Visual influences for my industrial revolution version of the tempestTRANSCRIPT
Visual Influences
Thorneywood station opened in 1886 but had only a 30 year life.I like the atmosphere I feel when I look at this image – I think it’s quite accurate
as to how I’d like the exterior to look in my interpretation.
A factory interior somewhere in Bulwell around 1910.
Again, I like the atmosphere this factory interior has to it. To me it looks like a textile factory.
An interior view of William Rigley’s Railway Wagon Works at Bulwell.
This image has such an industrial feel to it and portrays the reliance on machinery within factories.
I definitely like the look of this factory as a building. I think it would have strong set potential and is quite
inspiring.
This factory is minutes away from the last one and has a very similar feel toit as a building.
I think windows, chimneys and shape of the building is key to it being recognised as a factory.
This is a cotton mill established in the 1760’s
and situated in Goose Gate.
This building is obviously years older than the
others and much smaller in size, but still has that
factory/industrial feel to it.The brickwork and
arches stand out to me onthis building.
The massive industrial chimney in the backgroundof this photo stands out to me as a good indication of
the time period.
Bobbers Mill in Radford has less of an industrial feel to it, but again still has the big chimney which I
think I would definitely incorporate into my interpretation.
I absolutely love this image and it instantly gives me an idea that this was taken during the industrial revolution. The over sized machinery in the background and the workers in the foreground give me inspiration as to how I would interpret set and characters within ‘The Tempest’
Brith Gof – I have done a little research into this performance company. Visually, I love their style of set and the atmosphere it brings forward. I like the use of metal,Haze and scaffolding; I think it creates a very industrial look.
I would choose to situate my interpretation in the building of what used to be the ‘Great Northern Goods Warehouse’ just off the Nottingham train tracks.I think that this building would give the right kind of industrial atmosphere and feel to my interpretation that I’m looking for.
