Blood Donor SundayOur fi rst Blood Donor Sunday for 2011
will be held January 9, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in
the Mary and Martha Fellowship Hall in the
basement, same as the last drive. This drive
will be in memory of Marge Zaras for all
her hard work in the past. Signup sheets are
available in the foyer and narthex if you would
like to sign up ahead of time and save a special
spot. Also our Health Cabinet will be calling
all of you who have donated in the past to set
up an appointment time the week before the
drive. Your signing up ahead of time gives us
an estimate of how many donors to expect and
then the Blood Center sends out the appropriate number of workers. If we know in advance about how many of you will
be donating, ample help will be at our drive to keep things running smoothly. We look forward to a very successful drive
this winter. Double red cell and combination whole blood and plasma machines are also available for those wishing to
donate that way. Both count for two donations.
REMINDER!! The minimum donor age requirement to give blood is now 16 years old with a parent’s permission.
Weight must be 122 lbs. (still 110 lbs. for 17 and older) and in general good health.
REMEMBER: One unit of blood can save as many as three lives as it is broken down into three components – red
blood cells, platelets and plasma. The Health Cabinet looks forward to speaking to each of you again so anticipate the
call.
Praise God!We have just celebrated the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and we will be in the midst of celebrating
Epiphany as you receive our newsletter, I believe this devotion for Christmas Day from “Experiencing GOD Day-By
Day,” is so very appropriate. It “struck a chord” in my heart and it is great “food for thought” for every day of our lives
and a resolution to set as we think about our lives in 2011.
“Spontaneous Praise”
And Mary said, “My soul praises the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” Luke 1:46-47 (NIV)
“Praise is the spontaneous response of a grateful child of God in His presence. The person
who knows God and experiences Him intimately sings to the Lord with deepest praise! Mary
was overwhelmed by the Lord’s goodness to her. In response, she sang one of the most
beautiful and profound songs of praise in Scripture. Trying to stop the praise of a thankful
heart would be like trying to arrest the fl ow of a mighty waterfall! God created us to praise
Him; praise will be our activity when we are gathered around His throne in heaven.
You should never have any diffi culty thinking of reasons why God deserves your praise.
You should enjoy the times you have to praise your Lord, both privately and publicly, in
worship. If your life is not fi lled with praise, it may be that you have lost your appreciation
for God’s merciful activity in your life. Never forget what God has saved you from. Never
take for granted what it means to have the assurance of eternity with God. Do not disregard
the spiritual kinship you enjoy with other believers. Take time often to recount the blessings
He has poured out upon you and your family. As you contemplate the boundless love and mercy God has shown you, you
will want to sing His praises as Mary did. Spontaneous praise is authentic praise. It does not have to be manipulated or
orchestrated. It is a real and personal expression of a grateful heart and a wonder-fi lled life that has encountered holy God!”
May “spontaneous praise” be a part of each day in our walk with our Lord. He has and will do mighty things for us!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New at TrinityCommunication at Trinity has
taken another step into the digital age.
Televisions have been placed throughout
the building and will be displaying
greetings, announcements, and other
items of information. A benefi t of this
approach is that we can get much more
information on our screens than we can
on our walls. We also have the ability to
display different items at various places
throughout the building (the TVs don't
all have to display the same thing.) The
project was made possible through several
special gifts. If you would like something
displayed on this system, contact Jason
Mangels at 713.229.2937.
Chapel Altar On Loan to Sister Congregation
Epiphany Lutheran Church, Jersey Village,
is in the process of building new facilities in the
Copperfi eld area. Their new Sanctuary isn't ready
yet so they are worshiping on Sundays at Labay
Middle School. To assist our brothers and sisters
in Christ at Epiphany, Trinity's chapel altar is on
loan to them. They are using our chapel altar each
Sunday for worship at the school. They plan to be
worshiping in their new facilities by summer time.
Please keep this congregation in your prayers as
they transition to a new site — may the Lord bless
them with an increased opportunity to share the
Good News!

position was vacant. In the selection
process a number of names were submitted
and considered. However, Ken's name
rose to the top for a variety of reasons. I
look forward to working with Ken in this

Christmas Nativity DisplayThe Christmas nativity tradition continued this year in the
hallway outside of fi rst and second grades. The second graders were
the people in the nativity story while the fi rst grade was in charge of
creating the animals. Kindergarten shone brightly with the making
of all of the stars in the sky. By being a more tangible part of the
Christmas story the students are learning to witness about sharing
Christ’s love and the true meaning of Christmas with every person
who walks into the school or church. It has been such a blessing
for the classes to see and hear
the amazing miracle of Jesus’
birth being told as the display
is gazed upon and talked about.
Little kids and adults alike can
behold the creativity of parents
and students while keeping the
CHRIST in CHRISTmas.

"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"TLS 2011 Spring Musical
Musicals at Trinity are not just a 21st Century discovery. As early as
the 1940s, students at Trinity have been involved in musicals of varying
types, beginning with Operettas. Continuing to the 1960s - early 1970s
were such “showstoppers” as “Four Feathers West,” “Who Stole the
Tarts?,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “H.M.S. Pinafore,” and many more. During
the 1980s and 1990s, the Children’s Choir performed musicals of Bible
Stories during church services.
Also, in 1990, Trinity Theater was formed as an amateur theater group that welcomed both adults and children.
Dramas, comedies and musicals, including many TLS students, were presented through 1996.
After several years of talent shows, Julie May and Cheryl Mangels proposed to then principal, Mr. Einem, that we had
the talent at Trinity to enter the world of musical theater again. This year marks our 7th year of musicals, and we are proud
of the talent and hard work our students bring to the stage. Several of our “musical alumni” have performed in their high
school’s musicals. Is there a future Tony winner coming from TLS? Who knows? We do know that a lot of fun is coming
from our stage…..so sit back and enjoy the ride with us!

How to Read and Study the Holy Bible From the Lutheran Study Bible
As you open your Bible to read and study, begin with this little prayer, drawn directly from Scripture passages.
From the Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study Group
In our study of the second half of the book of
Acts, we are also considering the different postures of
prayer. As you fold your hands and bow your head,
look at the crossed fi ngers of your folded hands and
think about these words of Jesus: "I am the vine; you
are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in
him, he will bear much fruit; . . . If you remain in Me
and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish,
and it will be given you." (John 15: 5-7)
We pray that God will keep us joined to Him and
also help us to be concerned about those who do not
know Jesus as their Savior and Lord.
Speak, Lord, for Your servant listens 1 Sm 3:9; the Lord speaks to us through His Word.
Please show me now Your ways, Ex 33:13; the Lord speaks to us in two basic ways:
Law and Gospel.
Php 3:8-9; Scripture teaches us about Christ and
His righteousness.
That I may gain Christ and be found in Him,
not having a righteousness of my own that
comes from the Law, but that which comes
through faith in Christ.
Ps 119:105, 107; Scripture faithfully guides our
lives.
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to
my path. Give me life, O Lord, according to
Your Word,
Ps 145:6; Scripture leads us to declare the Lord’s
ways to others.
And I will declare Your greatness. Amen.
Pray Remember

Stephen Ministry Christmas CelebrationTrinity Stephen Ministers celebrated Christmas together with a great party.
The group enjoyed food, fellowship, and much laughter. It was a great time to
be together in a Christian atmosphere, to celebrate friendship, and mostly to
celebrate the Holy Birth of the Holy
Child. Stephen Ministry is looking
forward to another exciting year in 2011
beginning with the commissioning of

“Thriving After 50"1. How to enhance your life - Wear seat
belts, watch what you eat, exercise
regularly, socialize and do not retire if you
are enjoying your work.
2. How to untangle your life - Like a tea
bag, you must be put in hot water before
you know how strong you are.
3. How to enthrall your life - Do not stop playing because you are growing
old; you grow old because you stop playing.

“Life Quotes” From Lutherans For Life
“When you experience spiritual depression, the
answer is clear; put your hope in God. Be faithful in
getting to worship. Open your Bible daily and you
will fi nd many answers for your questions. Pray a
lot. Attend the Lord’s Supper and feel His divine
presence. Gather with Christian friends and you
will see what a gift Jesus Christ has given you at His
church.” - Pastor Steven Kramer - “Life Quotes”

Prayers and Promises by Pastor David Leeland
A blessed, prosperous and happy New Year to you all as we begin the New Year in the name of Jesus!
We just completed a wonderful season of celebration with Advent and Christmas and New Year’s Worship! I loved
the theme, “He Shall Be Called!”
Sitting in a corner of my offi ce was a forgotten poster that says this:
This wonderful list of 54 names for our Savior speak blessings and promises to our hearts and lives in the new year!
I want to encourage you to take a few minutes to meditate and pray on these names for the next 54 days. Like vitamins
start with ADVOCATE to pray and meditate on as you think on Jesus and then the next day use LAMB OF GOD, and so
forth as you pray and meditate your way through these 54 names.
As we do this, we’ll be making a great beginning to 2011!
AND HE SHALL BE CALLED

11 Things to Do for Your Marriage in 20111. Do something little for your spouse – Take him a cup of coffee in the
morning. Unload the dishwasher for her. Let the dog out without being
asked. Just be thoughtful.
2. Make dinner together – Even if it’s just tearing up the lettuce for a
healthy salad, do it together. It’s fun.
3. Watch an old movie – Remember the fi rst movie you saw together? 4. Take a walk and maybe even hold hands – Besides the myriad health
benefi ts, a gentle stroll through the neighborhood is just nice.
5. Read the same book at the same time – It’s not a competition to see
who fi nishes fi rst. If you really took this one seriously, you could take
turns choosing books too.
6. Spend time with other healthy couples – Research shows that couples whose friends’ marriages are healthy tend to
have stronger marriages of their own. It’s that “birds of a feather” thing.
7. Remind him that he’s your knight in shining armor.
8. Remind her that she’s the most important woman in your life.
9. Let your spouse know he/she’s on your mind during the day. Send a text or an email that just says “thinking of you.”
For an added bonus, say something you’re looking forward to.
10. Worship together – Bring your marriage before Him who brought the two of you together and blessed your union in
the fi rst place.
11. Pray for your spouse – every day. Tell God that you’re thankful for your spouse and pray that God will bless your
spouse.
Happy New Year!

the program that night on "Funny Things" that have
happened throughout the history of Trinity Women's
Club. Men, you're invited, too!

Thanks from St. Joseph Food PantryMany, many thanks to you for your generous
donation of food to the food pantry at St. Joseph
church. It was a great help and came at the right
time. The number of people coming for food has
increased (loss of jobs—all ages and all over the
city) while our food supply has decreased. We are
distributing our Thanksgiving food bags this week
and this was made easier with your help.
Let us continue to be mindful of those less fortunate right in our
neighborhood.
Many prayers for you...
