FINE ARTS AWARDS PRESENTED
Thanks to Paul Holzworth and Jeff Helms for presenting the Community Fine Arts Awards that are co-sponsored by The North Scott Press and North Scott Rotary on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the NS Fine Arts Auditorium in El-dridge. Four worthy recipients were thanked for their service. Paul read the scripts that were prepared by Bill Tubbs, and president Jeff presented the plaques. This is a unique way in which Rotary can say Thank You to individuals and groups who provide Service Above Self for the youth of our community, often with little expectation of recognition. The program began in 2004. Pictured are President Jeff Helms (l) and Paul Holzworth
(r) with honorees (l-r): Laura Konrady (Drama), St. Ambrose University, represented by Joseph Lappie (Visual Arts), Diana Smith (Creative Writing and Literature), and Teri Wittkowski (Vocal and Instrumental Music). The scripts enumerating the honorees' contributions will appear in The North Scott Pres. -- submitted by Bill Tubbs, photo by Erin Gentz, North Scott Press
President Jeff Helms and your Board of Directors asks for your consideration and comments on the following
North Sco) Rotary Per Member Expenses
Actual Expenses Last Year Quarter Year
Meals 93.91 375.64
District 9.00 36.00
Interna<onal 22.00 88.00
Club Services Secretary 46.88 187.52
Prin<ng 3.11 12.44
Supplies 5.32 21.28
Postage 1.33 5.32
Website 2.17 8.68
Total per member Last Year 183.72 235.24
Other Income used to offset
Fines 5.94 23.76
Interest 0.64 2.56
Per Mar at fair 2.46
Total other income 9.04 26.32
Net Expenses per member 174.68
Dues are now $165 per quarter. We would need an ad-ditional $10 per member, per quarter to break even.
Your Board has voted to increase dues $5 per quarter both January 2017 and January 2018. Each increase is less than 40 cents per week or per meal.
The last increase was January 2016, but we were pre-sented with and immediate meal increase that more than used up this dues increase. We will experience no meal increase during this time frame due to negotiations with the Steeplegate Restaurant. These dues do not allow for any social events or other club expenses.
Just as a reference point, at a recent club Presidents meeting, dues were discussed..
North Scott Rotary is considerably below Iowa Quad City clubs in dues, and Paul Harris.
Again please talk to your President and Board with Comments or other ideas you may have.

LAST WEEK – December 9, 2016 – Scott Case with Project Jack
Seventy one attended on Friday, including visiting Rotarians, Duncan Cameron, Naples, FL and Mike and Jo Anne Ruby, Muscatine, IA. Five Junior Rotarians and two chaperones were also guests, along with Nikki Dillon, guest of Carolyn Scheibe.
Scott Case showed a video and told the club about Project Jack, a project started by the Lindeman family after the loss of their son, Jack. When Jack’s classmates were in sixth grade at Alan Shepard Elementary, they each received $100 to use to do a “good deed”. Currently the Realtor Foundation of Iowa, under Scott’s leadership, has continued this project and will award fifth grade classes in Iowa funds in January 2017 to continue the project.
There was no sergeant on Friday. Dick Cole gave $80 for his 80th birthday and invited everyone to his open house last Sunday. Charlie Jones is home recovering from his surgery and is taking phone calls and emails. We all hope to see him back at Rotary soon!
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
