egypt thisnight, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, bothman and beast; and against allthe gods of Egypt I will executejudgment: I am the LORD. 13And the blood shall be to youfor a token upon the houseswhere ye are: and when I see theblood, I will pass over you, andthe plague shall not be upon youto destroy you, when I smite theland of Egypt. 14 And this dayshall be unto you for a memo-rial; and ye shall keep it a feast

to the LORD throughout yourgenerations; ye shall keep it afeast by an ordinance for ever.15 Seven days shall ye eatunleavened bread; even the firstday ye shall put away leaven outof your houses: for whosoevereateth leavened bread from thefirst day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off fromIsrael.

Exod 12:47 All the congrega-tion of Israel shall keep it.

The first Easter “Passover” wasauthorized by God throughMoses, to Israel and is of thetruth. The instructions of obser-vance and the dates were set, byGod, and it was much earlierthan A.D. 325. If Christians areunder the Old Law “The Law ofMoses”, which we are notaccording to the apostle’s doc-trine, then all of the instructionsof observance including theSACRIFICES and the datesgiven, must be followed circum-spect, to be right “righteous”with God. There were no fables, nor Greek gods or goddesses, init. We must remember ChristiansMUST follow Christ through hisApostles, not Moses. Christ isthe end of the Law (see John1:17, Rom. 10:1-5). Now let usby scripture disprove Easter #2.

EASTER“Bill Petro, your friendly neigh-borhood historianwww.billpetro.com/holidayhisto-ry”

“The most joyous of Christianfestivals, and one of the firstcelebrated by the Christians, commemorates the resurrectionof Jesus Christ, on the firstSunday after the full moon fol-lowing the vernal equinox. TheEnglish word “Easter” corre-sponding to the German “Oster”,reveals the association of manyEaster customs with those ofthe Teutonic tribes of centralEurope. When Christianityreached these people it incorpo-rated many of their heathenrites into the great Christianfeast day. Easter month, corre-sponding to our April, was dedi-cated to Eostre, or Ostara, goddess of the spring. Therewas in common the time ofspring and the triumph of lifeover death. The practice of eat-ing eggs on Easter Sunday andgiving them as gifts to friendsand children probably arosebecause, in the earlier days ofthe church, eggs were forbiddenfood during Lent (the 40 daysbefore Easter) and were there-fore always eaten on EasterSunday. But the custom of col-oring eggs goes back to theancient Egyptians andPersians, who practiced thiscustom during their spring festi-val.

The Easter hare, or bunny, comes from antiquity as well. The hare is associated with themoon in the legends of ancientEgypt. It belongs to the nightwhen it comes out to feed. It isborn with its eyes opened and,

like the moon, is “the open-eyedwatcher of the skies”. Throughthe fact that the Egyptian wordfor hare, “un”, means also“open” and “period”, the harebecame associated with the ideaof periodicity, both lunar andhuman, and so became a symbolof fertility and of the renewal oflife. As such, the hare becamelinked with the Easter, orpaschal, eggs. In the U.S. theEaster rabbit is fabled to laythe eggs in the nests preparedfor it or to hide them for thechildren to find.

Although Easter was celebratedvery early in the church, its datewas not established until A.D.325 when Constantine convenedthe council at Nicea, where itwas decided that it should beobserved on the first Sundayafter the full moon following thevernal equinox, to be fixed eachyear at Alexandria, then the cen-ter of astronomical science. Thedate is an approximation, andmay vary. This means that itsdate may vary as much as 35days!”Bill Petro, your friendly neigh-borhood historianwww.billpetro.com/holidayhisto-ry

The second Easter has beendisproved simply because, notone scripture was given for theinstructions and dates of obser-vance. Not one of the traditionalobservance given, matched anyof the ones given by God. It isalso stated that “Easter” is aChristian festival, ACCORDINGTO SCRIPTURE this isERROR, which is FALSEDOCTRIE! We must remem-ber “Christian” and“Christianity” are not just words, but are lifestyles! Using theapostle’s doctrine as a reference,as the Church of and by Christhas been commanded to do,Christian and Christianity arethe two MOST misused wordson earth. Christians MUST fol-low Christ through his Apostle’sword (John17:20-23). The truthis, the only Easter/ Passoverauthorized by God was given byGod through Moses, to the chil-dren of Israel “those under theOld Law”. The second one wasgiven to man by man in A.D.325 MUCH too late to be ofGod or Christ for that matter, and it has not one custom or tra-dition given by God, Christ orhis Apostles; thereby it is not ofthe truth. It’s full of customsand traditions of men; men suchas “heathens and Greek goddess-es”. It also consists of Fables, which are lies; such as egg lay-ing rabbits. Not only does rab-bits lay eggs according to the liethat children are told, but theylay hard-boiled, colored ones. This lie is passed on from gener-ation to generation. Childrenshould be taught the truthbecause the scriptures teach thatall liars will have their part, seeRev.21:8. We all may fall shortand lie at some point in ourlives, but to practice, to observeand to look forward to lying, makes us LIARS.

The scriptures teach that Jesus’resurrection was early on thefirst day of the week, at the endof the Sabbath, OT on EasterSunday or Christian Sabbath.“Mark 16:1 And when thesabbath was past, MaryMagdalene, and Mary the moth-er of James, and Salome, hadbought sweet spices, that theymight come and anoint him. 2And very early in the morningthe first day of the week, theycame unto the sepulchre at therising of the sun.” “Mark 16:9Now when Jesus was risen earlythe first day of the week, heappeared first to MaryMagdalene, out of whom he hadcast seven devils.” (seeMatt.28:1; Luke24:1) ChristianSabbath, according to scriptureis a contradiction, in that accord-ing to the apostles’ doctrine thedisciples, which were latercalled Christians, came togetheron the first day of the week,“Acts 11:26 And when he hadfound him, he brought him untoAntioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assem-bled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And thedisciples were called Christiansfirst in Antioch.” “Acts 20:6And we sailed away fromPhilippi after the days ofunleavened bread, and cameunto them to Troas in five days;where we abode seven days. 7And upon the first day of theweek, when the disciples cametogether to (1)break bread, Paulpreached unto them, ready todepart on the morrow; and con-tinued his speech until mid-night.”….Definition: (1)breakbread 2806 klao-to break usedin the New Testament of thebreaking of bread (communion).

The (1)Sabbath on the otherhand, ended the Passover, whichwas the seventh day of theweek; (Definition: (1)Sabbath4521 sabbaton (sab’-bat-on); ofHebrew origin [7676]; theSabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or dayof weekly repose from secularavocations (also the observanceor institution itself); 1) the sev-enth day of each week whichwas a sacred festival on whichthe Israelites were required toabstain from all work a) theinstitution of the sabbath, thelaw for keeping holy every sev-enth day of the week: KJV—sabbath.)

All must believe the truth to beright with God, please read; “IITh 2:8 And then shall thatWicked be revealed, whom theLord shall consume with thespirit of his mouth, and shalldestroy with the brightness ofhis coming: 9 Even him, whosecoming is after the working ofSatan with all power and signsand lying wonders, 10 And withall deceivableness of unright-eousness in them that perish;because they received not thelove of the truth, that theymight be saved. 11 And for thiscause God shall send themstrong delusion, that theyshould believe a lie: 12 That

they all might be damned whobelieved not the truth, but had(1)pleasure in (2)unrighteous-ness.”

Definitions: (1)pleasure-2106eudokeo (yoo-dok-eh’-o); 1) itseems good to one, is one’s goodpleasure a) to think it good, tochoose, to determine, to decideb) to do willingly c) to be readyto, to prefer, to choose rather 2)to be well pleased with, to takepleasure in, to be favorablyinclined toward one: KJV—think good, (be well) please (-d),be the good (have, take) pleas-ure, be willing.(2)in unrighteousness-93adikia (ad-ee-kee’-ah); from 94;(legal) injustice (properly, thequality, by implication, the act);morally, wrongfulness (of char-acter, life or act) 3) a deed vio-lating law and justice, act ofunrighteousness: KJV— iniqui-ty, unjust, unrighteousness, wrong.

Now let us set by NewTestament Scriptures the founda-tion of belief. But first let uslook at the only place the word“Easter” is found in the bibleand it of Aramaic origin thatwas used to define the feast ofthe Passover. According to Acts12:1-4, these Jews were not ofthe body, the Church thatChrist was building (Col.1:18-20; Matt.16:17-18), because itpleased them that king Herodstretched forth his hand to vexcertain of the Church. The scrip-tures then go on to name thoseof the Church that King Herodvexed, killing James, the brotherof John with the sword, and put-ting Peter in prison.

Acts 12:1 Now about that timeHerod the king stretched forthhis hands to vex certain of thechurch. 2 And he killed Jamesthe brother of John with thesword. 3 And because he saw itpleased the Jews, he proceededfurther to take Peter also. (Thenwere the days of unleavenedbread.) 4 And when he hadapprehended him, he put him inprison, and delivered him to fourquaternions of soldiers to keephim; intending after Easter tobring him forth to the people(KJV)

We must remember All FLESHincluding GENERATIONS endsin Christ; we are neither Jew norGreek in Christ, according toscripture we MUST becomeNEW SPIRITUAL creatures,Please read;

Exod 12:14 And this day shallbe unto you for a memorial;and ye shall keep it a feast to theLORD throughout your genera-tions; ye shall keep it a feast byan ordinance for ever.

Gal 3:27 For as many of you ashave been baptized into Christhave put on Christ. 28 There isneither Jew nor Greek, there isneither bond nor free, there isneither male nor female: for yeare all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if ye be Christ’s, then areye Abraham’s seed, and heirsaccording to the promise.

Eph 2:15 Having abolished inhis flesh the enmity, even thelaw of commandments containedin ordinances; for to make inhimself of twain one new man,so making peace; (KJV)

Eph 4:20 But ye have not solearned Christ; 21 If so be thatye have heard him, and havebeen taught by him, as the truthis in Jesus: 22 That ye put offconcerning the former conversa-tion the old man, which is cor-rupt according to the deceitfullusts; 23 And be renewed in thespirit of your mind; 24 And thatye put on the new man, whichafter God is created in righteous-ness and true holiness. (KJV)

Col 3:10 And have put on thenew man, which is renewed inknowledge after the image ofhim that created him: 11 Wherethere is neither Greek nor Jew,circumcision nor uncircumci-sion, Barbarian, Scythian, bondnor free: but Christ is all, and inall. (KJV)

All must believe on Christthrough the apostle’s word, andafter baptism must continuesteadfastly in the Apostle’s doc-trine. This doctrine is found onlyin New Testament scriptures.Those Jews that believedaccording to Christ were his dis-ciples and those that did not,were not of him, Please read;

John 8:31 Then said Jesus tothose Jews which believed onhim, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make youfree. (KJV)

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladlyreceived his word were baptized:and the same day there wereadded unto them about threethousand souls. 42 And theycontinued stedfastly in theapostles’ doctrine and fellow-ship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. see also verses36-41

Acts 14:1 And it came to passin Iconium, that they went bothtogether into the synagogue ofthe Jews, and so spake, that agreat multitude both of the Jewsand also of the Greeks believed.2 But the unbelieving Jewsstirred up the Gentiles, and madetheir minds evil affected againstthe brethren.(KJV)

Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesusneither circumcision availethany thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And asmany as walk according to thisrule, peace be on them, andmercy, and upon the Israel of

God. (KJV)

We must remember according toscripture, Christians cannot bebelievers and hearers of theword only, but must suffer to bedoers, of the Apostle’s Doctrine,Please read; Matt.16:24:

Acts 14:22 22 Confirmingthe souls of the disciples, andexhorting them to continue inthe faith, and that we MUSTthrough much tribulation enterinto the kingdom of God. (Seealso; John12:25-26; Rom.8:16-18; 1Thes.3:1-8; 2Tim.2:11-12;3:12; 1Pet.4:1-2&18)

James 2:18 Yea, a man maysay, Thou hast faith, and I haveworks: shew me thy faith with-out thy works, and I will shewthee my faith by my works. 19Thou believest that there is oneGod; thou doest well: the devilsalso believe, and tremble. 20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?(KJV)

The Apostle’s Doctrine as theywere guided by The Holy Spirit, instruct those of Christ, in howthey are to remember him, please read.

1 Cor 10:16 The cup of bless-ing which we bless, is it not thecommunion of the blood ofChrist? The (1)bread which webreak, is it not the communionof the body of Christ? 17 Forwe being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all par-takers of that one bread. (KJV)

1 Cor 11:23 For I have receivedof the Lord that which also Idelivered unto you, That theLord Jesus the same night inwhich he was betrayed took(1)bread: 24 And when he hadgiven thanks, he brake it, andsaid, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this doin remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also hetook the cup, when he hadsupped, saying, This cup is thenew testament in my blood: thisdo ye, as oft as ye drink it, inremembrance of me. 26 For asoften as ye eat this bread, anddrink this cup, ye do shew theLord’s death till he come.(KJV)

Definition: (1)bread-740 artos(ar’-tos); from 142; bread (asraised) or a loaf: KJV— (shew-)bread, loaf.

We have been looking but, wehave not been able to find in theApostle’s word, Lent, PalmSunday, Good Friday or evenEaster Sunday, which againwould be a CONTRADICTIONand CONFUSION. please read;1 Cor 14:33; thereby makingthem traditions of men.According to scripture, true fol-lowers of Christ “Christians”cannot, MUST not, be followersof traditions and customs, notauthorized by Christ through hisApostles. If we are then, there isa command given please read; IITh 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keepyou from evil. 4 And we haveconfidence in the Lord touchingyou, that ye both do and will dothe things which we commandyou. 5 And the Lord direct yourhearts into the love of God, andinto the patient waiting forChrist. 6 ow we commandyou, brethren, in the name ofour Lord Jesus Christ, that (1)yewithdraw yourselves fromevery brother that (2)walkethdisorderly, and not after the tra-dition which he received of us.

Definitions: (1)ye withdrawyourselves-4724 stello (stel’-lo); probably strengthened fromthe base of 2476; properly, to setfast (“stall”), i.e. (figuratively) torepress (reflexively, abstain fromassociating with): KJV— avoid, withdrawself. (2)walketh 4043peripateo-to walk: b) Hebrewfor, to live 1) to regulate one’slife 2) to conduct oneself 3) topass one’s life

We were able to find Easter“Passover”, not as the Churchobserving it, but the Jews, before being converted to Christ. There is no need for Jews oranyone else to observeEaster/Passover any more.Remember Christ is the end ofthe Law and there is neither Jewnor Greek in Christ Jesus (seeJohn 1:17, Rom.10:1-5). Wemust not frustrate the Grace ofGod, by observing the things ofthe law (seeGal.2:14-21, 3:1-5).We are all one in Christ, if allmust hear obey the law of God’sonly begotten Son(seeJames1:22, Rom.3:27,Gal.6:2), to be right with Himaccording to scriptures, pleaseread.

John 1:17 For the law wasgiven by Moses, but grace andtruth came by JesusChrist.(KJV)

Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart’sdesire and prayer to God forIsrael is, that they might besaved.2 For I bear them record thatthey have a zeal of God, but notaccording to knowledge. 3 Forthey being ignorant of God’srighteousness, and going aboutto establish their own righteous-ness, have not submitted them-selves unto the righteousness ofGod. 4 For Christ is the end ofthe law for righteousness toevery one that believeth. 5 ForMoses describeth the righteous-ness which is of the law, That

the man which doeth thosethings shall live by them.(KJV)

Gal 2:20 I am crucified withChrist: nevertheless I live; yetnot I, but Christ liveth in me:and the life which I now live inthe flesh I live by the faith of theSon of God, who loved me, andgave himself for me. 21 I do notfrustrate the grace of God: forif righteousness come by thelaw, then Christ is dead invain.(KJV)

Those that has been baptizedinto the one Body which is theone Church by the one LordJesus Christ, must know andbelieve according to scripture, there is only one Holy Fatherand He is not on earth John17:11-13. The belief and obedi-ence of Eph 4:4-5 would makeall have the one Spirit of the oneFaith striving to be followers ofChrist “Christians”, after the oneBaptism.

Eph 4:4 There is one body, andone Spirit, even as ye are calledin one hope of your calling;5 One Lord, one faith, onebaptism,(KJV)

Col 1:18 And he is the head ofthe body, the church: who isthe beginning, the firstborn fromthe dead; that in all things hemight have the preeminence.19For it pleased the Father that inhim should all fulness dwell; 20And, having made peace throughthe blood of his cross, by him toreconcile all things unto himself;by him, I say, whether they bethings in earth, or things inheaven.

John 17:11 And now I am nomore in the world, but these arein the world, and I come tothee. Holy Father, keep throughthine own name those whomthou hast given me, that theymay be one, as we are.(KJV)

1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God,and (1)one mediator betweenGod and men, the man ChristJesus; Definition: (1)onemediator-3316 mesites (mes-ee’-tace);from 3319; a go-between, i.e. (simply) an inter-nunciator, or (by implication) areconciler (intercessor): KJV—mediator.1) one who intervenesbetween two, either in order tomake or restore peace andfriendship, or to form a compact,or for ratifying a covenant 2) amedium of communication, aarbitrator

We hope it is scripturally clearon the One Mediator betweenGod and man. There is no oneelse that man can appeal to as amedium of communication, or tomake or restore peace andfriendship, but Christ, Christ,Christ, Christ, Christ. If there isa mediator, between man andChrist, then that would be twomediators between God andman. According to God, Christand his Apostles, there is onlyONE MEDIATOR. If anythingelse is taught, it is not of thetruth and is false Doctrine!

Now to answer the question thatwas asked at the start of thisstudy, “Is The Observance ofEaster, by the Church or anyoneelse, authorized by God throughJesus Christ and his Apostles?”By the one and only HolyFather which is in heaven andhis beloved Son Jesus Christ thatis sitting on his righthand(Mark16:19), the one andonly mediator between Godand man, and through hisApostles’ Doctrine. TheSCRIPTURAL answer is,ABSOLUTELY OT! If any-thing else is taught, it is not ofthe truth and is false Doctrine!Dear reader remember, the pur-pose of these articles is to seekthe TRUTH according to THEWORD, thereby exposingERROR, which is false doctrine, for the purpose of saving oursouls. We believe this is bestdone by definitions and the pre-ponderance of scriptures; whichis having superior weight, force, importance, or influence ofscripture. Again we believe thisallows SCRIPTURE to INTER-PRET SCRIPTURE, therebyallowing a better understandingon that topic. Thanks again foryour interest in the WORD ofTRUTH; GRACE and SALVA-TION; John 17:17-21; Acts20:29-32; James1:21-25. Afterall it is our MAP to HEAVEN,and away from HELL!

2 Cor 13:5 (1)Examine your-selves, whether ye be in thefaith; prove your own selves.Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be (2)reprobates? 6But I trust that ye shall knowthat we are not reprobates.(KJV)

Definitions: (1)Examine your-selves-3985 peirazo (pi-rad’-zo); from 3984; to test (objec-tively), i.e. endeavor, scrutinize,discipline: KJV— assay, exam-ine, go about, prove. (2)repro-bates-96 adokimos (ad-ok’-ee-mos); unapproved, i.e.rejected; by implication, worth-less (literally or morally):KJV— castaway, reprobate.

2 Tim 3:13 But evil men andseducers shall wax worse andworse, deceiving, and beingdeceived. 14 But continue thouin the things which thou hastlearned and hast been assured of,knowing of whom thou hastlearned them; 15 And that froma child thou hast known theholy scriptures, which are ableto make thee wise unto salva-tion through faith which is inChrist Jesus. 16 All scriptureis given by inspiration of God,and is profitable for doctrine, forreproof, for correction, forinstruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may beperfect, throughly furnishedunto all good works. PRECIOUS is Time. Therefore while you have

time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments

for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will

be according as your work has been. You will find

in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must

all appear before the judgement seat of Christ,

that everyone may recive the things done in his

body according to that he hath done, whether it

be good or evil.” You will find in John 15:14. “Ye

are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command

you.” Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5 “A wise man

will hear and will increase learning, and a man of

understanding will attain unto wise counsel.”

How shall we escape if we neglect to great

Salvation: Hebrew 2:1-3 Salvation is to be worked

Dallas, Texas-Longtime Soul

and Blues Legend Ernie Johnson

celebrated his birthday at R L

Blues Palace II during the first

weekend in April. The south

side Dallas Club was jumping

on a Sunday night as more than

300 crammed inside to see the

great Ernie Johnson. Arriving in

a stretched Limo Hummer,

Johnson and close friends made

a splash. R. L. Griffin opened

up with the house band accom-

panied by the legendary Big

Jack Williams on trumpet. Also

on the card was Dallas long time

star Vernon Garrett as he was

backed up by E.J.’s Hot and

Steamy Band.

It was a night to remember as

Johnson simply amazed the

crowd with some of his rendi-

tions of Sam Cooke and Otis

Redding songs as well as some

of his very own famous tunes.

With more than 43 years in the

recording and performing indus-

try Johnson has not lost a step

and is still recording songs after

all these years. “I truly believe

the Lord left me here for that

reason; because so many that

started out with me and before

me have gone on home”.

Johnson looked up and started to

call out names of those who

passed away this year. “Clay

Hammond, Marvin Sease and so

many more, I’m truly blessed to

be able to get on stage and jump

around and I plan to continue”.

Week nights Johnson can be

heard on radio KKDA Soul 73

on 730 AM in the Dallas

Metroplex area. He has the kind

of show that keeps the public

informed about important events

as it relates to the community.

Noted for his community servic-

es, Johnson can be found at bed-

side of the sick and shut-in and

performing tribute songs at

funerals and even singing at the

Home for the Aging. All this

keep Johnson going because he

has never worried about what

people say. One thing is for sure

no one performs with a more

heart filled spirit than Johnson.

That’s why we feel so good

about his newest release

“Congratulations Mr. President”

a song he did in honor of

President Barack Obama for his

passing of the Health Care Bill.

“We needed that King, at our

age and to be honest with you I

never thought I would live to see

an African American become

President of the United States of

America, the Lord has blessed

me and I’m forever grateful”.

If you think you saw something

when Johnson did his family

show at Fiesta the past five

years, wait until you see his

adult version of the same show.

Happy Birthday E. J. and we

hope you have many more to

come!

Monroe, Louisiana-Longtime

Soul and Blues legend Ernie

Johnson who now makes his

home in Dallas, Texas went way

back home on April 9, 2011. A

native of Winnsboro, Louisiana

Johnson traveled to his humble

upbringing to chat with current

Mayor Jackie Johnson. Johnson

was accompanied by his sister

Ella Shaw and it was an excel-

lent opportunity for Johnson to

see family members. But the

trip also took on a business side

as well as Johnson also called a

meeting with Mayor Johnson of

Winnsboro and Mayor Reggie

Beckwith of Tallulah, Louisiana

along with longtime Winnsboro

native Jimmy Carr. Needless to

say the King made the trip and

sat in on the meeting with hopes

of Johnson having an opportuni-

ty to be part of the Annual Cat

Fish Festival. The Winnsboro

festival celebrated 25 years and

drew some 23,000 people this

time around.

It was an honor to visit with the

Mayors and talk of promoting a

show in the area or simply

bringing Johnson and his Hot

and Steamy Band down to

Louisiana to be part of their

show.

We made a stop by radio station

KJMG 97.3-Magic 97-FM and

talked on the air with the leg-

endary disc jockey P.P. W. That

was an excellent opportunity for

us to promote Johnson’s latest

two releases “I’m the one you

need” and “Congratulations Mr.

President” a hit single with a

bonus track “I remember J. T.”.

Congratulations Mr. President is

a song Johnson wrote to praise

President Barack Obama for his

passing of the Health Care Bill.

While I remember J T is a song

Johnson penned to honor his

longtime friend the late Johnnie

Taylor.

All things considered the trip

was well worthwhile and

Johnson feels he made some

new friends and renewed some

old ones. Fact is Johnson actu-

ally ran into one of the guys he

picked cotton for way back in

the fifties.

Perhaps the most exciting thing

for Ernie on the trip was going

to Monroe and visiting with his

kin folks the Hunter family. For

those who don’t know Johnson

is a close cousin to the late Ivory

Joe Hunter who wrote and per-

formed the big hit “Since I Lost

My Baby” in the fifties and was

noted along with Antonio “Fats”

Domino as two of the greatest

keyboard players of all-times.

Many of the hit songs had those

two guys on piano during that

era. It was from Hunter E. J.

became interested in singing.

“Seeing him come home with a

brief case full of money certain-

ly motivated me”. Johnson sat

quietly at the Piano the late

Hunter played his way into the

history books at his cousin home

on Monroe. Overcome with

emotion Johnson still managed

to get his niece Janice to snap a

shot of him with the world

famous piano. Fact is the people

of Monroe had a special event

and they honored Hunter for his

success in the recording industry

just a couple of week before

Johnson made the trip to

Monroe.

As we wind down to the end of

another school year, we had the

pleasure of meeting an interest-

ing young man for our Fiesta

Student of the week. This time

around it’s the handsome and

talented young man David

Chaney. The son of Chanzette

and David Chaney Sr. is major-

ing in civil engineering. Soon

the graduate with a BS degree,

David made it clear he wasn’t

expected to do so well. “Sure I

use to wear braids and in order

to cheer with the Tigers under

Mrs. Alice Rodgers I had to cut

my braids, but that’s alright”.

The talented youngster went to

add he loves reading and he has

followed the teaching of

Malcolm X, along with other

interesting people in our history.

“Once I got started reading a lot,

my only regret was I didn’t start

sooner. Fact is reading poems

and all good reading as it deals

with our history is a plus for this

student.

Having a chance to travel is a

plus for Chaney and he said he

wished TSU would bring back

the BET college tour so the stu-

dents can experience other

things in life. “Since I’ve been

on the cheering team we have

traveled to New York and many

other places and it’s an honor for

a student like me to experience

that kind of traveling”.

Graduating in the top percent of

his class from Dallas Hillcrest

High School, Chaney said he has

made the most of his stay at

TSU and will definitely graduate

in May with a BS degree. “Yes

sir it’s nice to have a degree in

Civil Engineering, but my main

goal in life is to be able to help

people and share some love

throughout the world.

That moved us to the next ques-

tion of what has it meant to have

President Barack Obama

become the first African

American President of the

United States of America. “It’s

is simply wonderful sir, because

it goes to show what can happen

when you put your mind to

doing something”. Chaney went

on to say some TSU students

had their Pell Grants dropped

this year and some actually

blame the President for that, but

by in large it has been wonderful

having him as our commanding

chief”. Showing a very proud

smile, David added he felt

watching the president on ESPN

picking the Final Four teams

showed he is human. “I think it

was cool to see the President

taking time to share in the

NCAA Final Four because it

showed he was interested in

what was going on with students

in college”. He added passing

the Health Care Bill was a great

thing to do.

When asked about the War in

Iraq, Chaney made it clear he

feels the President is doing just

about as well as anyone could

under the circumstances.

Describing himself as a mild

mannered outgoing young man

who puts God first in his life

David said; “Let me refer to

Romans Chapter 8 and the 28

verse “All things works out for

the good”. So when things get a

little rough for him he goes to

that scripture and everything is

fine.

On Sundays you’ll find David

down at Wheeler Avenue Baptist

Church and he explained why.

“The pastor Dr. Marcus D.

Cosby goes into detail to make

sure you get the message”.

We moved on to talk with David

about the pressures of working

with such beautiful girls on the

Cheerleading team at TSU.

“You have to keep it business

because of the respect and admi-

ration we have for each other,

plus this is such a great group of

students to be working with”.

In closing David had a great

quote for us and it goes like this.

“A smart man learns from his

mistakes, but a wise man learns

from the world’s mistakes”. We

commend the Chaney’s on a job

well done on raising their son

and we know he will do very

well in life!

When he has been called upon,

Riko Smalls has delivered even

in the Texas Southern University

Tigers SWAC championship

game. With four quarterbacks in

camp this year most figure he’ll

will get the nod. “We are all

even and sure I passed for two

touchdowns today, but we work

as a team and nothing is given,

everything is earned”.

Dantavious Parker hit Joe

Anderson for the Maroon first

team’s first score. Smalls found

Richard Samuel twice for the

other scores in the 21-0 shutout

win. “You have to compete to

earn your spot and that makes us

better”. The Tigers are ready to

roll even though they will have a

target on their backs. “Sir, I’m

very confident in our younger

players because we have a lot of

people back on defense and

offense”. Smalls went on to say

the offense is looking to match

the 212 degrees of the defense

so they can repeat as champs.

“We have some pretty good

leaders on this squad and we

have a solid offensive back field

(Deshon Daniels, Martin Gilbert,

Randall Newsome, and Marcus

Wright Jr.)”. Smalls went on to

say it’s a blessing to be the quar-

terback with an offense like

TSU. “We have a good offensive

line and talent on the edges and

a defense that gets three and

outs all game long”

In closing Smalls says the Tigers

are more than ready and certain-

ly capable of defending their

SWAC championship.

Our King-Size Mover and

Shaker for the month of April is

Mya Chenelle Cardenas. Mya is

the youngest of 7 children.

There are 5 girls and 2 boys in

her family. She was a cheer-

leader at Texas Southern

University (TSU) for 4 years

and was the Head Cheerleader

for 2 ½ years. She has been fea-

tured on the cover and highlight-

ed in our newspaper on many

occasions.

Mya will be graduating from

Texas Southern University in

May with a degree in Health

Education. She has gained a lot

of experience since attending

(TSU) over the last 4 years. In

addition to her duties as a stu-

dent and cheerleader, she works

as a Community assistant and

Leasing Agent on campus.

Currently, she is also a Secretary

to the Athletic Director, a Sales

Associate for James Avery

Craftsman, and a Pharmaceutical

Sales Intern for

GlaxoSmithKline. Mya types 40

words per minute; she is profi-

cient in Microsoft Word,

Microsoft Excel, and

PowerPoint. Additionally, she is

an excellent communicator. She

has done all of these things

while maintaining a 3.2 G.P.A.

As you can see, she is a very tal-

ented and driven young lady. In

additional to those qualities, she

is also a great leader, friendly,

and an athlete. King Arthur and

I both agree that cheerleaders

are sometimes the best athletes

on any campus.

Her goal is to become a pharma-

ceutical sales representative

upon graduating from TSU.

We are truly proud and honored

to have Mya as this month’s

Mover and Shaker, mainly

because this is only the begin-

ning for a young lady who will

definitely make her mark in life.

Dr. Victor Keys reporting for A

This column was inspired by the fact

the Texas Southern University Tigers

won the Southwestern Athletic

Conference championship and the

receiving core kind of got lost in the

shuffle. Richard Samuel says they

worked extra hard and any time a

defensive back bites on the run ‘we

are going to get behind them and go

for the touchdown’. Well that hap-

pened twice in the Annual Maroon

and Gray games and the fleeted

receiver got free and scored twice to

help the Maroon team win the con-

test 21-0. “We made a promise to

coach Darrell Colbert we were going

to be the best on the team. Colbert is

TSU all-time leading receiver now

coaches the receiver for the defend-

ing SWAC champs. If you recall

Colbert was on the 1982 state cham-

pionship Beaumont Westbrook

Squad and after his TSU days he

played in the NFL with the Kansas

City Chiefs. “He has taught some

good things and our receivers are

going to make a great showing this

year”.

Being a small receiver Samuel added

coach Colbert makes the guys com-

pete for playing time. “We all start-

ed out equal and we have to earn

playing time and when you are small

you have to come to play”. Having

won the SWAC championship last

year the Tigers will certainly have a

target on their backs. “Yes sir, we

are ready to wear that target proudly

and defend our SWAC champi-

onship”.

But the honor student went on to say

the championship ring has motivated

the Tigers to go for the National

Black College football title this year.

“That ring has started something

with us and we have worked harder

than ever in the off season and

believe me sir, we will be ready

come September 10th.

In closing Samuel added the Tigers

have a lot of talent and can do even

better than last year’s team. “We can

set records and win the national title

and perhaps be the best in TSU his-

tory.

As he continues to make the record books,

Texas Southern University defensive back

Darveon Trahan is catching the coach’s eyes

at TSU. He had an outstanding game in the

Tigers Maroon and Gray game making some

big plays. Trahan a sophomore from Jack

Yates High School is one of two players to

start at Jack Yates at the quarterback position

for three years. He is also one of the few

players in JY history to play varsity all four

years. Now for his outstanding efforts on the

defensive side of the football he is now one of

only five players to win the Fiesta Athlete of

the week and to be the winner of the defen-

sive player of the week also.

Gaining a few pounds and more or less filling

out Trahan who won all three of the BBMC

games against Booker T. Washington while at

Yates, is turning the coach’s heads at TSU.

He has a nose for the ball and has great

instincts said coach Kevin Ramsey. His

teammates like his soft smooth but hard hit-

ting approach to the game. Working hard is

nature for Trahan but he admitted it great to

be looked upon as a role model for the kids

who are coming to Yates after him.

Playing at TSU, Trahan says it was wonderful

to be on the SWAC championship team

because he is the first of graduating class at

Yates to be on a conference winning team.

“Now I’m looking forward to not just watch-

ing but being able to play on a team that can

repeat as SWAC champions”.

When asked about Coach Ramsey who was

the defensive coordinator on last year’s Tigers

SWAC championship team, Trahan was very

serious. “Coach Ramsey is great to play for

because he teaches you step by step and he

listens to your questions and tells you what

mistakes you are making and how to correct

them”.

A few of the well known defensive standouts

from TSU are moving on to NFL camps, but

they have not forgotten about the guys who

are still at TSU. “After they finish with their

NFL workouts, they come over to our practice

and give up pointers on things we need to

work on”.

In closing Trahan added that being from Third

Ward and having played at Yates ‘people can

use me as an example that everything in Third

Ward is not bad’.

athletics director Dr. Charles

McClelland announced Jocelyn

Adams as TSU’s new volleyball

head coach.

Adams coached volleyball on the

high school and college NCAA

Division I level. The Houston

native is currently the head coach

at Eisenhower High School

where her teams won back to

back Bi-District Championships

in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Before joining Eisenhower,

Adams was the volleyball head

coach at Prairie View A&M from

1990-1999. While at PV, Adams’

1992 team captured the SWAC

Championship Tournament Title.

Adams is a 1983 graduate of

Smiley High School and she

earned her undergrad and masters

degrees in Health and Physical

Education from Prairie View

A&M in 1987 & 1992 respectful-

ly. She was also named SWAC

Coach of the Year in 2008 &

2009.

Adams left PV in 1999 to raise a

family. She returned to coaching

in 2004. “This is a great opportu-

nity for me,” Adams said. “I’m

excited about coming back after

being away so long. I look for-

ward to changing the culture of

TSU volleyball and getting the

program back to its prominence

of the late 80s and early 90s.”

Adams’ first passion was track

where she was an 8-time All-

American, SWAC Champion and

National Champion when she

competed at Prairie View.

Dr. Mark Cousins, UIL Director

of Policy since February 2009,

has been named Director of

Athletics for the University

Interscholastic League, it was

announced today.

Cousins, who has served as

interim Director of Athletics

since January 2011, will oversee

and coordinate UIL athletic

activities and reclassification

and realignment.

“I am excited to continue in the

role of Director of Athletics and

carry on serving the students of

Texas in this capacity,” said

Cousins. “I am honored to take

on this opportunity, and look

forward to the new challenges

that lie ahead.”

Cousins began his career at the

UIL in 1994 while completing

his master’s degree from The

University of Texas at Austin.

He also completed his doctorate

degree while working at the

UIL, and has gained a unique

perspective working in the ath-

letic department over the years.

He served as director of several

sports prior to his appointment

as UIL Director of Policy. He

has served on the National

Federation of State High School

Associations (NFHS) Wrestling

Rules Committee, Soccer Rules

Committee and Baseball Rules

Committee. He is a member of

the Texas High School Coaches

Association and the Texas Girls

Coaches Association.

Cousins is a graduate of Buna

High School, where he partici-

pated in several UIL events.

While attending The University

of Texas at Austin, he served as

a student assistant with the foot-

ball program and worked in the

Texas Legislature as a messen-

ger for the Senate Sergeant-at-

Arms.

“Dr. Mark Cousins has an exten-

sive knowledge of the UIL

Constitution & Contest Rules

and a great understanding of

UIL athletic programs,” said

UIL Executive Director Dr.

Charles Breithaupt. “I have

complete faith in Dr. Cousins in

this new role, and I know that

his leadership will help UIL ath-

letics continue to succeed in the

coming years.”

The Texas Southern University

football Tigers played their

annual Maroon and Gray game

in an effort to get ready to

defend their SWAC champi-

onship title. This year’s team

will be under the leadership of

interim head coach Kevin

Ramsey. Among the top players

coming back on defense is

Marquis Jackson a tough defen-

sive end and one of the team’s

top defenders. We spoke with

Jackson about the Tigers

chances to repeat as champs.

“All I can do is lead by example,

so I’m going to play hard and

speak up when I need to so the

younger guys will play well

also”. The hard working defen-

sive end loves to hit and gets his

team fired out. We couldn’t help

but ask him about their meeting

with Grambling State with the

return of Doug Williams. “I

hope they are ready for us

because we don’t want any weak

games, so this time we don’t

plan on having to come from 14

points down to beat them”.

Showing a smile on his face

Jackson added they will just

have to beat Grambling at

Robinson Stadium this time

around.

Looking ahead to the defense,

Jackson added he feels under the

leadership of Coach Kevin

Ramsey they will be ready to

play true to what they believe in

and the offense will also display

the toughness coach Ramsey

asks for from the defense.

“Everybody is going to be fired

up at 212 degrees and we are

ready to defend our champi-

onship”.

In closing Jackson added the

team is showing ‘we are buying

into what coach Ramsey is say-

ing and that‘s all it takes to win

games!

As far as the score goes 21-0

was the count as Joe Anderson

grabbed a pass from Dantavious

Parker for one score and Riko

Smalls hit Richard Samuel twice

with scoring passes for the first

team’s other points. Receivers

Richard Samuel and Donnie

Davison along with Micah

Tillotson all got in some good

work.

The offensive line went all 72

plays and Coach Ramsey was

pleased with effort they put

forth. Cohren Alexander,

Donvan Stevenson, Marvin

Hollie Jr., Daryl Stevenson,

Jared Benton, Kenneth Hall,

Magnus Gray and Josh

Redmond are the linemen listed

on the preseason rooster.

Among the defensive standouts

were Jonathan Hollins, and Tyler

Crane along with former Yates

quarterback Darveon Trahan.

Over all we liked what we saw

and the Tigers are on the move

to defend their SWAC champi-

onship. While looking at their

schedule the National Black

College Championship is also in

sight!

It’s been four years since a

freshman from Killeen Harker

Height High School decided he

wanted to play football at Texas

Southern University. At some

point he had to be figuring it’s

going to be tough after that team

with 0-11. “My thinking was

God brought me here for a rea-

son and I decided to stick it

out”. When he picked off a pass

against Grambling State before

8,500 Fans at Delmar and an

ESPN U crowd it was well

worth it. The win gave the

Tigers the Western Conference

title. Fulghum went on to walk

away with the SWAC Defensive

player of the year along with the

SWAC Championship Player of

the year award along with the

Sheridan Broadcasting Network

Player of the Year as well. The

outstanding middle linebacker

called the defensive signals for

the Tigers as was one of the

team’s top tacklers’ year in and

year out. He clearly proved he

earned all the honors that were

bestowed upon him.

We ran into Dejuan and kind of

summed it all up. “Yes sir, I’d

say I went out with a bang for

my senior year, but it was a lot

of ups and downs here at TSU”.

Fulghum reflected back to losing

to P.V. to start the season and

regrouping against Texas

College before losing to

Tuskegee before getting it all

together and running the table

on the SWAC. “I think we came

together as a team from the

Tuskegee loss”. Going 0-11 in

his freshmen season, Fulghum

said he knew they could only get

better because the program had

hit rock bottom. Now a few

years later he has set a new stan-

dard for the program and small

linebackers in general. “You

can’t measure a player’s heart by

his size and I have carried termi-

nation all through my college

career”.

Moving on to the next level is

not going to be easy for

Fulghum but he understands

that. “The NFL is a long

process and I’ve been training

countless hours in preparation

and had some good numbers on

my pro day for my position”.

He is now waiting for teams to

give him a call for the opportu-

nity to play on Sundays.

Even with the cloud of NCAA

investigation hanging over TSU

football program head, Fulghum

has certainly set a new standard

for others to follow with the pro-

gram. “It is my first champi-

onship and it’s been truly amaz-

ing and it means the world to

me”. Getting a degree in

accounting in May, Fulghum is

certainly bright enough to repre-

sent pro football players even if

he is not signed by NFL teams.

“I’ve taken graduate level cours-

es and I plan to get my Masters

and become a C.P.A. and will

keep the door open for other

opportunities.

From the first time we saw

Dejuan without talking to him I

knew he was a winner and he is

going to do well in whatever

arena the future holds for him!

Moving into my 30th year of

covering Metro-Houston area

sports we could help but think

when we ran into Curtis Thomas

at the Texas Southern University

spring game. The graduating

senior safety had just returned

from his workout with Houston,

Texans. My mind went back to

1999 when we begged Houston

Astros to show some interest in

a kid from Jeff Davis High

School named Carl Crawford.

My cries fell on deaf ears and

the rest is history.

Fast forwarding to the Houston,

Texans off season following

their worse in NFL history

defense, we find ourselves call-

ing out to Wade Phillips and the

Texans coaching staff to take a

long look at Curtis Thomas. A

Houston native and Aldine grad-

uate who went off to Minnesota

before transferring to TSU.

While at Minnesota he played

with Texan safety Dominic

Barber so a presence has been

set for the Texans to the do the

right thing and pick this kid.

Not to mention the fact he is 205

pounds and hits like a load of

bricks and still had the level

headiness to handle the NFL

playbook.

We talked with Thomas during

the spring football game about

the SWAC winning season. “We

knew TSU had an outstanding

history but for some reason just

couldn’t get over the hump”.

Thomas went on to add once

coach Kevin Ramsey came in

they knew if they followed his

principles style of coaching it

would take us where we wanted

to go”. In the game against

Texas College Thomas really

shined picking off three passes

and returning two of them for

touchdowns in a TSU blowout

win. The Tigers went to run the

table all the way through to the

SWAC title game in

Birmingham and brought back

the SWAC title. “Growing up

you want to play on ESPN and it

can help you get some politick-

ing for the NFL, but I would not

change the road I took going to

Minnesota before coming to

TSU”. “No sir, I would not

change a thing because coming

to TSU and working under

coach Ramsey and being part of

a defense that finished first

nationally and to be part of the

first SWAC championship in a

long time (1968).

Looking forward to the next

level, Thomas says he ready and

he actually was amazing to the

staff at the Houston Texans.

“It’s a blessing for me because

some scouts say I looked better

than some of the guys they had

projected to go higher than me”.

Thomas made it clear he played

with Dominic Barber while at

Minnesota and felt he had the

talent to play big time college

football all along. “It was truly

amazing to go into the camp and

perform well coming from a

smaller program, but I feel real

good about my chances. “We

were trained to go into these

workouts with a positive mind

set and the Texans just love what

they saw, so we will just wait

and see in the next couple of

weeks”.

Having watched Gary Kubiak

grow up at M.D. Anderson

YMCA on the corner of

Cavalcade and Irvington we just

know he will be able to see the

talent in Thomas and give this

kid a shot. Lord knows he will

make the most of the opportuni-

ty!

I’ll be completely honest with

everyone. I saw all this econom-

ic mess coming a long time ago.

The whole problem was the

homes were overpriced and peo-

ple that should not have been

granted home loans were. This

was bound to happen when

money got tight for everyone.

Now look at the mess that sadly,

I’ll along with many of you will

dead and gone and our economy,

along with high unemployment

will still be front page news for

decades to come. Now Big John,

this is a sports column and in

particular, a high school sports

column. Why are you talking

about the national economy?

Because the lack of employment

has directly affected the budgets

of high school middle schools

and youth athletic programs

nationwide. It is going to be

tough with the massive budget

cuts not to see athletic depart-

ments stay above Water. It is

scary at the numbers that we’re

hearing but the truth must be

told and I’m simply going to

have to be truthful. I’ve spoken

to several coaches off the record

and they simply are preparing

for worst. Some coaches will be

laid off, some programs will be

cut or lose financial support that

will case major cuts and some

program will be eliminated.

There is no reason to believe

that these things won’t occur

over the next several months.

Schools districts around the state

are preparing to close these

deficits any way they can. I

understand that because I like so

many others have had to cut

back on some things I like to do

financially I can’t afford to do at

the present time. But could any

of us imagine seeing athletic

departments making deep cuts to

solve budget deficits? How

about our young athletes? How

do we explain to them that their

sports have been removed from

the department? How do we as

adults explain their favorite

coach is out of a job? How do

we explain that the amount of

games in the season has been

cancelled and/or cutback due the

high gasoline prices? I wonder

about all of this and can’t come

up with a logical answer for any

of these simple questions. Please

believe me there are more ques-

tions that I have time to write

about at this present moment.

Athletics are important to the

development of a young person.

I can look back at my adult life

and see how athletics prepared

me to deal with all types of

problems that I have experi-

enced over the years. I learned

to communicate with friends and

enemies and please believe I

wouldn’t have lasted on this

planet as an adult if I didn’t

learn how to talk. I have learned

to win modestly and lose grace-

fully. I wonder what will happen

over the next several months as

school districts attempt to for-

mulate budgets that help them

break even. This dear readers is

not going to be easy. But to

quote my dearly departed moth-

er, ‘life’s not easy; it’s just as the

word states-life!

That’s just the way I see it!

This is 5th year the Professional

Golf Association (PGA) has

stopped in Houston just before

the Masters Tournament. Players

from all over the world arrived

in Houston to tee it up but, lefty

Phil Mickelson came away the

2011 winner.

It was a great week of sports in

Houston, at Reliant Stadium

March Madness was in full

effect and basketball fans could

enjoy the NCAA Men’s

Basketball Championship. On

the north side we had the Shell

Houston Open and it was the

SHO!!!

The Shell Houston Open tourna-

ment consists of a week of fun

activities and fund raising events

(March 28-April 3, 2011).

The Pro-Am kicked everything

off on Monday. On Tuesday, the

professionals got in a practice

round and there was a Junior

Golf Skills Competition. This

year a few of the Houston

Texans were on hand to partici-

pate in this event. Quarterbacks

Matt Schaub, and Dan Orlovsky,

Wide Receiver Kevin Walter,

and Guard Mike Brisiel were

paired with professional golfers

and junior golfers from the First

Tee program of Greater Houston

Redstone. It was a grand event

for all especially for the junior

golfers. There was a large

gallery of fans, cameras, parents,

and students from surrounding

First Tee school programs. Once,

the competition was over, the

pros and juniors signed auto-

graphs until the last fan left the

golf course.

In addition to all the fun, funds

were raised for charities in the

greater Houston Area. For 16

consecutive years local charities

have received million-dollar-plus

funding from the net proceeds of

the Shell Houston Open and the

Houston Golf association’s other

golf-related activities. The Acres

Home Youth Association is just

one of the charity organizations

to receive money from the Shell

Houston Open. The Shell

Houston Open and the Houston

Golf Association has also donat-

ed $500,000 in academic schol-

arships since 1996.

Normally, I volunteer my servic-

es each year mainly because, I

love golf. Next year, if you’re

not doing anything get out there

to the SHO, you’ll love every

minute of it.

Hey Houston, what have you done lately

to make that special someone feel really

special? You don’t always have to wait

for that special occasion to do something

nice for the one you care about. It does-

n’t always have to be anything big or

expensive. Guys try twelve single roses

at twelve different times, top that off with

a just because card, or some Godiva

chocolates, or even their favorite candy

bar will do wonders, try it sometimes.

I’m talking to the fellas right now

because we need the most help.

Sometimes we take our women for grant-

ed. If they are working just like you and

they are still able prepare a meal the least

you can do is clean the kitchen, and don’t

forget to say thank you. Thank you are

two words that can do wonders when it

comes to our loved ones, but somehow it

seems to get lost in the wash and I don’t

mean the laundry which we should do

from time time. If you think about it a lot

of times we tend to do things for other

people before we do for those we love.

Have you ever been talking to your mate

and things aren’t quite right, and Sally

sue or Barney Joe calls, they go into a

whole different mode, talking, smiling,

and even laughing like nothing is wrong.

Then when the call or visit is over they

go back to aggravated state. Sally joe

might want your man to get her cat out of

the tree, well you should take care of

your cat first. Sometimes we forget to

treat the other person the way we want to

be treated. Put yourself in the other per-

sons place, would that set well with you.

Another thing we shouldn’t do, and that

is to hold grudges. A lot of times we hold

grudges for days, weeks and even years.

Sounds silly, well it is, and sometimes

what put us in that mode was probably

even sillier. I remember my dad telling

me to try and never go to sleep at night

with out trying to set things right. So go

the extra step and do something special

for the one that you love, it will just make

things better. On a recent In the Love

Corner we discussed “Is Love Real”, of

course it is. It’s out there and if you find

it you should hold on to it. Sometimes

what we think is love, really isn’t, so be

cautious when it comes to matters of the

heart. Sometimes we confuse infatuation,

or even obsession with love. Nobody

said it would be easy, it could actually be

down right complicated but you won’t

know if don’t try. Make sure you are

tuned in on Wednesdays at 8pm for In the

Love Corner, with my co host Carletta,

and you can also check me out on

Facebook as I discuss topics on love and

relationships. Go to Stevie Goodtime T

After being noted for being one

of the top defensive minds in the

country Kevin Ramsey was

named interim head football

coach at Texas Southern

University on April 1, 2011.

The word is he will have the

opportunity to run the team for

the entire 2011 season after then

a permanent coach will be

named. It’s my understanding

Ramsey plans to make the most

of his opportunity and get the

job after the season. We went

over to see what the Tigers had

on the annual spring game day.

They came out looking pretty

good and a decent crowd came

out to watch on a beautiful day.

The Maroon team won the con-

test 21-0 but Coach Ramsey

liked what he saw on both sides

of the ball. “My hats are off to

the offensive line because those

seven guys played the whole 72

snaps. We had to spell them, that

slowed our tempo a little but

they worked hard”. Ramsey

went on to praise receiver

Richard Samuel as a leader in

the Tigers receiving core.

Having a pretty good showing

from Dantavious Parker and

Riko Smalls at quarterback

warmed Coach Ramsey heart as

well. “As we go into out sum-

mer season our kids are going to

continue to work hard and get

stronger and faster as we pull

together in August.

On the other side of the ball

Ramsey praised linebacker Tyler

Crane and defensive back

Darveon Trahan the former

quarterback from Jack Yates.

With Doug Williams back at

Grambling State and Melvin

Spears now the head football

coach at Alcorn State the SWAC

can’t help but get tougher.

“There’s no doubt about that, so

we are telling our guys we are

raising the bar and a break goes

against us we just have to pour

on more steam”. By the time the

team gets to August they will be

bigger and stronger and ready to

take on the tough SWAC chal-

lenge.

As we talked more about the

workout with Coach Ramsey we

learned he was really excited

about the play of linebacker

Tyler Crane. “You know we lost

the SWAC Defensive player of

the year in Dejuan Fulghum to

graduation so it was great to see

Tyler getting after people all

over the field”. He went to add

seeing young Darveon Trahan

coming up and smacking TSU

backs is another good sign for

the defensive group. The excited

coach went on to thank the com-

munity and student body as well

as the administration for the sup-

port of the Tigers football pro-

gram.

In closing Coach Ramsey said

first of all he is going to get

together with the players who

have the academic down pat

and evaluate our team from that

standpoint first, but the most

important thing first is to get our

class work done, then we will

see who will be in the starting

lineup and all that stuff.

Starting out as a three-time All-

Missouri Valley pick at defen-

sive back while at Indiana State

Ramey made second team All-

American as a senior and even

played baseball for the

Sycamores. Graduating in 1984

with a degree in Physical

Education, Ramsey a native of

East St. Louis is married. He

and his wife Doreen have four

daughters Kejavia, Samiya,

Tresnae and Amariell.

Being a winner everywhere he

has gone Ramsey’s team have

always finished among the top

in the nation in total defense. So

it’s no wonder why he lead

TSU’s defense to such a great

finish. From 2001-2003 Ramsey

was the defensive back field

coach for the Arizona Cardinals

of the NFL, He worked with the

linebackers from 87-90 at

Kansas State before moving over

to Northwestern from 1990-

1993. Taking advantage of serv-

ing as an intern with the

Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay

Ramsey took teams from East

Tennessee, Georgia and West

Virginia to big time Bowls. He

went on to coach at Carson-

Newman as defensive co-coordi-

position at TSU.

Needless to say he is certainly

long overdue to get a head

coaching position and I don’t

mean just as an interim either!

It is with deepest sadness

that we say goodbye to a

Dr. Gordon dedicated

of community projects, in

of the work of his

Born on the first day of

November in 1903 Don Robey

was destined to be more than

your average Joe. The fact that

his mother was Caucasian and

his father African American,

Robey would grow up having a

feeling for both sides of the

fence. It would seem from all

stories Don had a talent for giv-

ing people what they wanted.

So when things did go well for

him in school he moved to

California and learned to run a

night club. In the mid-forties he

return to Houston and started the

Bronze Peacock Dinner Club

located at 2809 Erastus in Firth

ward. It was there Robey met

the late Clarence “Gatemouth”

Brown who was filling in for the

ill T-Bone Walker. He went on

to help Gatemouth Brown to get

a record deal on the west coast.

Aggravated by the fact no hits

came from that Robey started

Peacock Records in 1949. He

went on to start Buffalo Booking

Agency and three years later he

merged with Duke Records out

of Memphis, Tennessee. In 1953

Robey bought out Dave Mattis

and took over the label and their

acts. This set him in motion as

he gathered the services of leg-

ends Johnny Ace and Roscoe

Gordon. Ace quickly got to the

top of the charts and in

December of 1954 met with an

untimely death in a game of

Russian Roulette at the

Houston’s City Auditorium. But

for Robey and his growing com-

pany Ace death made him even

more popular and his record

simply started jumping off the

shelves.

It was right about that time

Robey directed his attention to

another fellow named Robert

Calvin Brooks who came to him

along with Duke. Brooks a

native of Rosemark, Tennessee

had spent time as a parking

attendant and got to meet a fel-

low named Perry King. As most

of you know Brooks begin to

use the name Bobby “Blue”

Bland and King simply called

himself B.B. King short for

Blues Boy King. On the Blues

Chart Bland begin with super

hits such as “I’ll take care of

You” written by the late Brook

Benton and “Turn on your love

light”, “Ain’t that loving you”

and the immortal “Stormy

Monday” to a name a few.

Rolling in the dough Robey

turned it on as started two more

labels Sure Shot and Back Beat.

He also hired the lovely and tal-

ented Evelyn Johnson to run his

booking agency and some of the

industry best staff in Dave Clark

and Irving Marcus in sales and

some of the nation’s top produc-

ers and arrangers in Joe Scott,

Bill Harvey and Johnny Oits.

Making hits after hits Robey had

the services of “Willie Mae “Big

Mama” Thornton and the mega

hit Hound Dog that was later

done by Elvis Pressley.

By that time he focused on the

Gospel side and signed some of

the top acts including The Dixie

Hummingbirds, the Mighty

Clouds of Joy, The Sensational

Nightingales, the Five Blind

Boys of Mississippi, Rev.

Cleophus Robinson, and

Christland Singers that featured

R. H. Harris the original lead

singer of the Soul Stirrers.

Robey also had the O’Neal

Twins and the late great Rev.

Leo Daniels as he continued to

dominate the industry from right

here in Houston, Texas.

Moving right along Robey built

a hotel for his acts to stay when

recording and performing and he

had them all on salary so he

could control his spending.

Song writers from all over the

country were coming to Houston

bringing him songs and he paid

them small amounts making big-

ger profits for his company.

Still watching the Blues side

Robey then signed O.V. Wright

and Joe Hinton to contracts

along with Rob Roys country

singer/guitarist Roy Head and

the Traits.

RCA records bought out Sam

Cooke’s label in the early 60s

and Berry Gordy was just get-

ting cranked up on Motion and

he followed the lead set by

Robey and made a fortune with

the Temptations and others.

In 1973 Don Robey sold Duke-

Peacock Records and all 2,700

songs to ABC Dunhill and

remained on as a consultant until

June 16, 1975 when he passed

away. During the 1980s MCA

purchased all ABC Record cata-

logs that included the Robey

legacy.

Be sure and follow King-Size

View for a long look at Don

Robey as we gather information

from people who knew him best.

At some point we will be able to

lead a fight to give Robey his

due for what is truly a pioneer-

ing spirit and a story certainly

worth telling!

Just glancing over the cover of

the Houston Chronicle on

Saturday morning April 16, 2011

we saw a story written by

Andrew Dansby. The subject

matter was one we had long to

know more about. So photogra-

pher Andre Odums and I went

over there to see what the mark-

er was all about. Thanks to the

efforts of Dr. James Ford Jr. who

grew up on Historic Fifth Ward

and Debra Blacklock-Sloan of

the HCHC a marker was placed

at the building located 4120

Lyons Avenue, the site of one of

the late Don Robey’s offices.

Dr. Roger Wood a historian was

on hand and he brought along

the legendary Texas Johnny

Brown who spoke very highly of

Mr. Robey. Fact of the matter is

Zenobia Robey-Murphy, the

only living sister of Don Robey

as well as his daughter Dr.

DonaLeah Robey-Fields both

came out for the services. A

wonderful looking marker is

now if front of the Louis Robey

Professional building where Dr.

Robey practiced medicine until

his death a few years ago. He

was the son of the late Don

Robey.

Many family members and peo-

ple who worked for the leg-

endary Robey in one form or

another showed up to take part

in the ceremonies. One such

person is former Boxing

Promoter Robert Turner who

Robey took under his wing and

taught him the promoting side of

the entertainment industry.

In the next edition we will talk

with Robert Turner and many

more as we try to give some

form of respect for a legend that

set a new standard in the record-

ing industry and pioneered the

way business is run until this

very day.
