A “PINK OUT” FOR CANCER IN CLEMSON

Clemson, SC – The 22nd Annual South Carolina Walking Horse Ladies Auxiliary show was held at the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Clemson, SC on April 13 & 14. This is a beautiful 100 acre com-plex that includes an indoor arena, a covered arena, 440 permanent stalls and full hookup RV sites. The funds from this show ben-efit the American Cancer Society. However, this year the Ladies Auxiliary will be unable to send proceeds to the Cancer Society. A large USDA presence and extremely stringent inspections put a real damper on the participation at the 2012 show. In 2011, this show gave $2000 to Childrens Chance, an organization that helps the families of South Carolina children who have cancer with non-medical expenses. They also gave $2000 to the Savannah River Cancer Society and $1000 to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. The ladies who worked so hard to make this year’s show a success are very disappointed that they will be unable to contribute to these worthwhile charitable organizations.

The judges for this year’s show were Jeff Daniel, Dwaine Elliott, and Newton Parks. Saturday night the SCWHLA hosted a “pink out”. They sold pink t-shirts with “Riding for a Cure” on the back. The proceeds from the sale of the shirts is donated to support the fight against breast cancer. It was heartwarming to see so many pink shirts on the showgrounds. If you would like to order a t-shirt, please contact Emma Lee Cannon at 803-491-8046.

This year’s scholarship recipient is Jordan Cannon, son of Dr. Dale and Emma Lee Cannon. Jordan is an engineering major and a sophomore at Clemson University. He will be going to Australia this summer to further his studies abroad.

The SCWHLA would like to thank everyone, particularly the train-ers and exhibitors, who came to Clemson to support the 22nd An-nual Auxiliary Show. They look forward to next year with the hope of a great show and continued support for the Cancer Society.

The SCOOP would like to thank the SC Ladies Auxiliary for their hospitality and to wish them success in the future. Please visit our FREE website at www.thescooponline

ARKANSAS STATE HORSE SHOW BENEFITS SHERIFFS’ YOUTH RANCHESJONESBORO, AR- The 12th Annual Arkansas State Horse Show, sponsored by the Arkansas Walking and Racking Association (AWRHA), was held at the Arkansas State University Equine Center in Jonesboro, AR on April 14, 2012.

Proceeds from the show benefit the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches. The Youth Ranches were founded in 1976 by a group of sher-iffs who were concerned about the plight of abused, neglected, and homeless children. These ranches were created to provide a non-governmental residential childcare program for children from all 75 counties in Arkansas. After 36 years in operation, there are now five ranches that provide loving care with therapeu-tic intervention because “it is better to build a child than to repair an adult”.

The Honorable Jamie Lawrence of Vinemont, AL judged the 27-class show featuring classes for Walking, Racking and Spotted Saddle

horses. Show Chairman Alison Kee and Show Secretary Elane Berry were pleased with the participation. There were a total of 120 entries that came from different states to participate. Other show officials included announcer Ed Du-bar, ringmaster Bo Bourdo and organist Charles Ritchie. The Craighead County Mounted Patrol posted the national colors and Lib Carlisle gave the invocation.

The Walking Stake class was won by Rubin Goldstein with Ray Gilmer in the irons for own-ers Sewell and Katz Somerville. The Racking Horse Stake was won by He’s A Dirty Dollar with Danny Odom accepting the blue ribbon for owner Fred McCoy.

Congratulations to all of the winners from The SCOOP. For complete show results, please visit our FREE website at www.thescooponline.com.

WHOA ANNOUNCES FOUR SHOWS IN APRIL

FAST CANCELS JUNE JUbILEE

bEdFORd CANCER FOUNdATION

2012 CELEbRATION VERSATILITySHOW SERIES (April 17, 2012 Shelbyville, Tennessee) – The Foundation for the

Advancement and Support of the Tennessee Walking Show Horse (FAST) has decided to cancel its inaugural June Jubilee at the Williamson County Ag Center in Franklin, Tenn. FAST was unable to alleviate scheduling conflicts with other areas shows on that weekend.

“Our mission is to promote the Tennessee Walking Show Horse and our horse shows have been a big part of that however our board does not want to potentially hurt any horse show that serves the industry. We felt like having a show on the same weekend as other Middle Tennessee shows was a conflict to our mission of promotion,” said President Mike Inman.

FAST recently held the FAST Spring Showcase on March 15-17, 2012 at the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tenn. and raised just over $30,000 in funds that will be used for the advancement and support of the Tennessee Walking Show Horse industry. FAST also tentatively has scheduled the Fall Finale October 26-27, 2012 at the Calsonic Arena.

“Our purpose in having horse shows is to provide our great horse the venue to showcase its abilities and to allow FAST a fundraising initiative to further advance and support our great show horse. Our industry is facing significant hurdles and FAST wants to be in a position to advance our show horse in the areas of most need,” concluded Inman.

FAST is a 501 (c)3 organization that’s mission is to promote and preserve the Tennessee Walking Show Horse. All donations are tax deductible and are put to immediate use in the industry. For more information or to make a donation visit FAST online at HYPERLINK “http://www.FASTWalkingShowHorse.org” www.FASTWalkingShowHorse.org

Like Tennessee whiskey that gets its world-class taste from being hidden away year after year and blended ever so slowly by time and patience, the flavor of The Ghost Ballerinas music comes from years they spent scribbling song lyrics into old school notebooks and from the countless nights they made raw noise come from old, cheap amplifiers. They are not as polished as the best Scotch, but who from Tennessee drinks Scotch anyway?

Just like a Mason jar, The Ghost Ballerinas do not have a fancy label but they have got the best fans, friends, and supporters in the world. Family is important to the group and they are very appreciative to their families who bought them their first guitar and drum set. They believe that music is like Tennessee whiskey . . . you’re not suppose to keep it all for yourself. So, here they are! We hope you will enjoy them and that you will put the Music Festival and Benefit on your schedule.

The Music Festival will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with the National Anthem and a send off to hundreds of bikers heading out on the annual “Aut 2 Be Kids Motorcycle Benefit run”. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated! Ninety percent of all proceeds will go to the Bedford County Association for Exceptional Students, Inc, a 501c3 Tennessee charity committedto helping families in the Middle Tennessee area who live with autism. Ten percent of all proceeds will go to the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee for research and development into finding the cause of autism, which now affects 1 out of 100 children.

To make donations or for further information, contact Kenda Berry at 931-492-2771.

“I Am What I Am” Music Festival and Benefit will be held on August 18 at the Bedford County Agricultural Center in Shelbyville, TN. The local rock band, The Ghost Ballerinas, and Elympic Entertainment are hosting the event which will raise money for autism in OUR community.

The alternative rock band, The Ghost Ballerinas, has been called “modern day troubadours”. They have made an incredibly bold statement with their 11-song sophomore album, PLAY ME ON THE RADIO, which was released in April, 2012. The band features Cameron Burnette on guitar and vocals, Justin Berry on bass guitar, and A.J.Vanderpool on drums. The Ghost Ballerinas originally formed as a garage band in 2008 in Nashville, TN. The group is actually from Smyrna, Murfreesboro, and Shelbyville. If you know anything about this area, it is not far from where a man with the initials J.D. started making great whiskey.

The Morganton Foothills Jubilee Horse Show has moved from Saturday, June 23 to Saturday, June 30. The change has also been posted to the NCWHA website. For more information on North Carolina horse shows, feel free to visit their website at NCWHA.org.

The 42nd Annual Spring Fun Show to be held in the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, TN on May 24-26, 2012, has selected Jamie Bradshaw from Union Grove, AL, Ray Gilmer from Toone, TN, and Andy Simpson from Indian Mound, TN to judge the two-day event.

Stan Trimble, Master Farrier, will make the trip again from Tennessee to Idaho to facilitate a farrier clinic specifically for owners and farriers of TWH. Auditors are welcome.

TWHBEA INTRODUCESSELLER-FRIENDLY PROGRAm

Make plans to attend the Tennessee Walking Horses of Today, Equine Conference scheduled on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30th in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.Below you will find links to print an Agenda, Registration, or Sponsorship Form.

The Conference is sponsored by The walking Horse Trainers’ Association, The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association, The Walking Horse Owners Association and The Celebration.

The Unity Committee met on Monday, April 16, and wants the world to know it is alive and kicking. “Our mission remains to unify, to promote and protect the humane treatment of the Walking Horse, to support public relations programs, to market, to educate, and to meet and engage with regulatory challenges”, said spokesperson Christy Lantis. “We reaffirmed our basic composition, our dedication to our parent organizations, and the idea that one voice is essential to the survival and growth of the Tennessee Walking Horse-both performance and flat shod-in so many ways.” “Although it should go without saying, let it again be said that the Unity Committee is dedicated to the abolition of soring and the promotion of any good idea, from any source, resulting in competent and fair inspections and preventive measures. We also remain dedicated to the sound performance and flat shod horse and urge everyone to go to the nearest and next affiliated horse show to enjoy this great horse and rediscover the truth about its presentation.” Trainers president Jamie Hankins specifically cited recent meetings of the WHTA, its continuing and enthusiastic endorsement, and its

Lewisburg, TN - The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) is pleased to announce a new program that, for a nominal fee of $20, will allow anyone that has sold a registered Tennessee Walking Horse to inform TWHBEA and have created an official statement that the horse has changed ownership. Separate from a complete transfer, this official statement will simply denote that the horse has changed possession, thus providing legal documentation that the seller is no longer responsible for that horse. “As we’ve continued to look for ways to better serve the Tennessee Walking Horse community, we became aware of a need for a quick and efficient way for sellers to remove horses they’ve sold from their responsibility. This new option will help those sellers and the community at large by helping us keep more accurate records,” remarked TWHBEA President Marty Irby. For more information on this new program, visit www.twhbea.com or call TWHBEA at 931-359-1574.

continuing support of the Unity Committee. The UC will meet again on Friday, April 20, and the executive committee of TWHBEA and the board of WHOA will meet this weekend as well. In these crucial days, The UC urges anyone and everyone who endorses a unified voice for the Tennessee Walking Horse to contact one of these members, and to strongly urge the support of the Unity Committee, in its present composition and state, by these member-driven organizations.

About TWHBEA

The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ AssociationSM (TWHBEASM ), headquartered in Lewisburg, Tenn., is the oldest and most prestigious organization devoted to the promotion and protection of the breed. Its goal is to maintain the purity of the breed, to promote greater awareness of the Tennessee Walking Horse and its qualities, to encourage expansion of the breed and to help assure its general welfare.

On Saturday, June 16 Stan will work one on one with owners and their horses. Later in the day he will be working with the same owners and horses in a group setting. On Sunday, June 17, farriers will reset your horses to enhance their natural gait after which there will be another group ride for owners to feel and see the differences in their horses.
