He was an eloquent speaker, an intellectual and a loving Pastor. Even after so many years, Der Hayr is continually remembered for his exemplary and faithful service to our community. Our condolences to Yn. Carmen, Vatche, his wife Christine, Hagop and the entire Tashjian family. May our Heavenly Father send His Holy Spirit to give them comfort. May our Lord Jesus illuminate his soul and rank Der Hayr among the saints at His right hand.

Vol. LI No. 8 September 2016

Archpriest Dr. Mesrob Tashjian

The final consecration (Extreme Unction) which took place on Friday, July 29th, at 10 am during the Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale, California, was visibly emotionally moving for Der Hayr's family and everyone present. After Der Hayr was anointed by His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan, Srpazan and the clergy present sang a sharagan (hymn) as if the words were being said by Der Mesrob himself. In the Hymn, Der Hayr is saying: "greetings Holy Altar, greetings ranks of priests, I have gone to my Creator." He continues, by greeting his flock, saying that he has gone to be with Jesus, the hope of the world. He ends by giving his prayers and blessing. It was truly a moving service and I could not help to think that Der Mesrob was also with his flock in Providence that morning before the Altar at Sts. Vartanantz Church where he served for more than thirty- eight years.

The love and respect that the parishioners of Sts. Vartanantz Church have for Der Mesrob will always remain in the hearts of our parishioners. However, Der Hayr was admired and loved, not only by his flock, but by the entire Rhode Island community. He was an eloquent speaker, an intellectual and a loving Pastor. Even after so many years, Der Hayr is continually remembered for his exemplary and faithful service to our community. As a result, the example that he set for us continues and will continue for the generations to come. Our entire community will join the Tashjian Family in mourning until the 40th day of Remembrance.

A Big Thank You

from Summer Bible Camp

In last month’s Special Students' issue of the

Gantegh, we had the opportunity to share with you

a look into our second annual summer Bible camp

that took place from July 18th through the 22nd.

The Bible camp was a fulfilling experience for the

campers and counselors alike as everyone had a fun

time exploring God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His

promises to us. This month, we would like to

extend a special thank you to the many people who

generously supported our camp with donations.

This year, the Bible Camp received cash donations

totaling $835 from the following individuals: Hazel

Kizirian; Shakay Kizirian; Arax, Christine, and

Anais Missakian (in loving memory of Seta

Missakian); Ara & Maggie Nalbandian (in loving

memory of Christine Nazarian White); Mariam

Norigian; Mari Panosian & Family (in loving memory

of her brother Sarkis Panosyan); Der Aram & Yn.

Margaret Stepanian; Maral Tashian; Ann Tikoian;

Berge & Jayne Zobian.

The Bible Camp also received the following “in kind”

donations:

Peter Hajian, Jr. –- RI Recognition –--

donated 56 custom printed tee shirts

Beverly Najarian –- Sponsored an ice

cream truck for the campers and the

counselors

Billy Manzo -– Donated pizza lunch on

Monday of camp.

Ladies' Guild – Donated/prepared/served

lunch on Tuesday & Thursday

Men’s Club ---– Donated/prepared/served

a cookout on Friday

Gloria Nazarian, Joanne Kizirian Robertson, Helen

Bogoian and Noreen Melikian LaFazia – Donated the

snacks that they served each day.

Our counselors, who gave so joyfully of their time

and talents, also generously donated many of the

supplies, crafts, and activities that they used

during the camp. There are also many other people

who helped to make the Bible camp a success. This

was truly a community wide event and we thank

everyone who contributed or helped in any way to

make this a wonderful experience for our campers.

Men's Club News

Our Men's Club has taken Aram Vehapar's "Year of Service" to heart. For many weeks, several individuals met at the Oakland Cemetery in Cranston on Saturday mornings to help with its massive clean-up/restoration. The task was completed and Grave Blessings by our clergy took place on June 18th. A Reception followed at a home adjacent to the grounds.

Der Gomidas, Der Kapriel and the Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that on September 5, 2016, Pauline Getzoyan will become our new office manager/secretary.

We as a church community are blessed to have such a talented person to continue the excellent work that our dedicated office staff has done over the years. May our Lord bless her and guide her as she continues her service to our church in this new role.

Der Gomidas, Der Kapriel and the Board of Trustees cordially invite you to join us in congratulating Alice Simonian Buratti and Helen Dayian for their years of faithful service as they prepare to retire.
