EVENINGWEAR CLASSESSTRAPLESS BODICEProm. Bridesmaids. Sorority Formals. The strapless bodice is a staplein current eveningwear fashion. The point of the workshop is to walkaway with a strapless pattern that will fit you and with the knowledge

of what materials to use to support your body. Since this class istaught by Linda Sparks, author of “The Basics of Corset Building,” you

can expect to learn some simple corset techniques which will guaranteeyour bodice will not slip or slide. Beginners will leave the class with afitted pattern from which to make the boned bodice, and the knowledgeof how to properly complete the project on your own. Advanced sewerswill have the opportunity to complete the garment in class. Everyonereceives personalized and group instruction from Linda.

Friday evening, Linda will measure your bodies and discuss the construction techniques for the pattern,McCall’s 4709. You will also consider how you want to redesign the look to make it your own.

Saturday will be spent adjusting your pattern to fit your body and accommodate simpledesign changes as well as making a mock-up to test the fit of the pattern, finalizing patternalterations, creating a new pattern from your mock-up and shopping for good fabric.

Sunday should see you cutting into your good fabric and getting to a first fitting of yourcustom bodice. Not all students will get to this point, which is dependent on skill and focus.

PANT OR JEAN FITTING - Hands-onTired of trying to get a pair of pants that fit? Begin the class by trying on pant and/orjean slopers in different sizes to determine what size you are at the hip and waist.Sandra will then advise you as to what additional pattern alterations you will need fora flat seat, tummy, high and full hips, sway back, full thighs, etc. You will then cut

out the pants or jeans from scrap fabric (like Vogue Fabrics’$1.00 per yard Clearance Fabrics) or from Muslin. Fit will berefined. Alterations will be transferred to create a master pat-tern. You now have a pant or jean pattern which fits and can bemade again and again. Students should bring a Today’s Fit pantpattern purchased by your snug hip measurement. Sandra willbring all sizes of Vogue Pattern #7940 (flat front pant) and VoguePattern #7608 (jean pattern). In order to obtain accurate mea-surements, avoid wearing clothing that is too tight or it willdistort your figure.
