Colin Brookes was born in Pittsburgh and began studying viola at age six. He studied in Pittsburgh with Carolyn Hills and Marylene Gingras-Roy. He is a winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society, Symphony North Concerto Competition, Music For Mount Lebanon Competition, and Tuesday Musical Club. In 2011 he received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School after studying with Heidi Castleman and Misha Amory. He has played in master classes and worked with such musicians as Gil Shaham, Sam Rhodes, Veda Kaplinsky, Steven Tenenbom, Ida Kavafian, Jutta Puchhammer, Hsin-Yun Huang, and the Tokyo String Quartet. Colin is currently in his first year of a Master in Music degree program studying with Ettore Causa.

Steven Chang began his studies at the age of six in his native Taiwan, where he served as concert-master of the Taitung Symphony Orchestra and garnered first prize in Taiwan’s Youth Violin Solo Competition at the age of ten. Steven earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn School Conservatory of Music, where he studied with violin professor Robert Lipsett. An avid chamber musician, Steven has performed on the kmzt-lacma Sunday Night Live Broadcast series and with renowned musicians such as Paul Coletti, Bonnie Hampton, and John Perry. Steven has soloed with both the Crossroads and the Colburn School orchestras and received scholarships and fellowships from organizations such as the California Confederation of Women’s Club, the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation, the Westside Committee of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. Steven currently attends the Yale School of Music under the tutelage of Syoko Aki, and expects to get his Master of Music degree in May 2013.

Oboist Hsuan-Fong Chen is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music, studying with Stephen Taylor. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School, studying with Nathan Hughes and Elaine Douvas. Chen has won prizes in several competitions, including first prize at the 2003 National Oboe Competition in Taiwan and second prize at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School’s concerto competition. She was a finalist in the Boston Symphony Orch-estra’s youth concerto competition and in the Assistant Principal audition of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Hsuan-Fong has been invited to summer festivals such as Boston Uni-versity Institute of Tanglewood, Aspen Music Festival, and Pacific Music Festival. She will be attending Spoleto USA Festival this summer. Chen is also an accomplished pianist. In addition to winning numerous piano competitions, she and her teacher Da-Ming Zu were featured in one of the National Palace Museum’s historical films. In 2005 she received first prize at the American Fine Arts Festival, which led to a solo performance in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She also won first prize in the Music Teacher’s National Association piano competition (MA) in 2005 and 2007.

Victor Fournelle-Blain is studying for his mas-ter’s degree at the Yale School of Music in Ani Kavafian’s studio. He has completed his Artist Diploma at the Montreal Conservatory in Johanne Arel’s studio, where he received Great Distinction for violin and chamber music. In 2011 he distinguished himself at the Prix d’Europe competition in Montreal, winning the John New-mark Prize as well as first prize in the strings category. In 2010 he won second prize in the OSM Standard Life competition and the Trois-Rivières Symphony Competition. Victor has also won several first prizes at the Canadian Music

Competition and in regional competitions. Victor has performed with the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra and twice with the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and has received grants from the McAbbie and Hnatyshyn foundations. A versatile artist, Victor also plays viola, is a very active chamber musician, and often per-forms new works by his colleagues.

Cellist Andrew Hayhurst is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music, studying with Aldo Parisot. He received bachelor’s degrees in performing arts technology and cello performance at the University of Michigan, where he was a student of Richard Aaron. He attended the University of Michigan on a full merit scholarship and graduated with highest honors. While at Michigan, he won the Santa Barbara’s Bland Foundation Scholarship Competition three years in a row. He also formed a piano trio that competed in national compe-titions, winning the Midwest and State Divisions of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. Prior to his collegiate studies, Mr. Hayhurst was a scholarship student at the Colburn School. Committed to outreach and community en-gagement, Mr. Hayhurst has organized and performed in a number of benefit chamber music concerts featuring professional musicians in the Los Angeles area.

Violinist Geoffrey Herd is currently an Artist Diploma candidate at the Yale School of Music, where he studies with Ani Kavafian. In May 2010 he received a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of William Preucil. Mr. Herd also received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2008 as a student of David Updegraff. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Herd has studied chamber music with members of

the Cleveland, Guarneri, Juilliard, Ying, Tokyo, and Cavani String Quartets. Mr. Herd has attended numerous prestigious music festivals including the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Encore School for Strings, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar, where he was Principal Second Violin. Devoted to educating the next generation of classical musicians, he was a teaching assistant to David Updegraff at the Cleveland Institute of Music from 2008 to 2010.

Canadian-born cellist Christopher Hwang be-gan his musical studies at the age of three. He has received numerous grants, scholarships, and first-place awards at various provincial and national competitions as both a soloist and a chamber musician. He was a member of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Orchestra, and has performed as a soloist with both groups. He also played with the National Youth Orchestra in 2004 and 2006. Christopher Hwang has attended many music festivals such as the Morningside Music Bridge; Banff Chamber, Masterclass and Orchestra residencies; and the Toronto Summer Music Academy and Festival. In addition to performing, he is an active teacher at the Yamaha School of Music in Canada. Hav-ing obtained his bachelor’s degree in music performance at the University of Toronto, he is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music under the tutelage of Aldo Parisot.

Nicholas Jones grew up in Buffalo, New York. He received a B.M. degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and an M.M. degree from Carnegie Mellon Univer-sity. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music in the studio of Donald Palma. As an orchestral musician, he

has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic. Additionally, he has studied at the National Orchestral Institute, Castleton Festival, and Chatauqua Music Festival.

Belarusian-born clarinetist Gleb Kanasevich has appeared as a soloist with the Belarus National Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony Orch-estra, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Chamber Orchestra, the Peabody Camerata, and the Lunar Ensemble, among others. Described as a “prodigy” and an “elegant and natural per-former” by the press, the 21-year-old has already collected an impressive list of prizes, including winning the Baltimore Symphony Young Solo-ists Competition, the Frederick Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and Peabody’s prestigious Yale Gordon Concerto Competition. He has appeared in the Baltimore/Washington area’s most prestigious concert series, including the Shriver Hall Concert Series, Washington Per-forming Arts Society, Music in the Great Hall, and Evolution Contemporary Music Series. Gleb’s dedication to performing 20th- and 21st-century repertoire has led him to participate in numerous premieres, including two concerti performed during the last year.

Jihyun Kim is a first-year student in violin at the Yale School of Music, where she studies with Hyo Kang.

Hye Jin Koh is a first-year student in violin at the Yale School of Music, where she studies with Syoko Aki.

Jessica Li is a first-year student in viola at the Yale School of Music, where she studies with Ettore Causa.

Shawn Moore is an American violinist and grad-uate of the Bard College Conservatory, where he also received a degree in Asian languages and literature, focusing on modern Chinese fiction. His principal violin teacher at Bard was Ida Kavafian. Born in Elgin, IL, he previously stud-ied with Cyrus Forough. At the Yale School of Music he studies with Ani Kavafian. Shawn has been an active performer throughout his under-graduate career. He was a guest soloist for the Bard Music Festival, performing a rarely-heard work by Charles Villiers Stanford with the American Symphony Orchestra, and has also soloed with the Kishwaukee and Knox-Galesburg orchestras. He performed the Beethoven con-certo and the Bruch G minor concerto with the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, and last semes-ter performed Astor Piazzolla’s Seasons with a student ensemble directed by composer Joan Tower. He has also been a guest artist for the Bard Music Festival of the Hamptons.

Pianist Esther Park has performed as a soloist with orchestras and in recitals across the United States, Asia, and Europe She has soloed with many orchestras such as the Houston Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, Poland, Filharmonia Pomorska, Shanghai Philharmonic, China, the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra at Aspen, Shreveport Symphony, the Juilliard Symphony, and the New Jersey Symphony. Ms. Park is the winner of the 2009 Prix Amadeo and the 2009 Chopin Gesellschaft Klavierwettbewerb. She was winner of the 2004 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition (at the Juilliard School) and the 52nd Kosciusko International Piano Competition.Born in Pusan, Korea in 1984, Ms. Park moved

to the United States in 1995, after being accepted to the Juilliard School’s pre-college division. Ms. Park has since received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, studying with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky. Ms. Park also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Hannover) under the tutelage of Bernd Goetzke, and is currently an Artist Diploma candidate at the Yale School of Music under the guidance of Boris Berman.

Holly Piccoli is a student in the Certificate in Performance program at the Yale School of Music, studying with Professor Syoko Aki. In July 2006, Holly received the Australian fellow-ship to the National Symphony Summer Music Institute (SMI). She successfully auditioned for the role of concertmaster of the National Symphony SMI Orchestra and performed the violin solo in Stravinsky’s La Pulcinella Suite in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Holly also performed Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and at the Australian Embassy. In 2007, Holly returned to Washington, DC to perform the Beethoven violin concerto with the Virginia Chamber Orch-estra under the direction of Luis Haza. In 2009 Holly was an Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist. Since 2009, at the invitation of the ACO players, Holly has worked in the Australian Chamber Orchestra on many of their National Subscription Tours, and in August 2010 toured with them on their Transatlantic Tour to the USA and Europe. In January 2011 Holly was invited by ACO2 to perform in Niseko, Japan, in a quartet of Emerging Artists and with ACO Artistic Director Richard Tognetti and the principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Emmanuel Pahud.

Edson Scheid earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009 from the Mozarteum University (Salzburg, Austria), where he studied with Igor Ozim, and his Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music in 2011. He is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at Yale, studying with Hyo Kang. Edson was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he became the first Brazilian violinist ever to record Paganini’s 24 Caprices for solo violin. He has given concerts in Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, the U.S., and South Korea. Recent performances include concerts at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, and at the Seoul Arts Center (as a member of the Sejong Soloists). In May 2011, he received the Broadus Erle Prize, awarded to outstanding violinists at the Yale School of Music.

Dutch cellist Jurrian van der Zanden studied with Jeroen den Herder and Elias Arizcuren at the Utrecht Conservatory, where he received his bachelor’s degree with distinction. He continued his studies in London, England with Leonid Gorokhov at the Guildhall School of Music. As a member of both Cello Octet Amsterdam and the New Holland Piano Trio, he has toured ex-tensively in Europe, South America, and the United States. In September of 2010 he moved to New Haven, Connecticut to study with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music. Jurrian plays a 1929 Max Moeller cello generously loaned to him by the Dutch National Instru-ment Foundation.
