It was a usual parent-teacher meeting (after Ist term exams) at my daughter's school, wherein answer papers of the students are shown to parents. My daughter, then

was in fourth grade. After having a look at my daughter's answer sheets, I was waiting for my turn to have a word with the teacher. There was this lady talking to the class teacher and seemed to be very disturbed. When I tried to listen the conversation, to my surprise, I came to figure out that the lady was disturbed because her daughter underperformed in the exams against her high expectations. The lady was constantly arguing with the teacher for every mark deducted in her daughter's answer sheets. She was extending baseless excuses for her daughter's mistakes. Horrified with her reaction, I just could not restrain myself and casually asked about her daughter's marks. Again to my surprise, her daughter got above average marks in all subjects and there she was arguing for 2-3 more marks in every subject. I tried to reason out with her that it is only a fourth grade exam and she should not take it so seriously that it creates undue pressure on her kid. Making a face, she ignored my advice. I was heartbroken to see her little daughter who was standing beside her with a guilt ridden face.Although this was not the first time, when I saw parents arguing with teacher's for marks. It is a usual sight at every parent-teacher meeting. But, this particular incident shocked me to the core. Are exam marks so important for our kids, particularly for such small kids? Are exam marks real measure of our kid's capabilities? Is it good to pressurise kids for exams? Does this pressure exerts a long term impact on kids? As parents, don't we need counselling when our kids underperform in exams? In my opinion, as parents, it is high time we seek answer for all the above questions. Instead of blaming school, teachers or education system….lets find out faults with us and correct ourselves first. More importantly, we need to accept the fact that every child is different and we should not compare our kids with any other kid/s. Every child has his or her own talents which we can surely enhance by proper guidance. An insight into kids likings might help us understand their talents. Remember, there are many legends who were not good in studies, but carved a niche for themselves in their respective fields of interest.Blaming or scolding kids for getting less marks in exam will surely not do any good, infact it would lower the self-esteem of the child. Instead of debating with teachers for petty marks, lets concentrate on the areas where the child is lagging. Is it the handwriting or spellings or carelessness or conceptual confusions? Identifying the exact problem could go a long way in improving their performance. Pressurising kids unduly for exams might lead them to a situation of total hatred for studies. In extreme cases, it might result into depression. Instead, an incentive based regular study schedule might be a better option, so that they are better prepared for exams and there is no tension situation during exams. Please remember, exam marks are just an expression of our kid's one time performance ….it is not the final verdict of their life. Hence, as parents lets vow to set free our little birds and help them explore new heights. Note: This write-up particularly deals with the problems of kids studying in primary and pre-primary grades.

Who needs Counselling when Kids underperform in Exams?

Project Highlights

1. It all depends on the purpose which this group has been created ? If its only for rotary related information then no forwards and if its not then u know the answer. My personal view well this should be restricted only for Rotary related information. For forwards you can always have a separate group. - Rtn. Nilesh Panpaliya

2. For Rotary information exchange or events ,this the forum, for forwards ,make another group ...It is simple - Rtn. Pramod Acharya

3. I think this group should be only for Rotary related information.we have many other groups for forwarded messages. In the long list of forwarded message the important message is Missed.Say No to Forwarded Messages in this group - Rtn. Daksha Mandhaniya

4. By forwarding most messages like health, general info, proverbs etc Members think they have done their bit n then relax. However it creates the opposite effect. RCNI is n always will be for official communication from the President n his Secretariat. Period!!!! All other info if posted carry no meaning. This is my thought . - Rtn. Rahul Laddhad

5. My opinion in one word is "No" - Rtn. Satish Doshi

6. Whether Forwarded messages needed or not should be decided by President and his board. He should set some guidelines. We all are associated with many groups , there we get all same repeated messages. So in the interest of Rotary Work Forwarded messages should be avoided.I appreciate the Past president Rahul Laddhad for taking stand against Forwarded messages earlier also. Now New President should take stand. Those who send forwarded messages should also express their views. - Rtn. Dhiraj Maloo

7. I always say that, WhatsApp has given everyone a voice..majority of us forward messages to express their thought process and to make our IDENTITY in group....Identity needs to be established for which mesg is one of the string medium especially for new members... We h a v e I s h a n y a + group...how many new members are added in that group since last 3 years...? Hardly few...Forget Ishanya +....past president Rahul has been advocating this point since long past, but...but...without providing any other platform/group one should not expect members not to send forwarded messages, this will be violation of Right of Expression of members... Finally, if RCNI is only to communicate official info, plz form a separate group and let the members express freely...My view.. - Rtn. Kumar Zilpelwar

8. Form a new group Ishnya Masti/dhamal for all humorous posts Humour is a big destresser. - Rtn. Naresh Rathi

Rotary Ishanya Group mein forwarded Messages Ki Zarurat Hai ya Nahi ?

csckd jk;

12. No forwardsNo Videos No GM, GN msg or Photos No Wishes.. No festival msg..Strictly Rotary... Or make two Groups, One is needed for official purpose... - Rtn. Hemal Kothari 13. Protocol, as envisaged by its founders demands that We don't use it for forwards, wishes and even for forgiveness. But should you, then ask yourself is it right ? - Rtn. Shyam Laddha 14. Let's suppose the project directors post some message related to event they are planning on coming Sunday. If members confirm their attendance for event and also share their ideas for event through this group it will lead to mor effective planning of program. A approximate attendance of members attending the program may be of great help for project directors thus increasing overall efficiency. For all other forward which enhances assimilation of members we should form new group. - Rtn. Yogesh Taori

Rotary Ishanya Group mein forwarded Messages Ki Zarurat Hai ya Nahi ?

csckd jk;

10. In this grp or in new one but I guess thr shud b some forum for some healthy some times some light hearted discussions or sharing something which we find can be beneficial for fellow members - Rtn. Rajesh Rathi.

11. This group should be exclusively for Rotary related information / events . Sometime we miss important message due to many unnecessary forwards / jokes / videos . Also I would like to add that don't post personal wishes like Birthday / Anniversary as well as Festival greetings like Happy Diwali , Janamasthami , Ganesh Chaturthi , ID , New Year , X'mas etc in this group ..... Jisko bhi kisi ko wish karna hai , do on personal message not in Rotary what's app group .. This is my personal opinion - Rtn. Rishi Vij

9. This group was created on 7th Feb 2014 by the president of 2014-15. The biggest achievement of this Whats App group communication is, 1lac rupees was collected for Nepal earthquake in April 2015 without any personal call. This group was created for formal communication related to Rotary between the members forbetter assimilation. President and secretary should use personal WhatsApp or broadcast for official messages as many of our members are not in this group. Members should actively take part in communication in the group related to rotary like Project directors and committee chairs can inform members and take their views about the projects. Project photos should be shared. The group is for all the members and they are free to express their thoughts about Rotary in this group. "But No forwards" - Rtn. Anand Mohta

16. No forwards. No wishes. No Gm/gn. Only rotary related matters. This will make relevant communication more effective. - Rtn. Ravi Agrawal 17. I feel its not important wether the message is forwarded or self written I feel if its worth sharing with friends it should be welcomed. It helps in creating a good bond. Sharing leads to friendship. We may have many groups but all these friends may not be a part of. Those group. Yes rotary information is imp but bonding is equally imp. I may be wrong but I have a notion that if its only rotary information many people may not even open the messages. RI gives emphasis on fellowship. This is also the same. Thanks - Rtn. Neerja Mohunta

18. WE SHOULD VOLUNTARILY STOP responding to unnecessary (not concerned with Ishanya / Rotary) messages. Cold shouldering can help. - Rtn. Subodh Rathi.

19. In my view, forward msgs should be avoided in this Official Rotary Ishanya group for following reasons: 1. Important msgs regarding various projects gets sidelined 2. Gravity of official msgs decreases 3. Projects can be better planned, inputs taken from members, ideas can be shared 4. Everyone is well informed and can keep track of forthcoming events and projects We should definitely have a separate unofficial group wherein all other msgs and greetings can be shared. - Rtn. C.A. Abhay Agrawal

20. Forwarded messages are not t all required in this group bcos at the end of the day everyone gets these msgs from other contacts like friends & relatives! This group should be exclusively used related to rotary projects in for mations & achievements! Thanks - - R'ann Karuna Bang

21. Social media is a boon and one of the cheapest , easiest and most convenient ways to reach out to a large number of people . A platform on which you can give and receive important messages that keep you updated and connected. However when insignificant trivial forwarded messages flood the group , one tends to overlook even the important messages . So the basic purpose for which the group has been created is lost somewhere. - R'ann Neelu Taori

23.When a group is formed for a purpose it should stick to the purspose or else the sole purpose of the

group is lost. Fwd msg causes disturbances and importance of important messages are lost .its

difficult to look between fwd for the important onces

- R'ann Anjali Divecha

24. Ishanya gup-shup group In which u can share whatever you want to Any forward Any thought And

25. I do agree ....a msg might be worth sharing vth frnds for its humor , beauty n or awareness quotient

and ya we shud refrain frm sharing good Morning n good day kinda stuff but I don't see why other

relevant stuff shud be kept out of Rotary grp its after all bonding which we look fwd to in The club !!

- R'ann Pallavi Somani

26. Hello all.. I think Rotary ka ye group sirf aur sirf rotary see related information and suggestions ke liye

hi use me aana chahiye...Unnecessary messages and videos bhejnese rotary me important

masseges skip ho jate hai...Waise bhi wattesapp ne sabko itna gyani bana diya hai .. ki ab jyada Gyan ki

kisi ko jaroorat nahi Hai ...Hum sab Jo messages bhejte hai shayad Hum khud bhi usko 100%follow

Nahi karte ...And ye sabke liye hamare pass anek saare groups hai ,jaha ye good morning massages

27. Practice what you preach...... Those saying don't forward... Pls keep a check on your doings...

- R'ann Meghna Khemka

28. In my view our Rotary group is like a family.... so everyone is free to post important & no

important message. We are friends so be a free bird. everyone should know their limitations not

to post unwanted messages during Rotary Circular or news. -
