Rev. Dr. Janet Blair, Vice Pastor OUR MISSION: To provide a home in the love of Jesus Christ where all
God’s children can be nurtured in worship and fellowship through the Word and Holy Sacraments, so that, under the leadership of the Holy Spir-
it, sharing the life of Jesus and His ministry of compassion and justice in our daily lives and ministries, we might grow in faith and numbers and
proclaim God’s reign of love to all.

CHURCH COUNCIL & SCHOOL BOARD RETREAT AT CROSS ROADS
On Sept. 20th and 21st the church council and school board had its annual retreat to Cross Roads Camp and Conference Center. The theme of the retreat was based on “Living Lutheran:Renewing Your Congregation” and led by Pastor Janet Blair, our vice pastor. We discussed the book and thoughts about Trinity’s mission. Attending were Troy Pulido,Kim Pulido,Diane Occhiogrosso,Manny Occhiogrosso,Nicole Occhiogrosso,Nancy Markowski and Malle Vaarsi. The
Friday evening session dealt with defining the word “mission” - words that came to mind included goal; pathway to a goal; reason for being; plan (how to live your
life); what you do every day; purpose; calling (way of life); work that you do for greater purpose. We ended the Friday session working in pairs, discussing
“dwelling in the word” and an evening prayer. Saturday morning session started with Malle leading the morning prayer and discussing times for prayer, and
closing with a poem from Bethany Church in Michigan entitled “I Want to Pray”. Following breakfast we talked about “Dwelling in the Word” (Luke 10,vs.1-12),
and less about “information” and learning about each other - what captures your imagination ? ; what was God up to ? ; bringing about a purpose in your ministry.
Not only the leadership, but the whole congregation deciding what the mission should be.Need to define our purpose and guiding principles. The A.M. session ended with, again, working in pairs ; each pair was handed a Bible verse to draw the message, and passed on to the next pair to decipher the verse. Following
lunch, President of the Council,Troy Pulido, asked each member what their present position on the council was and what they think they can do to improve that position. Session 2 of “Living Lutheran” dealt with a vision for the future -
participation; enthusiasm :VISION = purpose+guiding principles+time. Also that stewardship needs to change from just giving money to giving time and using
YOUR gifts. Also using the calling of your community (needs) - a long term goal. Also the thought of a Saturday worship service, since so many sports take place on Sunday mornings now. We need to pick a top 2 plans and accomplish these
by the end of the year. The two chosen were the platform elevator and stair chair and the prayer garden. This session was closed with a communion worship
service, and following dinner we had a short “wrap-up” meeting and headed for home.
Notes From Malle
I want to pray… Night jerks itself into day, alarm sounding,or phone shrilling its demands. Quiet breakfast planned is lost in the running ten more minutes, to put on the armor in which I battle the world. Can’t let them see I. scared. Morning passes, armor intact, pleasant smile slipping only once or twice. Have to love, have to love… I want to pray… But lunch is bread with something between, spread over phone calls and mail piling up. Dishes abandoned,I take up the gauntlet of nice words and soothing noises, wondering if armor rusts with the age of tears.Arthritic communion , given for you, if your shield is down. I want to pray… A class, a meeting, another call all needing something I’m not sure I’m equipped with. Keeping all my armor on takes most of my strength; do I have enough to let it down ? If I take it off, will there be anything there,or simply emptiness, nothing left to give? Was it always this way ? I want to pray… Sleep beckons,it’s time to report on the struggles of the day. Too little given,so much expected, the dragons within have won again. Armor still up,I try to explain to Godthat it was only a small loss, and I wasn’t really to blame. Emptiness and silence grow. Oh Lord, I want to pray…
