Background

Visteon conducted a consumer research clinic in the US, Germany and France to

gather vehicle owners opinions of automotive technologies.

The following slides detail results from the V2X portion of the clinic.

V2X – Forward Collision Warning

Page 3

Description:

V2X continually transmits your vehicle’s speed and position to all other V2X-

equipped vehicles and infrastructure. If a vehicle in front of you suddenly slows

down or is traveling at a significantly lower speed, V2X knows it and sends an

alert to the driver and preloads the brakes preparing to slow down or stop.

Rating of Forward Collision Warning (Top 2)

US

Germany

France

Over two thirds of the respondents in the US and in Germany and nearly everyone in

France rate the Forward Collision Warning feature as positive.

Using a 5-point scale where 1 is “Very Negative” and 5 is “Very Positive”, how would you rate the Forward Collision Warning feature?

Why did you choose that rating?

V2X – Forward Collision Warning

• “its very safe and makes it easier to drive, comfort of

safety” - Nissan Rogue

• “if your in heavy traffic there are always people

stopping and starting so its safer because it alerts

you ahead of time” - Mazda 3

• “Feeling of not driving anymore, too much gradation”

– Ford Mondeo

• “Too much information distracts from traffic,

warnings can be confusing” – Ford Fiesta

• “too many alarms and too much distraction. takes

your mind off the road and you get too reliant on a

computer to do everything for you” - Cadillac CTS

• “I don’t like the idea of being followed / under

surveillance. What if the system breaks down or if

the others don’t have the same equipment?” – VW

Touran

• “Useless, it’s a discharge of our responsibility by the

technology” – Peugeot 306

• “All the things avoiding car accident is today’s

number one research that needs to be pointed up”-

Audi A3

• “Allows to have an additional security, an ease to

driving, a mean for a better anticipation…” – Citröen

C5

• “Top! I had an accident and if I’ve had it I would

have been warned. It’s a real asset” – Citröen DS5

problem to drivers down the road even suggesting an alternate route to avoid a

slippery situation.

V2X – Traffic Light Communication & Left Turn Assist

Description: V2X-enabled traffic signals communicate directly to your vehicle

detailing information such as color, time to next light change and the status of turn

arrows. A handy feature if a large truck obstructs your direct view of the signal.

V2X communication can also facilitate left turns because it lets you know when there

is enough clearance between on-coming vehicles to make the turn.
