OUR MISSION: To provide a home in the love of Jesus Christ where all God’s children can be nurtured in worship and fellowship through the Word and Holy Sacraments, so that, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, sharing the life of Jesus and His ministry of compassion and justice in our
daily lives and ministries, we might grow in faith and numbers and proclaim God’s reign of love to all.
February 2020
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, February is a wonderful time of the year! This is the month where we celebrate fellowship and relationships with one another. It is the month where we honor our Presidents for their service, dedication and patriotism to God, Country and to all American. February is also Black History Month, where we celebrate the histories and accomplishments of African Americans for our coun-try and communities. Planned Activities: Please join us for a Valentine celebration in the Fellowship Hall on the 9
th at 3pm! Great
food, great friends, great time! Happy February birthday wishes to Matt, Fran, Justin, Gene and Pat! Party is on for the 16
th after service!
We will have our first Congregational meeting of the year on February 23, please don’t miss it! Finally, and most important, Ash Wednesday is February 26, marking the beginning of Lent. Historically, Lent was a time when new Christians prepared themselves for baptism on Easter Sunday. Today, Lent more often is a time when we prepare ourselves for Easter and are invited to deeper faith, stronger community, and a closer connection to God. This preparation happens through an emphasis on a few basic faith practices: worship, prayer, generosity, self-denial, and service to others. Lent is season for changing your life, for turning things around, for getting back on the right path – “repentance.” The ashes of Ash Wednesday remind us of our mortality. God created humankind from the dust of the earth, and it is to dust that we shall all return. Please receive your ashes and join us for the Ash Wednesday worship service on the 26
th at
7:30pm. I look forward to celebrating with you all! Yours in Christ, Troy Pulido Church Council President

Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. National Event
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
A home fire can strike anywhere, anytime—devastating families. On average, more lives are lost to home fires every year than to all other major disasters combined. But, together, we can change this. The Red Cross and partners are tackling this problem head on. Volunteers go door-to-door educating families about the importance of fire escape plans and working smoke alarms and go one step further by installing free smoke alarms if needed. Our efforts are paying off. Since our launch of the Home Fire Campaign in 2014, at least 640 lives have been saved—18 of them in New Jersey—and the 1.9 million free smoke alarms installed nationwide include more than Your organization can be part of the solution by participating in our national signature Sound the Alarm events in New Jersey this Spring:
Paterson April 18 & 19, 2020
Possibilities for your organization’s participation include: • Pre-Event Canvassing. Go door-to-door with information about upcoming installation events in the community. • Smoke Alarm Installation. On installation days, members join teams of volunteers and firefighters canvassing neighborhoods with ladders and screw-drivers in hand, installing smoke alarms in homes that need them. Volunteers also provide fire and disaster safety education in homes. • Additional Support • Pre-event and day-of event help with materials and event logistics • Provide financial and/or in-kind sponsorships • Spread the word in your community • Coordinate bringing the campaign to your membership By working together, we will help save lives and reduce injuries, strengthening our community’s ability to be resilient in the face of any disaster—large or small.
