Pastor’s Message

A Father's

Faith "Don't be afraid! Only believe,

and she will be all right." Luke 8:50

When Jesus returned to Capernaum, the multitude welcomed Him, for they

had been waiting for Him. A man named Jairus, a leader of a Jewish syna-

gogue, came and fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his

house, for his only daughter about twelve years old, was dying.

Jesus agreed to go. As they went, the multitudes were pushing against Him.

Jairus was begging Jesus to move faster, but it wasn't possible for Jesus to

ignore the multitudes.

At this time, a messenger arrived from Jairus' home with the news that the

little girl was dead, and there was no use troubling Jesus now.

But when Jesus heard what had happened, He said to the father, "Don't be

afraid! Just believe, and she will be all right."

The Book of 2 Chron. 20:20, says, "...Listen to me, O people of Judah and

Jerusalem, believe in the Lord your God, and you shall have success! Believe

his prophets, and everything will be all right!"

When they arrived at the house, already it was filled with mourning people.

Jesus, trying to comfort them, said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died but is

asleep." And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.

Then Jesus went into the room with Peter, James, John, and the little girl's

father and mother. Then He took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child,

arise." At that moment her spirit returned and she jumped up. "Give her

something to eat!" Jesus said. Her parents were amazed and were overcome

with happiness, but Jesus told the parents not to tell anyone about their daugh-

ter's healing, because He knew the facts would speak for themselves,

and besides, Jesus was concerned for His ministry. He did not want to be

known as just the miracle-worker; He wanted people to listen to His words

that would heal their broken spiritual lives.

Jairus was not a follower of Jesus, but he believed that Jesus could heal his

sick daughter. When the messenger arrived from Jairus' home with the news

that his daughter was dead and there was no use bothering Jesus.

He never gave up hope, he believed when Jesus told him not to be afraid.

Just believe, and his daughter will be all right. And it was a father's faith

that saved the daughter.

That's the kind of faith every Christian should have, a strong faith, a doubt-

less faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lord Jesus said, "For if you had faith even as small as a tiny

mustard seed you could say to this mountain, 'Move!' and it would

go far away. Nothing would be impossible. (Matthew 17:20)

A Message from the Board By: Varoujan Der Simonian, Chairman

A weekend in the life of our church

“Building a church is important; however becoming a church is more important!” His Holiness, Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia

The last weekend of October can be likened to a marathon in the life of our

parish. After several months of preparation, on Friday, October 25th we held

our 63rd annual food bazaar. The day-long event brought hundreds of people

from all walks of life to our church. It was wonderful to observe our entire

parish involved in preparing, setting up and serving. Ladies’ Guild members

prepared all the delicious baked and frozen food items; Men’s Society mem-

bers were up early in the morning preparing and cooking various kebabs, and

the youth group members along with entire board of trustees were on duty

serving side by side.

Immediately after the Friday event ended at 8:00 PM several teams quickly

jumped in and began to clean the social halls and the kitchen, and setup the

same places for two separate events scheduled for the next day: an early pri-

vate dinner party , followed by the Armenian Bar Association Dinner for that

same evening! While at the same time another team was busy closing the

bazaar financials. It was 10:34 PM when four board members turned off the

last light in the bridal room of the sanctuary and finally went home.

The guys were back at the BBQ line at 2:00 pm on Saturday to serve the two

separate meals! After the events, the social halls were once again cleared, and

this time the tables were arranged in the large social hall for the Sunday

School annual Harvest Party, and the small hall was prepped for the after

church coffee hour! Our volunteers turned the lights off after 11:00 PM on

Saturday night.

Sunday morning at 8:00 AM our volunteers delivered hay and pumpkins.

After attending Morning Service in English the youth and college group

members decorated the hall for the Harvest Party for that night, then took off

for a lunch and fellowship.

I keep thinking of the aforementioned statement made by the Vehapar, His

Holiness Aram I, and how thankful we should be to our Lord that has granted

us the understanding of “becoming a church!” and the strength for taking an

active role in the life of our church. Becoming a church is the commitment to

serve and give back to our parish with the purpose of keeping our faith and

ensuring the prosperity of our church. Becoming a Church is a must; sustain-

ing her is our responsibility and that was observed this past weekend.

Dr. Garine Lepejian-Vasilain (Left) Mrs. Noune Khachikian (Middle)

“The Year of the Mother of the Armenian Family”

On the occasion of the proclamation of the current year as the year

of the Armenian Mother by His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great

House of Cilicia, the Holy Trinity Armenian Church hosted a bilingual lec-

ture on the subject organized by the Christian Education Committee. Fr.

Vahan Gosdanian blessed the food then invited Mistress of Ceremonies Mrs.

Sato Sanikian to handle the issue. Then the Committee Chairman Mr. Garo

Poladian released his speech on the Committee’s activity.

The two lecturers, Dr. Mrs. Garine Lepejian-Vasilain, in Armenian,

and Mrs. Flora Esraelian, in English, emphasized in their concise interven-

tion the crucial role of the Armenian Mother in order to keep our

traditional, educational and religious values. They referred to her as the base

of the family, its central pillar, the custodian of our moral, cultural and spiri-

tual values, highlighting her determination and mission in the salvation of

our faith, fatherland and language. Not to mention her fundamental role and

duty in religious and national fields, from ancient times to Der Zor, and from

Karabagh to the present. They traced a parallel between St. Mary and our

mothers, in that they are the source of love and sacrifice. They

recommended being respectful of our mothers as suggested by the fourth

commandment of the Holy Bible. They alluded, to some verses of our poets

Hovhannes Shiraz and Barooyr Sevag, who have dedicated many poems to

the Armenian mother, while Mrs. Noune Khachikian recited one. Then they

invited the audience to have a reflection on the fact that still persists in our

memory the Mother Church, Mother Armenia and Mother Language appel-

lations.

To make the climate more emotional was the performance on the

piano by Mrs. Alin Baghdasarian, who played selected pieces of Armenian

music, which included “letter to my mother” and “ov too keghetsig “.

HYE’D OUT NEWS Hello Everyone,

This past month has gone by extremely fast. It has been wonderful to

start getting to know our church family in a more intimate way. We are a

blessed church to have such a wonderful group of young people in our church.

In today’s society it is a rough time to be a young person, the waters that our

young people have to navigate are very different from when you and I were in

Junior High, High School, and College. I would encourage you to strike up con-

versation with our young people, get to know them and encourage them in any

way you can.

The Youth Group continues to go through the book of Galatians. This is

an interesting book as we are reminded about the basics of our faith and that the

Gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone and that there are no extra restrictions put

on people in the faith. The most important question we have to answer is Who is

Jesus and what does that mean for your life? We had the great opportunity to see

the East meets West concert with the Chookasian Armenian Concert Ensemble.

It was a great concert and everyone that went had a wonderful time. The Youth

Group also had a chance to go to Hobbs Grove this past month. We had a good

group of young people meet at the church and go to Hobbs Grove. Everyone had

a great time and it was a very scary event. We went through the Haunted Forrest

and the Haunted House as well as a Hay Ride. Everyone had a fantastic time and

are looking forward to going back next year.

Lastly the youth were able to help out with the Annual Church Bazaar.

It was good to be able to help the Church as well as do some fundraising by sell-

ing Olive Oil. If you were at the Bazaar you most likely had a chance to talk to

Zaven Ohanian. He is a wonderful salesman and was able to let people know

about the fantastic Olive Oil that we were selling. We still have a few bottle left

over, so if you would like some please contact me. We would like to thank the

Mesrobian family for providing us with the Olive Oil to sell. We would also like

to thank Varoujan Der Simonian for providing us help along the way as well.

We have started our College and Career Group. We have been meeting in peo-

ple’s homes and have been very fortunate to have such wonderful hospitality

from our church family. We would like to thank the following families for open-

ing up their home so graciously for us: The Nersisyan Family, Hagop Ohanes-

sian, The Bareian Family, The Sarabian Family, and the Zanontian Family. We have been looking at the Gospel of John and seeing the life that Jesus lived and

how we should be living our lives as well. We look forward to continue meeting

and growing together.

In His Service,

Jason Davis

PASS IT ON… Submitted By: Krista Parnagian Author Unknown

Satan Called a Convention

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons. In his opening address he

said, "We can't keep Christians from going to church. We can't keep them from read-

ing their Bibles and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an inti-

mate relationship with their Savior. Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our

power over them is broken. So let them go to their churches; let them have their cov-

ered dish dinners, but steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship

with Jesus Christ. This is what I want you to do," said the devil: "Distract them from

gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their

day!"

"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted. "Keep them busy in the nones-

sentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered.

"Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow. Persuade the wives

to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12

hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles. Keep them from spending time

with their children. As their families fragment, soon their homes will offer no escape

from the pressures of work!"

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.

Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. To keep the TV,

VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store

and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly. This will jam their

minds and break that union with Christ. Fill the coffee tables with magazines and

newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day. Invade their driving

moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs,

sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products,

services and false hopes."

"Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real

meaning of Christmas. Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resur-

rection and power over sin and death. Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.

Have them return from their recreation exhausted. Keep them too busy to go out in

nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events,

plays, concerts, and movies instead. Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and

small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences. Crowd their lives with so

many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus. Soon they will be

working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the

cause. It will work! It will work!"

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing

Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there, having

little time for their God or their families and friends. Having no time to tell others

about the power of Jesus to change lives. I guess the question is, has the devil been

successful at his scheme? You be the judge! Message: How often do you make God a

part of your daily life? We all get caught up in daily activities and sometimes forget to

make God a part of them.
