Re: 2017 Vivid Sydney – road closures affecting city car parks

The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) has deemed car parks in road closure zones high risk during the 2017 Vivid

Sydney event.

Road Closures & Car Parks at Vivid Sydney

As per previous years, there will be extensive road closures, diversions and on-street fencing in the Sydney CBD

and The Rocks to help minimise traffic congestion, create pedestrian only spaces and significantly improve

safety for all those using the area.

Police and event Traffic Controllers will enforce road closure zones and no vehicles will be allowed to drive on

closed roads. As a result, road closures will affect access to and from the car park.

Motorists attempting to leave car parks when road closures are in place pose a significant risk to public safety. It

is the responsibility of the car park operator to manage this risk by ensuring compliance with road closures. It is

an offence to drive on closed roads, even from car parks and penalties may apply. Any car on a closed road will

be deemed ‘hostile’ by police and dealt with accordingly.

We are aware that there are a number of car parks that have been identified where a managed and escorted

system will be taking place and drivers are to abide by the directions of NSW Police and event Traffic

Controllers.

Please inform your customers about road closures

We seek your assistance to ensure traffic does not access closed roads to enter or to leave your car park.

Please check how your car park is affected and make your customers aware of these road closures.

A map with the scheduled road closures has been enclosed with this letter. Suggested text for a sign you may

wish to use is attached.

For the latest information on road closures and special event clearways go to vividsydney.com/transport

For more information, contact Asha Sweeting I Event Public Communications I ESPA I on

[email protected] or 0434 497 855

Thank you for your assistance and cooperation in making 2017 Vivid Sydney a great success.

Yours sincerely,

Gavin Dengate Detective Superintendent NSW Police Force
